AMRUT 2.0 is a Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs mission launched on 1 October 2021 with an outlay of Rs 2,99,000 crore, including a central share of Rs 76,760 crore, to deliver 2.68 crore household tap connections in all statutory towns and 2.64 crore sewer connections in 500 cities. Urban Local Bodies apply through State Mission Directorates.

DAY-NULM was the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs mission for urban livelihoods that concluded on 30 September 2024. Over its run it mobilised more than 1 crore urban poor women into 9.96 lakh self help groups, created 39.39 lakh livelihoods and spent Rs 5,733.10 crore in central assistance. New applications are no longer accepted.

PM SVANidhi is a Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs scheme that gives street vendors collateral-free working capital loans of Rs 15,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 in three tranches, with a 7% interest subsidy on timely repayment and up to Rs 1,600 digital cashback. Vendors apply free at pmsvanidhi.mohua.gov.in; lending runs until 31 March 2030.

PMAY-G is the Ministry of Rural Development's rural housing scheme that gives Rs 1.20 lakh unit assistance in plain areas and Rs 1.30 lakh in hilly and North Eastern areas to rural families without a pucca house. Beneficiaries are picked from the Awaas+ survey, not by walk-in application, and money reaches the Aadhaar-linked account through DBT.

PMAY-U is the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs mission launched on 25 June 2015 that delivered urban housing through 4 verticals, with central assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh per house under BLC and AHP and Rs 1 lakh under in-situ slum redevelopment. Sanctioning closed in 2022; new applicants must use PMAY-U 2.0.

PMAY-U 2.0 is the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs housing scheme approved on 9 August 2024 to help 1 crore urban families build, buy or rent a home. It gives Rs 2.50 lakh per unit under construction verticals and up to Rs 1.80 lakh home loan interest subsidy to EWS, LIG and MIG families earning up to Rs 9 lakh a year, applied for at pmay-urban.gov.in.

Smart Cities Mission is the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs programme launched on 25 June 2015 that funded urban infrastructure in 100 selected cities with a central outlay of Rs 48,000 crore, about Rs 500 crore per city. Cities competed for selection; citizens engage through TULIP internships, tenders and city SPVs rather than individual applications.

SBM-U 2.0 is the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs sanitation mission launched on 1 October 2021 with a Rs 1,41,600 crore outlay to make cities garbage free. Households get central assistance of Rs 4,000 per individual household toilet through their urban local body, and citizens report problems on the Swachhata app.

Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme was the PMAY-Urban home loan interest subsidy that gave EWS and LIG borrowers 6.5% interest subvention on loans up to Rs 6 lakh, worth about Rs 2.67 lakh upfront. CLSS closed to new applications on 31 March 2022 and is replaced by the Interest Subsidy Scheme under PMAY-U 2.0 at pmaymis.gov.in.

Affordable Housing in Partnership is the PMAY-Urban vertical under which states build flats with public or private partners and sell them to eligible urban families at a discount. Central assistance was Rs 1.5 lakh per EWS house under PMAY-U 1.0 and total government assistance is up to Rs 2.5 lakh per unit under PMAY-U 2.0. Apply at pmaymis.gov.in.

Beneficiary Led Construction is the PMAY-Urban vertical that pays an EWS family owning land in a town to build or enlarge its own pucca house. Central assistance was Rs 1.5 lakh per house under PMAY-U 1.0 and total government assistance is up to Rs 2.5 lakh per unit under PMAY-U 2.0, released in instalments. Apply at pmaymis.gov.in.

In-Situ Slum Redevelopment was the PMAY-Urban vertical that rehoused slum dwellers in pucca flats on the same land, using a slum rehabilitation grant of Rs 1 lakh per house and private developers funded by extra FSI or TDR. ISSR was not continued as a separate vertical in PMAY-U 2.0; slum residents now apply under BLC or AHP at pmaymis.gov.in.

The Health and Shelter component of Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) funds Senior Citizen Homes and services for poor elderly people aged 60 and above, providing shelter, food, medical care and recreation. Grants go to NGOs, PRIs and institutions running these homes, not to individuals directly. Senior citizens access the homes through the implementing organisations.

Affordable Rental Housing Complexes is a Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs sub-scheme of PMAY-Urban launched in July 2020 to give urban migrants and poor workers rented rooms near their workplace. ARHC units are single rooms up to 30 sqm, double rooms up to 60 sqm or dormitory beds, let for 25 years at government-fixed rent. Apply to the ARHC operator, not online.

Angikaar is a Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs outreach campaign under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban, first run from 2 October to 10 December 2019 and relaunched as Angikaar 2025 on 5 September 2025 under PMAY-U 2.0. It is a campaign, not a benefit, there is no cash grant and no application form. Households take part through their Urban Local Body.

Construction of Hostels for OBC Boys and Girls is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment that funds hostel buildings for Other Backward Class students. It pays up to Rs 3.50 lakh per seat plus Rs 2,500 for furniture. States, universities and NGOs apply with proposals, not individual students.

CLSS for Middle Income Group, under PMAY (Urban), gave home-loan borrowers earning Rs 6-18 lakh a year an upfront interest subsidy of 3-4% on loans up to Rs 9-12 lakh, worth about Rs 2.3-2.35 lakh. The MIG window closed to new applications on 31 March 2021 and no fresh applications are accepted.

The Deen Dayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS) provides grant-in-aid to registered NGOs and voluntary organisations to run rehabilitation projects for persons with disabilities; such as special schools, early intervention centres and half-way homes across 8 project models. Organisations registered for at least 2 years apply through the NGO Darpan and e-anudaan portals; it is not a direct citizen benefit.

This Ministry of Home Affairs scheme funds relief for Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in camps in Tamil Nadu; around 58,000 people across roughly 100 camps. It provides a monthly cash dole, subsidised essentials, shelter and amenities. There is no individual online application; assistance is given automatically to registered camp residents by the Tamil Nadu government.

Security Related Expenditure (SRE) is a Ministry of Home Affairs scheme, running since 1989-90, that reimburses States affected by insurgency and Left-Wing Extremism for security and relief costs on a 90:10 sharing basis. It funds ex-gratia to families of civilians killed, and rehabilitation of surrendered cadres. Individuals do not apply to the MHA; States disburse relief.

The Youth Hostel Scheme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports builds and runs youth hostels across India to give travelling youth, students and tourists clean, low-cost dormitory and room accommodation. Hostels are jointly funded by the Centre and the state, which provides the land, and are open to travellers for short stays booked directly with the hostel.
