What is the Stipend Scheme for Poultry Farming Training for Scheduled Caste?

The Stipend Scheme for Poultry Farming Training for Scheduled Caste is a training support scheme of the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, under the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation Department of the Government of Gujarat.

The scheme's stated aim is to raise the income of Scheduled Caste poultry farmers through scientific poultry farming training. It does not give birds, sheds or equipment. What it gives is a short structured course in how to run poultry properly, and enough money that attending the course does not cost the trainee a day's wages.

What the trainee receives

• A stipend of up to Rs 2,000, credited directly to the trainee's bank account. The build-up is Rs 300 a day for six days, which is Rs 1,800, plus Rs 200 towards transport fare.
• A poultry training certificate on completion of the course.

Both halves matter, and the certificate arguably matters more than the money. Gujarat's separate Subsidy Scheme on Establishment of 25 R.I.R. Birds' Unit for Weaker Section, a 75 percent subsidy capped at Rs 4,500 on a backyard unit of 25 Rhode Island Red birds; makes prior poultry-keeping training a condition of receiving the unit. This training is the standard route to satisfying that condition. A trainee who does both ends up with a certificate, Rs 2,000 in hand and a subsidised flock.

The scale of poultry training in Gujarat

The Directorate of Animal Husbandry reports having trained 6,555 farmers in poultry techniques, and runs the training through its network of 2 regional and 9 district poultry breeding farms. Training is delivered alongside institutions such as the Extension Education Institute at Anand, which conducted 225 training sessions in 2025-26. So this is not a paper scheme: there is real teaching infrastructure behind it.

Who is eligible for the poultry training stipend in Gujarat?

You can apply if:

• You are an adult member of a Scheduled Caste community.
• You are resident in Gujarat and can prove it.
• You can produce a Scheduled Caste caste certificate from the competent revenue authority.
• You can produce an income certificate, which the scheme conditions require.
• You have a bank account in your own name that can receive a Direct Benefit Transfer.

Priority in selection goes to women applicants and to Below Poverty Line households. Training batches have fixed seat numbers, so where more people apply than there are seats, these two filters decide the list.

You are not eligible and cannot apply if:

• You are not from a Scheduled Caste. Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Class applicants are outside this particular scheme, though the Directorate runs parallel training components under the Tribal Area Sub Plan and other sub-plans.
• You are a minor.
• You are not resident in Gujarat.
• You cannot produce a caste certificate or an income certificate.
• You have no bank account in your own name. The stipend is not paid in cash, and it is not paid into somebody else's account.
• You have already taken this training and drawn the stipend. It is a one-time benefit against one training completion.

How to apply for the poultry farming training stipend

The application is filed online on the i-Khedut portal, Gujarat's single window for agriculture and animal husbandry scheme applications. Follow these steps.

1. Get the caste certificate and income certificate ready first. Both are mandatory attachments. A caste certificate in a different spelling of your name from your Aadhaar is the commonest cause of trouble later, so check the two against each other now.
2. Open the i-Khedut animal husbandry application page. Go to https://ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in and navigate to the animal husbandry scheme application section, then find the poultry training stipend component.
3. Click "Apply New" and fill the application. Enter your details exactly as they appear on Aadhaar, including your bank account number and IFSC.
4. Confirm the application within seven days. i-Khedut treats an unconfirmed application as incomplete, and it lapses after seven days. This is the single most common way applications are lost on the portal.
5. Print the confirmed application. Take a printout of the confirmed form and sign it.
6. Upload the scanned documents. Each document must be a PDF of no more than 200 KB. Compress scans before uploading. A phone photograph will usually be far too large.
7. Submit the signed printout with the supporting documents to the office indicated on the confirmation, and keep a copy along with the application number.

Once selected, you will be called for the six-day training. Attend all six days, the stipend is calculated per day of attendance, and the certificate is issued only on completion.

What documents are needed?

• Scheduled Caste caste certificate, the eligibility document for the scheme.
• Aadhaar card or Voter ID, identity.
• Income certificate; required under the scheme conditions.
• Residence proof — ration card, electricity bill or Talati certificate.
• Bank passbook first page or cancelled cheque, for the Direct Benefit Transfer of the stipend.
• Below Poverty Line card, where held, for priority in selection.
• Barcoded ration card, where held, as household and residence proof.
• Disability certificate, only where the applicant claims consideration as a person with a disability.

All uploads must be PDFs under 200 KB each.

How do I check the status of the application?

i-Khedut carries an application status option that works on the application number issued when the form is confirmed. Enter the number to see whether the application is confirmed, under scrutiny, selected for a batch, or rejected.

Once you have attended the training, the stipend moves as a Direct Benefit Transfer. If the portal shows the stipend as released but your passbook shows nothing, the problem is almost always the bank details entered at application, a wrong IFSC, a dormant account, or a mismatch between the account name and Aadhaar. Correct the details with the office that received your printout, and the payment can be re-triggered.

Why do poultry training stipend applications get rejected?

• Application not confirmed within seven days. i-Khedut lapses it, and many applicants never realise their form was never actually filed.
• Uploads over 200 KB or in a format other than PDF, so the document set reads as incomplete.
• Missing income certificate. Applicants often assume the caste certificate alone is enough. It is not.
• Caste certificate name mismatch against Aadhaar or the bank account.
• Wrong or dormant bank account. The sanction may stand while the payment fails.
• Batch full. Where seats are exhausted and priority applicants have filled them, the application is not sanctioned in that round.
• Signed printout never submitted. The online form alone does not complete the application; the signed hard copy with documents has to reach the office.

Reapplication is permitted after 30 days, so a rejection is not the end of the road. Use the 30 days to fix the specific defect rather than resubmitting the same file.

What are the key dates?

There is no single statewide last date. i-Khedut opens scheme components in windows during the financial year, which runs 1 April to 31 March, and each window stays open for a limited period against the year's physical target. That means the answer to "when can I apply" is genuinely "when the window is open"; check the i-Khedut home page, which lists the components currently accepting applications, and apply the day you see the poultry component listed rather than waiting.

The seven-day confirmation deadline after starting an application is the other date that matters, and it is the one applicants most often miss.

Where do I complain if something goes wrong?

For portal problems. The form not confirming, uploads failing, status not updating; approach the office named on your application confirmation, or the district animal husbandry office, with your application number.

For scheme decisions; not being selected, the stipend not being released after attending the training: escalate to the Regional Joint Director of Animal Husbandry for your region, and then to the Directorate of Animal Husbandry, Gujarat, whose office addresses and regional contacts are published at https://doah.gujarat.gov.in under the Contact section.

The Directorate does not publish a dedicated toll-free helpline for this scheme. Use the published district or regional office contact rather than a number given by an agent. No fee is payable to apply for this training or to receive the stipend.
