Niradhar Sahayog Scheme (Karnataka Destitute Assistance) — What Is Actually Available
Karnataka state government scheme
Niradhar Sahayog is a name that circulates online for a Rs 1,200 monthly destitute pension in Karnataka, but no Government of Karnataka order under that title could be verified. Destitute persons in Karnataka are actually supported through the Directorate of Social Security and Pensions, whose schemes include Manaswini at Rs 800 a month and Mythri at Rs 1,200 a month.
Is there a Niradhar Sahayog Scheme in Karnataka?
Niradhar Sahayog is a name that circulates on private scheme-listing websites, usually attached to a claim of a Rs 1,200 monthly pension for destitute, homeless or abandoned adults in Karnataka. On checking, no Government of Karnataka order, no departmental page and no official portal listing under that title could be verified. The Directorate of Social Security and Pensions, which is the office that would run such a pension, publishes its schemes at dssp.karnataka.gov.in and does not list one called Niradhar Sahayog.
This page therefore does two things. First, it states plainly that the name is unverified, so that nobody pays an agent or hands over Aadhaar and bank details to a website "registering" them for a scheme that has no official existence. Second, it sets out what Karnataka genuinely provides to a destitute adult, because the support does exist. It simply carries different names.
The word niradhara in Kannada means destitute or without support, and it appears in ordinary administrative language and in the general description of Karnataka's pension schemes. That is very likely the origin of the circulating name. A general description is not a scheme title, and the distinction matters when you walk into a taluk office and ask for something by name.
What Karnataka actually pays a destitute person
Karnataka's destitute support runs through the Directorate of Social Security and Pensions under the Revenue Department, as a set of targeted monthly pensions rather than one blanket destitution allowance. Two of them are verified directly on the directorate's own pages:
- Manaswini; Rs 800 per month for unmarried and divorced women aged 40 to 64 who are below the poverty line. Created by Government Order RD 95 DSP 2013 with effect from 1 August 2013, Manaswini is explicitly aimed at women who have no husband's income and no claim to a widow pension, which is precisely the destitution gap the circulating "Niradhar" claim describes.
- Mythri: Rs 1,200 per month for transgender and gender-minority persons aged 25 to 64. Created by Government Order RD 94 DSP 2013 dated 1 August 2013, Mythri covers hijras, kothis, jogappas and other transgender persons, and the amount was raised to Rs 1,200 from an earlier Rs 800.
Alongside these, the directorate administers Karnataka's old age pension route including Sandhya Suraksha, the widow pension, and the disability allowance. Each has its own age band, its own status document and its own sanction file, but all of them run through the same counter and the same sanctioning authority.
Who can and cannot get a Karnataka destitute pension
You can be sanctioned a pension if:
- Your annual family income is below Rs 32,000, the ceiling the directorate applies in both rural and urban areas for its targeted pensions.
- You fall inside the age band of the specific scheme to 40 to 64 for Manaswini, 25 to 64 for Mythri, and the separate bands set for old age, widow and disability pensions.
- You reside in Karnataka, in the taluk where you file the application.
- You hold a bank or post office account in your own name.
- You can produce the status document the scheme asks for, for Manaswini a self-declared affidavit of unmarried or divorced status, for Mythri a certificate from a recognised transgender community organisation.
You are not eligible if:
- You are already drawing another state pension, old age, widow, disability or any similar allowance. Karnataka's schemes exclude a second pension outright, and the Aadhaar number makes duplicate claims easy to detect.
- Your annual family income is Rs 32,000 or more.
- You fall outside the age band of every scheme, for example a 30-year-old destitute woman who is neither transgender, nor a widow, nor disabled, a real gap in the current scheme design that a name like "Niradhar Sahayog" implies has been filled but has not been.
- You are not a Karnataka resident.
The last point is the honest limitation of this page. Karnataka does not have a single universal destitution pension covering every adult with no means of support. It has a set of category-based pensions, and an applicant has to find the category they fit.
How to apply for a Karnataka social security pension
- Identify which pension you actually qualify for — Manaswini, Mythri, the old age pension, the widow pension or the disability allowance. Ask at the taluk office rather than guessing; the wrong scheme means a rejection rather than a redirection.
- Get your income proof. Use your BPL ration card, or apply to the Tahsildar's office for an income certificate showing annual family income below Rs 32,000.
- Collect the status document for your scheme, the self-declared affidavit for Manaswini, the community certificate for Mythri, a death certificate for a widow pension, a disability certificate for the disability allowance.
- Open or confirm a bank or post office account in your own name and get it Aadhaar-seeded, since the pension is credited there.
- Submit the application at the Atalji Janasnehi Kendra (Nadakacheri) in your taluk, with the Aadhaar card, address proof, age proof, income proof, status document, passbook copy and a photograph.
- Keep the acknowledgement and follow up with the Tahsildar's office, which is the sanctioning authority, if you hear nothing within the stated service timeline.
Pension services are also listed on Karnataka's Seva Sindhu portal, and the taluk counter remains the practical route for a first-time applicant who needs help assembling documents.
Why applications get rejected
- An existing pension in the applicant's name under another scheme.
- Income certificate above Rs 32,000 a year.
- Age outside the scheme's band, which no discretion can override.
- Missing status document, the affidavit, community certificate or disability certificate the specific scheme requires.
- Bank account not in the applicant's own name, or not Aadhaar-seeded, which blocks credit even after sanction.
- Applying by a scheme name the office does not recognise, which is exactly the risk with "Niradhar Sahayog".
A warning about unofficial scheme names
If a website invites you to "apply online for Niradhar Sahayog", asks for a registration fee, or asks for your Aadhaar number and bank details to secure the pension, stop. No official Karnataka portal offers that. Karnataka's pensions are applied for in person at a taluk counter, no fee beyond a small notified service charge is payable, and no official will ask you for an OTP.
A second, quieter risk is the wasted trip. A destitute applicant who travels to a taluk office and asks for "Niradhar Sahayog" will be told no such scheme exists, and many people take that as a refusal of help rather than a naming problem, and never return. Carry this page's list of real scheme names instead, and ask specifically which of them your age, income and status fit.
Where to go for help
- Atalji Janasnehi Kendra (Nadakacheri) in your taluk, applications and status enquiries.
- Tahsildar's office. The sanctioning authority for social security pensions.
- Assistant Commissioner of the sub-division and Deputy Commissioner of the district, the escalation route for delays and rejections.
- Directorate of Social Security and Pensions, dssp.karnataka.gov.in. The authoritative list of Karnataka's pension schemes, their amounts and their conditions.
If a Karnataka government order under the name Niradhar Sahayog is issued or surfaces later, this page will be updated to reflect it. Until then, apply under the scheme that matches your circumstances, and use its real name at the counter.
How to check your application status
Because none of Karnataka's real destitute-support pensions, Manaswini, Mythri, old age, widow or disability, run on a dedicated "Niradhar Sahayog" portal, there is no separate tracking page to search for. Status enquiry for all of them goes through the same three routes used for every Nadakacheri pension application.
- Use your acknowledgement receipt first. When you submit at the Atalji Janasnehi Kendra (Nadakacheri), you are given a receipt with an application or acknowledgement number. This is the only reference the counter staff or the Tahsildar's office can look your file up by, so keep it rather than relying on memory of the submission date.
- Check through Seva Sindhu. Karnataka's pension services, including the old age, widow and disability pensions administered by the same directorate, are listed on the state's Seva Sindhu portal alongside other citizen services. Where an application was filed or registered through Seva Sindhu, the same portal lets you look up its status using the application number from your receipt, rather than requiring a fresh visit for every enquiry.
- Ask in person at the Nadakacheri counter where you filed, if the application was taken entirely offline. Staff can check whether the file has moved to the Tahsildar for sanction, is pending a document, or has been forwarded for verification.
- Escalate to the Tahsildar's office if the stated service timeline has passed with no update. The Tahsildar is the sanctioning authority for these pensions, so a stalled file usually sits there rather than at the Nadakacheri front counter.
- Go to the Assistant Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner only if the Tahsildar's office gives no resolution. This is the formal escalation layer for delayed or unexplained rejections, above the sanctioning authority itself.
There is no SMS or helpline-based status check published for these pensions, so the acknowledgement number and an in-person or Seva Sindhu follow-up remain the only reliable ways to confirm where an application stands.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a Karnataka scheme called Niradhar Sahayog?
No Government of Karnataka order or official portal page under the name Niradhar Sahayog could be verified. The name appears on private scheme aggregator websites quoting a Rs 1,200 monthly destitute pension, but the Directorate of Social Security and Pensions does not publish a scheme by that title. Treat the name as unofficial.
What does Karnataka actually give a destitute person every month?
Karnataka delivers support to destitute adults through targeted pensions of the Directorate of Social Security and Pensions, including Manaswini at Rs 800 a month for unmarried and divorced women aged 40 to 64, and Mythri at Rs 1,200 a month for transgender persons aged 25 to 64. Old age, widow and disability pensions cover other groups.
What is the income limit for Karnataka's social security pensions?
Annual family income must be below Rs 32,000 for the targeted pensions such as Manaswini and Mythri, and the directorate applies the same Rs 32,000 ceiling in rural and urban areas alike.
Can I draw two Karnataka pensions at once?
No. Karnataka's pension schemes explicitly exclude anyone already receiving another state pension such as the old age pension, widow pension or disability allowance. One social security pension is payable per person.
Where do I apply for a destitute pension in Karnataka?
Apply at the Atalji Janasnehi Kendra, commonly called the Nadakacheri, in the taluk where you live. The Tahsildar is the sanctioning authority, and pension services are also listed on Karnataka's Seva Sindhu portal.
Is there any fee to apply for a Karnataka pension?
No government application fee is charged. A small notified service charge may apply at a citizen service counter, and no agent can charge you for getting a pension sanctioned.
What should I do if a website asks me to register for Niradhar Sahayog?
Do not pay and do not share your Aadhaar or bank details. No official Karnataka portal offers registration under that name. Apply for the pension you actually qualify for at your taluk Atalji Janasnehi Kendra instead.
