Why does a Vay Vandana Card application fail?

The Ayushman Vay Vandana Card is decided purely by age, so most failures are not about eligibility at all, they are about Aadhaar recording the wrong age, biometric authentication failing on elderly fingerprints, or the request sitting unapproved. Aadhaar shows an age below 70

This is the defining failure for this card. The system reads the date of birth in Aadhaar, not a birth certificate you produce at the counter. If Aadhaar records an age below 70 to or only a year of birth that the system interprets as later, the senior-citizen category will not open for you.

• Fix: Correct the date of birth at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra before applying. Once Aadhaar reflects 70 or above, the 70-plus category appears automatically on search.

Fingerprint authentication fails

Worn fingerprints are common at 70-plus and frequently defeat biometric e-KYC.

You are below 70

The Vay Vandana route is strictly age-gated. A 68-year-old is not eligible under this category, however low the income. The household may still qualify under the regular PM-JAY deprivation or occupational criteria, search under those rather than the senior route.

You are enrolled in CGHS, ECHS or Ayushman CAPF

According to the National Health Authority, senior citizens already availing CGHS, ECHS or Ayushman CAPF must choose between their existing scheme and AB PM-JAY. They cannot hold both. If you keep the existing scheme, a Vay Vandana application will not add a parallel entitlement. Note that private health insurance and ESIC membership do not disqualify you; those can be held alongside the card.

Your state has not implemented PM-JAY

Residents of a state or union territory that has not implemented PM-JAY; West Bengal, for example, cannot obtain the card there, since the card is issued through the PM-JAY system.

Do not confuse it with a pension

Some applicants expect a monthly payment. The Vay Vandana Card is health cover only and pays no cash. If you were looking for a monthly amount, this is the wrong scheme, not a rejection.
