What is Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana?

Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana is an income-support scheme of the Government of Maharashtra, run by the Agriculture Department through the Commissionerate of Agriculture at Pune. The scheme; commonly written in Marathi as Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana and often shortened to NSMNY, pays Rs 6,000 per year to farmer families in the state, in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each.

Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana was set up by a Government Resolution dated 15 June 2023, and the first instalment reached farmers on 26 October 2023. The design is deliberately simple: instead of building a fresh beneficiary list, Maharashtra pays a state top-up to every farmer already validated under the central PM-KISAN scheme. A farmer who receives Rs 6,000 from PM-KISAN therefore receives another Rs 6,000 from the state, taking the combined annual income support to Rs 12,000.

Main features

  • 100 per cent state-funded scheme, with no central share.
  • Benefit is paid per farmer family, not per adult.
  • Payment reaches the beneficiary through Direct Benefit Transfer into an Aadhaar-seeded bank account.
  • Beneficiary identification is copied from the PM-KISAN database for Maharashtra, so there is no parallel enrolment drive.
  • The scheme portal is nsmny.mahait.org, operated by the Commissionerate of Agriculture.

Who is eligible for Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana?

You can get the benefit if:

  • You are a permanent resident of Maharashtra and cultivate land in the state.
  • You are an active PM-KISAN beneficiary whose name appears in the PM-KISAN Maharashtra database.
  • Your family owns cultivable land recorded in your name in the 7/12 extract and 8-A register.
  • Your Aadhaar-based e-KYC under PM-KISAN is complete.
  • Your bank account is Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped so that DBT can reach it.

You cannot apply or are not eligible if:

  • You are not enrolled in PM-KISAN, or your PM-KISAN record has been suspended or rejected. The state scheme cannot pay a farmer the centre has not validated.
  • You are a tenant farmer, sharecropper or agricultural labourer with no land in your own name.
  • Your land is held by an institution, trust or society rather than a farming family.
  • You are a serving or retired government employee of the central or state government, a PSU or an autonomous body: Group D and Class IV staff are exempted from this exclusion.
  • You are a pensioner drawing Rs 10,000 or more a month, again excluding Group D and Class IV retirees.
  • You paid income tax in the last assessment year.
  • You hold or have held a constitutional post, minister, MP, MLA, mayor or zilla parishad chairperson.
  • You are a practising professional such as a doctor, engineer, lawyer, chartered accountant or architect registered with a professional body.

These exclusions are inherited directly from PM-KISAN, because eligibility for Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana is decided by the PM-KISAN record.

What documents are required?

Document Mandatory Notes
Aadhaar card Yes Must be seeded to the bank account; e-KYC must be complete
PM-KISAN registration number Yes The link between you and the state top-up
7/12 extract and 8-A Yes Maharashtra land record showing cultivable land in your name
Bank passbook Yes Account must be Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped
Mobile number No Needed for OTP e-KYC and payment SMS

There is no separate document submission for Namo Shetkari. The same papers you gave for PM-KISAN registration carry over.

How to apply for Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana

Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana has no application form of its own. What you actually do is make sure your PM-KISAN record for Maharashtra is complete and clean, because the state payment is generated from it.

  1. Register under PM-KISAN if you are not already enrolled. Go to pmkisan.gov.in, open Farmers Corner and select New Farmer Registration, then enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number and state, and verify with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
  2. Fill in the details — personal details, Maharashtra district, taluka and village, bank account number and IFSC, and your land survey or gat number with the area of holding from your 7/12 extract.
  3. Complete Aadhaar e-KYC, either by OTP on pmkisan.gov.in, by face authentication in the PM-KISAN mobile app, or biometrically at a Common Service Centre.
  4. Get your land record seeded. The talathi and tehsil office verify the 7/12 and 8-A entries and mark land seeding as complete. This is done by the revenue department, not by you.
  5. Seed and NPCI-map your bank account with Aadhaar at your bank branch, so the DBT credit does not bounce.
  6. Check that you appear on the NSMNY side by opening nsmny.mahait.org and running Beneficiary Status with your Aadhaar or registration number.

Farmers without internet access can complete steps 1 to 3 offline at a Common Service Centre, or through the village Krishi Sahayak or taluka Agriculture Officer, who maintain the local PM-KISAN and NSMNY beneficiary lists.

How much does the scheme pay and when?

Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana pays Rs 2,000 per instalment, three times a year, totalling Rs 6,000. Instalments broadly follow the PM-KISAN calendar of April–July, August–November and December–March, and Maharashtra has usually released its instalment shortly after the corresponding central one.

The first instalment was released on 26 October 2023. Instalments have been released in the years since across the whole verified beneficiary base, which state releases have put at roughly 84 lakh to 91 lakh farmer families. The exact release date of each future instalment is announced by the state government and is not fixed in advance, so it is worth checking nsmny.mahait.org rather than relying on a rumoured date.

Payment is made only into the beneficiary's own Aadhaar-seeded account. Cash, cheque and third-party accounts are not used.

How to check your Namo Shetkari status

  1. Open the official portal nsmny.mahait.org.
  2. Select Beneficiary Status from the home page.
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number, registered mobile number or PM-KISAN registration number and submit.
  4. Read the instalment-wise table. A credited instalment shows a success entry; a failed one shows an error code.

The portal publishes a reference list of banking error codes. The recurring ones are account closed, account frozen, invalid or wrong account number, account type not valid for DBT, KYC not done at the bank, and dormant or inoperative account. Each of these is fixed at your bank branch, not at the agriculture office: take your Aadhaar and passbook and ask the branch to re-activate the account and complete Aadhaar seeding with NPCI mapping.

Why Namo Shetkari payments get rejected, and how to fix each one

  • PM-KISAN e-KYC pending. Complete it by OTP on pmkisan.gov.in or biometrically at a CSC. Until it is done, neither the central nor the state instalment is released.
  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded. Visit the branch with Aadhaar and the passbook and ask for Aadhaar seeding plus NPCI mapping. A joint or minor account often fails DBT.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar and the bank record. Get one of the two corrected so the spellings match exactly.
  • Land seeding not done. Follow up with the talathi and the taluka Agriculture Officer to have the 7/12 and 8-A entries verified. Repeating e-KYC will not fix a land-seeding failure.
  • Exclusion triggered, an income tax return filed, or a government salary or pension detected. This ends eligibility for both PM-KISAN and Namo Shetkari.
  • Duplicate claim by a second adult in the same family. Only one member can hold the benefit.

Farmers who received instalments and were later found ineligible are treated as having taken an ineligible payment, and the amount is recoverable.

Where to complain or get help

  • NSMNY and PM-KISAN state helpline: 020-25538755, at the Commissionerate of Agriculture, Kaveri Hall, sixth floor, DTC Centre, near Mhatre Bridge, Erandawane, Pune 411004.
  • Email: pmkisan-mh@gov.in for state-level PM-KISAN and NSMNY grievances.
  • Taluka Agriculture Officer or the village Krishi Sahayak for land seeding and beneficiary-list corrections.
  • District Collector or Zilla Parishad agriculture section where a taluka office does not resolve the matter.
  • For central-side problems such as e-KYC and PM-KISAN status, use the PM-KISAN helpline 155261 and the helpdesk form on pmkisan.gov.in.

Enrolment and status checks are free. No middleman can charge a fee for adding a name to the Namo Shetkari list, and no officer will ask for your OTP, ATM PIN or bank password.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to apply separately for Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana?

No. Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana uses the PM-KISAN beneficiary database for Maharashtra, so any farmer who is an active PM-KISAN beneficiary in the state is enrolled automatically. There is no separate registration form and no separate portal login for new farmers.

How much money does Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana pay?

Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana pays Rs 6,000 per year in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each. Because it is paid on top of PM-KISAN's Rs 6,000, an eligible Maharashtra farmer family receives Rs 12,000 a year in total.

When did Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana start?

Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana was formalised by a Government Resolution dated 15 June 2023, and the first instalment was released on 26 October 2023. The state has released instalments broadly in step with the PM-KISAN cycle since then.

How do I check my Namo Shetkari payment status?

Open nsmny.mahait.org and use the Beneficiary Status option, entering your Aadhaar number, registered mobile number or PM-KISAN registration number. The screen shows instalment-wise credit status and, where a payment failed, an error code explaining why.

Why has my Namo Shetkari instalment not been credited?

The most common causes are incomplete PM-KISAN e-KYC, a bank account that is not Aadhaar-seeded or NPCI-mapped, an account that is closed, frozen or dormant, and land records not yet verified by the talathi. The NSMNY portal publishes an error-code list that names the exact banking reason for a failed credit.

Can a tenant farmer or landless labourer get Namo Shetkari money?

No. Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana follows PM-KISAN eligibility, so the cultivable land must be recorded in the applicant's own name. Tenant farmers, sharecroppers and agricultural labourers who do not own land are not eligible.

Can both husband and wife receive Namo Shetkari separately?

No. The benefit is paid once per farmer family, defined under PM-KISAN as husband, wife and minor children. Duplicate claims within the same family are flagged and payment is suspended pending verification.

Is there any fee to get enrolled in Namo Shetkari?

No. Enrolment is free and automatic for PM-KISAN beneficiaries in Maharashtra. No agent can charge you to add your name, and no government officer will ask for your OTP or bank password.
