What is the Rajarshri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship?

Rajarshri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship is a merit scholarship of the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, Government of Maharashtra, for Scheduled Caste students studying in class 11 and class 12. Who is eligible for the Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship?

You can apply if:

• You are an Indian national and a domiciled resident of Maharashtra.
• You belong to a Scheduled Caste and hold a valid caste certificate issued by a competent authority in Maharashtra.
• You scored more than 75 per cent in the class 10 examination.
• You are currently studying in class 11 or class 12 in a recognised junior college or higher secondary school.
• You hold an Aadhaar-seeded bank account in your own name for the DBT credit.
• You can complete a MahaDBT student profile and have it verified by your institute.

You cannot apply if:

• You do not belong to a Scheduled Caste. Students of other categories are not eligible for this scholarship and should look at their corresponding department schemes on MahaDBT.
• You scored 75 per cent or less in class 10, the merit condition is a hard cut-off.
• You are not domiciled in Maharashtra, even if you are studying in the state.
• You are studying below class 11 or above class 12. Degree, diploma and professional students fall under separate post-matric schemes.
• Your caste certificate is invalid, expired in format, or issued outside Maharashtra.

How to apply for the scholarship on MahaDBT

1. Open the MahaDBT portal at mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in and choose the Post-Matric Scholarship login, then New Applicant Registration.
2. Register with your Aadhaar number and mobile number, verify the OTP, and create your username and password.
3. Complete the student profile in full — personal details, domicile, caste, parent details, address, class 10 marks and current course. The profile has to be finished and saved before any scheme becomes selectable.
4. Upload the caste certificate, domicile certificate, class 10 marksheet, Aadhaar and bank passbook in the document section.
5. Open All Schemes, find Rajarshri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship, and select Apply.

5. Once the status reads disbursed, check your Aadhaar-linked bank account for the DBT credit.

Why applications get rejected, and how to fix them

• Class 10 percentage at or below 75 per cent. There is no relaxation on the merit condition for this particular scholarship.
• Caste certificate not uploaded, or issued outside Maharashtra. Obtain a fresh certificate through the Setu or Aaple Sarkar service centre.
• Incomplete MahaDBT profile. The portal allows a partial profile to be saved but will not let a partially profiled student be sanctioned.
• Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT credit bounces. Ask your bank branch to seed Aadhaar with NPCI mapping.
• Account in a parent's name. The scholarship is credited to the student.
• Name mismatch between Aadhaar, the class 10 marksheet and the bank account. Correct the weakest of the three before the next window.
• Institute verification never completed. This is the most common invisible failure, chase the college, not the department.

When does the application window open?

The Social Justice and Special Assistance Department does not publish a permanent fixed last date for this scholarship. MahaDBT opens a fresh post-matric application window for each academic year, generally after class 11 and class 12 admissions are complete, and the window is extended more than once in most years.
