What is Khel Mahakumbh?

Khel Mahakumbh is the annual mass sports competition of the Government of Gujarat, administered by the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) under the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department. Khel Mahakumbh works on two objectives that the Sports Authority of Gujarat states openly. The first is mass participation. Which sports are part of Khel Mahakumbh?

The official Games page of the Khel Mahakumbh portal lists archery, artistic skating, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, karate, kho-kho, lawn tennis, malkham, roll ball, rugby, shooting, shooting ball, skating, soft tennis, sport climbing, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tug of war, volleyball, weight lifting, wrestling, yogasan, beach handball, beach volleyball, sepak takraw and woodball.

That list matters for two reasons. It shows Khel Mahakumbh is not limited to track and field, and it shows a rural competitor with no access to a swimming pool still has kabaddi, kho-kho, malkham, tug of war and wrestling available in the same competition, at the same age brackets, with the same route to the state final.

Who can take part in Khel Mahakumbh?

You can take part if:

• You are a resident of Gujarat and enter from the district you live or study in.
• Your age places you in one of the notified categories. The 2025 state-level circulars list Under-11, Under-14, Under-17, Open Age, Above-40 and Above-60 brackets, though the exact set of categories varies by sport.
• You can produce age proof that matches the category you enter. Age fraud is the single thing that gets a competitor removed at reporting.
• You register within the dates announced in that year's circular.

You cannot take part if:

• You are not resident in Gujarat, since Khel Mahakumbh is a state competition.
• Your age falls outside every category notified for your sport. Not every sport offers every bracket, so read the sport-wise circular rather than assuming.
• You cannot produce documentary age proof at reporting, or your documents contradict each other.
• You missed the registration window for that year. Late entries are not taken at the venue.
• You are entering a second time in a different district or a different age group for the same sport in the same year.

What documents do you need for Khel Mahakumbh?

Carry the originals to the venue. District organisers check age proof against the registration record before the first round, and a mismatch removes the entry on the spot.

How to register for Khel Mahakumbh

1. Open the official portal at khelmahakumbh.gujarat.gov.in and choose the Login / Registration option for participants.
2. Create your account with your own mobile number, then complete your profile with name, date of birth, district and address exactly as they appear on your age proof.
3. Select the sport and age category you want to enter, checking the sport-wise circular on the portal so you pick the right bracket.
4. Upload your photograph and age proof, then submit the entry and save or print the confirmation.
5. If you are entering through a school or college, ask your institution to register you from its school or college login, which the portal provides separately and which also covers the art competitions.
6. Watch the district calendar on the portal for your taluka and district round dates, and report at the venue with your original documents at the time given in the circular.

How to register offline

1. Download the Khel Mahakumbh registration form from the portal. It is published in both English and Gujarati — or collect a printed copy from the District Sports Officer.
2. Fill it in, attach copies of your age proof and Aadhaar, and paste a photograph.
3. Submit the form at the District Sports Office or through your school's physical education teacher before the closing date in the circular.
4. Collect an acknowledgement, and confirm your name appears in the district entry list before the event day.

When does Khel Mahakumbh take place?

Khel Mahakumbh runs on an annual cycle. Registration typically opens ahead of the competition season and is announced by circular, the Khel Mahakumbh 2025 registration form was published on the portal on 29 August 2025. Taluka and district rounds follow, and the state-level finals are held sport by sport under the 61 separate circulars issued for that edition. Because each discipline has its own venue and date, the only reliable calendar is the sport-wise circular on the portal, not a single state-wide date.

How do I check my entry, schedule and results?

Log in to khelmahakumbh.gujarat.gov.in with the mobile number you registered and open your participant dashboard, which shows the sport, category and district you are entered in. The portal's Calendar section carries competition details and the Circular State Level section carries the sport-wise PDF circulars with venue, reporting time and rules. Why entries get rejected at Khel Mahakumbh

• Age proof does not match the category entered. The commonest reason, and the one organisers check hardest.
• Registration incomplete, with the photograph or age document missing.
• Entry made after the closing date in the sport's circular.
• Duplicate entry in two districts or two age groups for the same sport.
• Failure to report at the venue at the time stated in the circular.
• Sport not offered in that age bracket in the district concerned.

Fixing most of these means correcting the profile on the portal before the closing date, so register early rather than on the last day.

What do winners get?

Khel Mahakumbh winners receive cash prizes and certificates, with amounts notified each year in the sport-wise circulars rather than fixed permanently. Beyond the prize, the more durable benefit is selection: the Sports Authority of Gujarat uses Khel Mahakumbh performance to pick athletes for specialised coaching, equipment support and its wider training structure, which includes around six vacation camps a year for school children and the department's centre-of-excellence and district-level sports school schemes. The Sports Authority of Gujarat records that Gujarat players won 302 national-level medals in 2016-17, and Khel Mahakumbh is the base of the pipeline that produces those athletes.
