National Career Service (NCS) Registration
National Career Service (NCS) registration creates a free jobseeker account on ncs.gov.in, the Ministry of Labour and Employment's employment portal, using an Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, passport, driving licence or EPFO UAN number. More than 6.02 crore jobseekers had registered since inception. Registration completes in minutes with a mobile OTP and costs nothing at any stage.

What is the National Career Service (NCS)?
National Career Service (NCS) is the Government of India's employment portal, run by the Directorate General of Employment in the Ministry of Labour and Employment at ncs.gov.in. NCS replaced the paper-based employment exchange model with a single national platform where jobseekers create a profile, employers post vacancies, and the system matches the two.
According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, more than 6.02 crore jobseekers and more than 54.27 lakh employers had registered on NCS since its inception, as reported for the position in November 2025. Within FY 2025-26 alone, more than 78.86 lakh jobseekers and 12.36 lakh employers registered, and more than 3.43 crore vacancies were mobilised on the portal.
NCS is a service platform, not a benefit scheme. Registration gives you an account and a searchable profile. It does not entitle you to a job, an allowance or a reservation, and no seniority claim arises from the date of registration on the central portal.
What an NCS account actually gets you
- Search and apply to domestic vacancies from private employers, government bodies and PSUs.
- Access to international job listings connected to the eMigrate system for overseas employment.
- Dedicated job categories for healthcare workers, differently-abled candidates, ex-servicemen and women, and re-employment listings for senior citizens.
- Free career counselling, vocational guidance and a list of empanelled skill-training providers.
- An AI resume builder and interview coaching tools for candidates with no existing CV.
- Notification of job fairs and rozgar melas held online and in your district.
- In-person help at Model Career Centres to 407 have been approved across the country, as well as at state employment exchanges and Common Service Centres.
Who can register on NCS?
You can register if:
- You are an Indian jobseeker of working age holding at least one of the accepted identity numbers; Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, passport, driving licence or EPFO UAN.
- You are a student or fresher with no work history. NCS has no minimum qualification bar and lists vacancies from unskilled work upward.
- You are already employed and looking for a change. NCS does not require you to be unemployed.
- You are an ex-serviceman, a person with a disability, or a senior citizen seeking re-employment, each has a dedicated listing category.
- You are an employer, a placement organisation, a skill provider, a counsellor or a local service provider. Each registers under its own user type, not as a jobseeker.
You cannot register, or should not, if:
- You do not hold any of the six accepted identity numbers. Registration cannot proceed without one, so obtain a PAN, Voter ID or Aadhaar first.
- You have no working mobile number in your own possession. The OTP step cannot be bypassed, and registering on someone else's number means you will never receive interview alerts.
- You are trying to register a second account because you forgot the first one's password. Duplicate profiles against the same ID are rejected, use the password recovery route instead.
There is no income ceiling, no caste criterion, no domicile requirement and no age cut-off for creating an NCS jobseeker account. Individual vacancies carry their own eligibility conditions set by the employer, which are separate from portal registration.
What documents are required for NCS registration?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| One ID number: Aadhaar / PAN / Voter ID / passport / driving licence / EPFO UAN | Yes | You pick the type at the first screen; Aadhaar is verified with UIDAI |
| Active mobile number | Yes | Registration completes only after OTP verification |
| Email address | Yes | Login credentials and job alerts go here |
| Educational certificates | No | Details are typed into the profile, not uploaded at signup |
| Resume / CV | No | Optional upload; NCS provides a resume builder instead |
| Disability certificate | No | Only for the differently-abled jobseeker category |
| Ex-servicemen discharge book | No | Only for the ex-servicemen category |
How to apply for NCS registration online
- Open the official portal at www.ncs.gov.in and check the address bar. Several look-alike private sites sell "NCS registration" services that the Ministry does not authorise.
- Click Register and choose the user type Jobseeker. Employers, counsellors and skill providers have separate registration paths.
- Select your ID type, Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, passport, driving licence or EPFO UAN — and enter the corresponding number. An Aadhaar number is verified against UIDAI records at this step.
- Enter your active mobile number and email address, then submit. NCS sends an OTP to the registered mobile number.
- Enter the OTP to verify the number and set your username and password. Keep both safe; account recovery relies on the same mobile and email.
- Complete your jobseeker profile: personal details, educational qualifications, skills, work experience, preferred job roles and preferred work locations. Employers filter on exactly these fields, so a half-filled profile is rarely shortlisted.
- Optionally upload a resume or generate one with the portal's resume builder, and add certifications and languages.
- Search vacancies from your dashboard and apply directly. Track each application's status from the same dashboard.
How to register for NCS offline
- Visit your nearest Model Career Centre or state employment exchange. The Ministry has approved 407 Model Career Centres across the country to deliver employment services in person.
- Carry your chosen identity document and your mobile phone, the OTP is sent to your number, not the centre's.
- Ask the counsellor to complete the jobseeker registration on the NCS portal on your behalf and to enter your qualifications and job preferences.
- Note down the username and password created for you, and change the password yourself at the first login.
- You can also use a Common Service Centre (CSC), which offers assisted NCS registration. A CSC may charge only the small government-notified service fee for assisted digital services: nothing for NCS itself.
Is NCS registration free?
Yes. The NCS portal states plainly that its services are free of cost and that NCS does not charge any fee at any stage of registration, job application, interview processing or other employment-related services.
Two consumer-protection points follow from that, and both matter:
- No agent, cyber café or consultancy may charge you for NCS registration. The whole process takes a few minutes on ncs.gov.in and needs no document upload. Anyone charging a "registration fee", "portal fee" or "verification fee" is charging for something the government provides free.
- You should never pay an employer. The NCS portal warns jobseekers not to pay fees to employers and to verify job information only through www.ncs.gov.in. Demands for a security deposit, a training fee or a "placement guarantee" payment are the standard shape of a recruitment scam.
The portal also asks users to report entities falsely claiming an NCS affiliation. If a website, WhatsApp group or Telegram channel uses the NCS name and asks for money, report it to support.ncs@gov.in.
How to check your NCS profile and application status
- Log in at ncs.gov.in with the username and password you created.
- Open your dashboard, which shows profile completeness, recommended vacancies and the list of jobs you have applied to.
- Open My Applications to see the status of each application; submitted, viewed by the employer, shortlisted, or closed.
- Update your job preferences and locations whenever they change. Matching is driven by these fields, so a stale preference list means fewer recommendations.
Registration itself is instant, the account exists as soon as the OTP is verified. There is no approval queue and no processing time for the account. The waiting is entirely on the employer side, and response times vary by employer.
Why NCS registrations and applications fail, and how to fix it
- OTP does not arrive. Check that the mobile number was typed correctly, that the handset has network, and that the number is not on a DND setting blocking transactional SMS. Retry after a few minutes rather than starting a fresh registration.
- "User already exists" error. You or someone assisting you registered this ID before. Use forgot-password recovery on the registered mobile or email instead of creating a duplicate.
- Aadhaar verification fails. The name or number does not match UIDAI records. Correct the Aadhaar record first, or register using a different accepted ID such as PAN or Voter ID.
- No employer response. The most common cause is an incomplete profile. Fill in qualifications, skills, experience and preferred locations, and add a resume. Employers search on these fields.
- Vacancies shown are far from your city. Set your preferred work locations precisely; a blank preference field returns nationwide results.
- Email alerts never arrive. Check the spam folder for messages from noreply-ncs@gov.in and add the address to your contacts.
Help and grievance redressal
- NCS toll-free helpline: 1514
- Email support: support.ncs@gov.in
- In person: any Model Career Centre, state employment exchange or Common Service Centre
- Official portal only: www.ncs.gov.in. The portal itself warns against relying on any other site for NCS information
Keep in mind what NCS can and cannot resolve. The helpline can fix account, login, profile and portal problems. It cannot compel an employer to shortlist you, cannot verify an employer's internal hiring decision, and cannot recover money you paid to a private agent. That last point is the strongest argument for never paying anyone for a process the Ministry of Labour and Employment provides free.
Who is eligible
NCS registration has no eligibility test in the sense of income, caste or age limits. The checklist below is about whether you can actually complete the registration and use the account, not whether you "qualify" for a benefit.
You can register as a jobseeker if you have:
- One of the six accepted identity numbers: Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, passport, driving licence or EPFO UAN.
- A mobile number that is in your own possession right now, since the OTP arrives on it during the same session.
- An email address you can access, since login recovery and interview alerts go there.
- Any level of education or none at all. NCS lists vacancies from unskilled roles to postgraduate-level roles, so there is no minimum qualification to create the account itself.
- Current employment status of any kind: employed, unemployed, a first-time jobseeker, or a student close to graduating.
You register under a special category only if it applies to you, and only after basic registration:
- Persons with disabilities who want to appear in the differently-abled jobseeker category need a disability certificate on hand to enter the details.
- Ex-servicemen who want the dedicated ex-servicemen listing category need their discharge book details.
- Senior citizens seeking re-employment use the same jobseeker registration; there is no separate senior-citizen account type, only a preference flag in the profile.
You should not attempt registration, or it will fail, if:
- You hold none of the six accepted ID numbers. There is no fallback path; get a PAN or Voter ID first, since these are quicker to obtain than a passport or Aadhaar in most cases.
- You plan to use a mobile number that belongs to a relative, agent or cyber café operator. You will pass the OTP step but then never receive interview or shortlisting alerts on your own phone.
- You already hold an NCS jobseeker account under the same ID number and have simply forgotten the password. The system treats a second attempt as a duplicate, not a fresh case.
- You are trying to register as both a jobseeker and an employer using the same login. The two are separate user types with separate registration flows on ncs.gov.in.
Not eligibility conditions, even though people assume they are:
- Domicile or state of residence: NCS is a national portal, and a jobseeker registered from one state can apply to vacancies posted anywhere in the country.
- Prior employment exchange registration: you do not need an old employment exchange number to register on NCS; the two systems are linked administratively in some states but not as a precondition for a new account.
- Employer sponsorship: no employer, consultancy or training provider needs to refer or approve you before you can create a jobseeker profile.
Common reasons for rejection
NCS does not "reject" an application in the way a subsidy scheme rejects a form, there is no sanctioning authority reviewing your registration. What actually happens instead is that the registration step fails to complete, or the account exists but never produces interview calls. Both are worth separating.
Reasons the registration step itself fails:
- ID number fails format or checksum validation. Aadhaar, PAN and Voter ID numbers each follow a fixed format, and a single mistyped digit is rejected at the field level before submission. Re-check the number against the physical document character by character rather than retyping from memory.
- Aadhaar name mismatch with UIDAI records. If your Aadhaar carries a different spelling, a maiden name, or an outdated address, verification fails silently at this step. The fix is to correct the Aadhaar record through UIDAI first, or register with PAN or Voter ID instead while the Aadhaar correction is pending.
- Mobile number already tied to an existing NCS profile. The system links one mobile number to one jobseeker account; if that number was used for a profile you or someone else created earlier and forgot about, the new registration is blocked. Use the forgot-password or forgot-username recovery flow on that same number rather than trying a workaround.
- OTP session times out. The OTP window is short. Filling in a long profile before entering the OTP, or waiting to check messages later, expires the code and the registration form resets. Keep the phone next to you and complete ID entry through OTP verification in one sitting.
- Selecting the wrong user type at the start. Someone hiring, not job-hunting, who accidentally registers as a Jobseeker ends up with a profile that cannot post vacancies. There is no in-portal conversion between user types; you must register again under the correct type.
Reasons the account exists but produces no results, which functions as a rejection from the jobseeker's point of view:
- Incomplete profile fields. Employers filter candidate search by qualification, skills, experience and location. A profile with these fields left blank is invisible to that filter even though the account is fully active. This is the single most common cause of "I registered but nothing happened."
- Overly broad or blank location preference. Leaving the preferred work location field empty returns nationwide matches that are not actually relevant to you and buries genuinely local vacancies further down the list; leaving it too narrow to one town excludes nearby districts that would have matched.
- No resume and no filled-in work history. Some employers search only among profiles with an attached resume. The built-in resume builder takes a few minutes and removes this gap even if you have no formatted CV of your own.
- Category certificate not entered for a special listing. A candidate who wants the differently-abled or ex-servicemen category shown against their profile but never entered the certificate details in that section stays in the general pool only, not a rejection of the main account but a miss on the category-specific listing.
None of the above is fixed by re-registering from scratch. Correcting the specific field, or the underlying document mismatch, and updating the existing profile carries forward all your prior applications, whereas a duplicate account starts that history over.

Frequently asked questions
Is NCS registration free?
Yes, completely free. The NCS portal states that its services carry no fee at any stage of registration, job application, interview processing or other employment services, and jobseekers should never pay a fee to an employer either.
What documents do I need to register on NCS?
You need one identity number — Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, passport, driving licence or EPFO UAN — plus an active mobile number for the OTP and an email address. No document upload is required to complete basic registration.
Is Aadhaar mandatory for NCS registration?
No. Aadhaar is one of several accepted ID types; PAN, Voter ID, passport, driving licence and EPFO UAN are equally valid. If you do choose Aadhaar, the number is verified against UIDAI records.
Is NCS registration the same as employment exchange registration?
NCS is the digital successor to the old employment exchange system and is run by the same Directorate General of Employment. Many state employment exchanges now register candidates on NCS directly, but some states still maintain a separate seniority register, so check with your state exchange if you need a seniority date.
Does registering on NCS guarantee a job?
No. NCS is a matching platform that connects jobseekers to employers who post vacancies; it does not appoint anyone or reserve any post. More than 3.43 crore vacancies were mobilised on the portal during FY 2025-26, but selection is entirely the employer's decision.
How do I get help if my NCS registration fails?
Call the NCS toll-free helpline 1514 or email support.ncs@gov.in with your registration attempt details. You can also walk into a Model Career Centre — 407 have been approved across the country — for in-person help.
Can employers register on NCS too?
Yes. Employers register separately on ncs.gov.in to post vacancies and search candidate profiles, and more than 54.27 lakh employers had registered since inception. Employer registration is also free.
Can I use NCS to find jobs abroad?
Yes, NCS carries an international jobs section linked to the eMigrate system for overseas employment, alongside domestic private and government vacancies. Always verify an overseas recruiter through eMigrate before paying anyone.
What should I do if someone asks for money to register me on NCS?
Refuse and report it. NCS charges nothing at any stage, and the portal explicitly warns jobseekers to verify information only through www.ncs.gov.in and to report entities falsely claiming an NCS affiliation.
