What is Educational Assistance to the 10th to 12th Students?

Educational Assistance to the 10th to 12th Students is an education benefit of the Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, the statutory board constituted by the Labour Department, Government of Maharashtra under the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996. Every slab in that table is limited to the first two children of a registered worker. The purpose is blunt and practical: class 10 and class 12 are the two years in which the child of a daily-wage construction worker is most likely to drop out, because board exam fees, tuition, guides and travel land in the same year that the household is most tempted to send the teenager to the site instead.

Who is eligible for the 10th to 12th education assistance?

You can claim if:

• You are a construction worker registered with the Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and your card is live and renewed.
• You met the board's registration conditions, aged 18 to 60, with at least 90 days of construction work in the preceding 12 months.
• The student is your own child, and is the first or second child in birth order.
• The child is studying in class 10, class 11 or class 12 in the year claimed.
• The child has scored 50 per cent or more in the relevant examination.
• The child is studying in a recognised school or junior college that can issue a bonafide certificate and a fee receipt.

You are not eligible if:

• You are not registered with the board, or your registration lapsed and was not renewed for the academic year claimed.
• You are a contractor, site engineer, supervisor or employer rather than a manual construction worker.
• The student is your third or later child. The two-child ceiling applies regardless of household income.
• The student scored below 50 per cent.
• The student failed or repeated the year without a fresh qualifying result.
• The student is not in classes 10 to 12. A class 9 student falls under the Rs 5,000 slab instead, and a first-year degree student under the Rs 20,000 slab.
• You are registered with a different Maharashtra welfare board, such as a Mathadi board, whose benefits are administered separately.

There is no income test beyond the fact of being a registered construction worker, and no caste or category restriction. The benefit is open to registered workers of every community.

What documents are required?

The two documents that decide most files are the marksheet and the bonafide certificate. One proves the 50 per cent condition, the other proves the child was actually enrolled in the claim year. Collect the bonafide certificate at the start of the academic year rather than at the end, when school offices are shut for exams.

How to apply for the education assistance in Maharashtra

1. Check that the parent's registration is live on mahabocw.in using the worker login. If it has lapsed, complete the online renewal, pay the renewal fee and finish verification at the Worker Facilitation Centre first.
2. Collect the student's marksheet, bonafide certificate and fee receipt for the class being claimed. Verify the marksheet actually shows 50 per cent or more before you file.
3. Download the educational welfare claim form from the welfare schemes section of mahabocw.in, or collect a printed form from your district Worker Facilitation Centre.
4. Fill in your registration number, the child's details, the class and the percentage scored, and your bank account number exactly as printed in the passbook.
5. Attach all mandatory documents and submit at the Worker Facilitation Centre or to the Government Labour Officer of the district, and take a dated acknowledgement.
6. Track the file with the acknowledgement number at the same centre, or call the board helpdesk on 1800-8892-816 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

How to register with the board if you have not already

1. Open mahabocw.in, go to the Workers menu and choose Worker Registration.
2. Enter district, Aadhaar number and mobile number, and verify by OTP.
3. Complete Form V with personal, family and employment details, naming your children — this is what later establishes birth order for the two-child limit.
4. Upload age proof, residence proof, identity proof, three passport photographs and a 90-day work certificate from your employer, contractor, site engineer or the local authority.
5. Complete verification at the Worker Facilitation Centre and collect the card.

Register the names of your children correctly at this stage. Adding a child later is possible but slows every education claim that follows.

How to check the status of an education claim

1. Open mahabocw.in and sign in to the worker profile login.
2. Open the claim or application status section and enter your registration number or application number.
3. Use the renewal status tab separately to confirm your card is still live. A dead card silently blocks pending claims.
4. If the portal shows nothing, take the acknowledgement receipt back to the Worker Facilitation Centre where you filed it.

Why education claims get rejected, and how to fix them

• Registration lapsed. Renew annually; this is the single most common cause.
• Marks below 50 per cent. There is no discretion here for the 10 to 12 slab.
• No bonafide certificate, so enrolment in the claim year is unproven.
• Third child claimed. The two-child ceiling is applied on birth order as recorded in Form V.
• Child's name not on the worker's registration record. Get the family details updated at the Worker Facilitation Centre before filing.
• Name mismatch between the marksheet, Aadhaar and the labour card. Correct the weakest document first; usually the school record.
• Bank account not in the registered worker's name, so DBT validation fails.
• Duplicate claim for the same child and same academic year.

Key dates to plan around

The board does not publish a fixed closing date for education claims, they are accepted through the year. In practice the useful calendar is the academic one: Maharashtra State Board results for class 10 and class 12 are declared around May and June, and the sensible time to file is immediately after the marksheet is issued and the next year's fee receipt is in hand. Filing late in the financial year risks the claim slipping into the next sanction cycle.
