What is the Chief Minister Sustainable Agriculture Irrigation Scheme farm pond component?

Chief Minister Sustainable Agriculture Irrigation Scheme: in Marathi Mukhyamantri Shashwat Krishi Sinchan Yojana; is a state scheme of the Maharashtra Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Department that subsidises on-farm irrigation assets. The individual farm pond component, popularly called "Magel Tyala Shettale"; literally "a farm pond for whoever asks for one", was brought into the scheme from 2022-23 and pays a farmer to dig a rainwater-storage pond on his or her own land.

The scheme addresses a specific problem. Large parts of Maharashtra are rainfed and get their rain in a few heavy spells. A farm pond captures that runoff and holds it, so the farmer can give one or two protective irrigations to a kharif crop during a dry spell, or grow a short rabi crop, instead of losing the season. The Agriculture Department therefore treats farm ponds as a drought-proofing asset rather than as a construction subsidy.

Main features

  • Subsidy of Rs 14,433 to Rs 75,000 per farmer, decided by pond size.
  • Pond sizes from 15 x 15 x 3 metres up to 34 x 34 x 3 metres.
  • Applications are taken only online on MahaDBT, the state's single farmer benefit portal.
  • Subsidy is paid by DBT through PFMS into the farmer's Aadhaar-linked account, credited centrally rather than by the district office.
  • Reimbursement model. The farmer builds first and is paid after measurement.

The Chief Minister Sustainable Agriculture Irrigation Scheme also carries other components on the same portal, including drip and sprinkler micro-irrigation with enhanced state top-up, pond lining, shade nets and greenhouses. The farm pond and the pond-lining subsidy are separate components and are applied for separately.

Farmers should also note that the state announced a restructured umbrella programme, Krishi Samruddhi Yojana, by a Government Resolution dated 22 July 2025, consolidating several agriculture department schemes with a stated outlay of about Rs 25,000 crore over five years. Farm pond applications continue to be filed through MahaDBT; check the component name shown on the portal in the year you apply, because the scheme label may have changed even though the benefit has not.

Who is eligible for the individual farm pond subsidy?

You can apply if:

  • You are a farmer resident in Maharashtra.
  • The agricultural land is recorded in your own name on the 7/12 extract.
  • Your holding meets the minimum area prescribed for the component. State information material on the individual farm pond cites 0.60 hectare; district agriculture offices apply the current year's guideline, so confirm locally before you spend money on the application.
  • The proposed site is technically suitable, the taluka agriculture officer or agriculture assistant certifies the location, slope and soil.
  • You have an Aadhaar number and an Aadhaar-seeded bank account.
  • You have a MahaDBT farmer profile with land records uploaded.

You cannot apply, or will be found not eligible, if:

  • You have already received a subsidy for a farm pond, community tank or bodi under any government scheme, including the earlier Magel Tyala Shettale rounds or the employment guarantee scheme.
  • The land is not in your name — a tenant, a licensee or a person cultivating someone else's field cannot claim the subsidy for that land.
  • The survey number is jointly held and the co-holders have not given written consent for the pond.
  • The site is forest land, or land under a dispute or acquisition notice.
  • You dig the pond before the pre-sanction order is issued. Work started ahead of sanction is not eligible for reimbursement.
  • The completed pond is smaller than 15 x 15 x 3 metres, or the excavated dimensions do not match the sanctioned size on measurement.

How much money does the farm pond scheme pay, and when?

Subsidy is fixed by pond size, not by what the farmer actually spent. The published range is a minimum of Rs 14,433 for the smallest permitted pond and a maximum of Rs 75,000 for the largest, with graded amounts in between. State reporting notes that the earlier ceiling of Rs 50,000 was raised by 50 per cent to Rs 75,000 when the component was brought under the Chief Minister Sustainable Agriculture Irrigation Scheme.

Payment sequence:

  1. Application submitted and shortlisted on MahaDBT.
  2. Pre-sanction (purva-sammati) order issued after document scrutiny and site inspection.
  3. Farmer digs the pond at his or her own cost within the period stated in the pre-sanction order.
  4. Farmer uploads completion documents and geo-tagged photographs.
  5. Agriculture department measures the pond and records the actual dimensions.
  6. Subsidy released by DBT through PFMS into the Aadhaar-linked account.

Because the model is reimbursement, a farmer needs working capital for the excavation. Digging first without a pre-sanction order is the most expensive mistake in this scheme, the money cannot be released retrospectively.

  2. Use a Common Service Centre (CSC) or Aaple Sarkar Seva Kendra if you do not have internet access. A government-notified service fee may apply for assisted filing.

How do I check my farm pond application status?

  1. Log in to the MahaDBT farmer portal with your username and password.
  2. Open My Applied Schemes or the application status page to see whether your application is submitted, selected, under verification, pre-sanctioned or paid.
  3. After selection, watch for the pre-sanction order, the countdown for completing the work starts from that order, not from the application date.
  4. After measurement, the payment status shows the DBT transaction. If it shows as paid but the money has not arrived, check Aadhaar-bank seeding at your branch.

Why do farm pond applications get rejected?

  • Old 7/12 extract; MahaDBT expects one issued within the last 6 months.
  • Land not in the applicant's name, or the survey number on the application not matching the 7/12.
  • Joint holding without co-holder consent.
  • Previous farm pond, bodi or community tank subsidy already drawn by the same farmer.
  • Site found unsuitable on inspection, wrong slope, rocky strata, or too close to a drainage line or structure.
  • Work started before pre-sanction, which makes the case ineligible.
  • Pond dug smaller than sanctioned, so measurement does not support the claimed slab.
  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, blocking the PFMS credit even after approval.
  • Time limit in the pre-sanction order missed, after which the sanction lapses and the farmer must apply afresh.

Where do I complain about a farm pond subsidy problem?

  • MahaDBT farmer helpline: 022-49150800
  • Grievance module inside the MahaDBT farmer login, which routes the complaint to the district superintending agriculture officer
  • Taluka Agriculture Officer for scrutiny, inspection and measurement disputes
  • District Superintending Agriculture Officer for delays in pre-sanction or payment

Applying on MahaDBT is done by the farmer directly and no middleman can promise selection. Do not share your MahaDBT password or Aadhaar OTP with anyone, including someone claiming to be an agriculture department official.

Frequently asked questions

How much subsidy does the individual farm pond scheme give?

The scheme gives a minimum of Rs 14,433 and a maximum of Rs 75,000 per farmer, with the exact amount fixed by the size of the farm pond actually dug. The maximum applies to the largest permitted size; smaller ponds get a proportionately smaller amount.

What sizes of farm pond are allowed?

Farm ponds from a minimum of 15 x 15 x 3 metres to a maximum of 34 x 34 x 3 metres are covered under the individual farm pond component. Anything smaller than the minimum size does not qualify for subsidy.

How do I apply for Magel Tyala Shettale?

Apply online on the MahaDBT farmer portal at mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in. Register with Aadhaar, complete the farmer profile with your 7/12 and 8-A, select the Chief Minister Sustainable Agriculture Irrigation Scheme and the individual farm pond component, and submit with the application fee.

How much land do I need to be eligible?

The farmer must own agricultural land in his or her own name and the land must be technically suitable for a pond. State information material on the individual farm pond component cites a minimum holding of 0.60 hectare; confirm the current figure for your district with the taluka agriculture officer before applying, since the minimum has been revised over time.

Can I get the subsidy if I already took a farm pond subsidy earlier?

No. A farmer who has already received a subsidy for a farm pond, a community tank or a bodi under any government scheme cannot claim the individual farm pond subsidy again.

Is the money paid before or after digging the pond?

After. The farmer must dig the pond at his or her own cost within the time allowed by the pre-sanction order; the subsidy is released only after the agriculture department measures the completed pond and verifies the geo-tagged photographs.

How are applicants selected when there are more applications than targets?

Applications are scrutinised by the taluka agriculture officer and beneficiaries have historically been picked by a computerised lottery from the eligible pool. From 2025-26 the state has moved several MahaDBT agriculture components to a first-come, first-served order of receipt, so check the selection method shown on the portal for the current year.

Who do I contact if my application is stuck?

Contact the MahaDBT farmer helpline on 022-49150800, or the taluka agriculture officer for your taluka, who is the scrutinising authority for farm pond applications. The MahaDBT portal also has a grievance module under the farmer login.
