Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana
Rajasthan state government scheme
Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana is a Rajasthan state maternity nutrition scheme that pays Rs 6,000 to a woman on the birth of her second child, released in five instalments of Rs 1,000, Rs 1,000, Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000. Registration is done free through the Anganwadi worker or ANM at the local health centre.
What is Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana?
Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana (locally written and searched as Indira Gandhi Matra Poshan Yojana, or IGMPY) is a Rajasthan state maternity benefit scheme run by the Women and Child Development Department of the Government of Rajasthan in coordination with the Medical, Health and Family Welfare Department. The scheme was launched on 19 November 2020 and pays Rs 6,000 in cash to an eligible woman around the birth of her second child.
Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana was created to close a specific gap. The central Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana was, at the time of the Rajasthan scheme's launch, aimed at the first living child. A woman carrying her second child received no comparable cash support, even though the second pregnancy often comes with a shorter recovery gap, less rest and worse nutrition than the first. Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana attaches money to the second pregnancy and ties each rupee to a health action the mother and child need anyway; antenatal check-ups, a hospital delivery, and full immunisation.
The scheme began as a pilot in a group of tribal and low-indicator districts and was then extended across the state. Rajasthan's Women and Child Development Department is the nodal department; the field work: registration, verification and milestone entry, is done by Anganwadi workers, ASHAs and ANMs, and the records live on the state's Pregnancy, Child Tracking and Health Services (PCTS) system.
Key features
- State-funded scheme, entirely from the Rajasthan budget.
- Benefit of Rs 6,000, paid in five instalments rather than a lump sum.
- Every instalment is conditional on a verified health milestone.
- Payment goes by Direct Benefit Transfer into the mother's own account.
- Registration is done by a frontline worker, not by the applicant online.
Who is eligible for Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana?
You can get the benefit if:
- You are a permanent resident of Rajasthan with a Jan Aadhaar (or older Bhamashah) card.
- You are pregnant with, or have delivered, your second child.
- Your pregnancy began on or after the cut-off notified for the scheme: official material specifies conception on or after 1 April 2022 for the statewide phase.
- You are registered for antenatal care at an Anganwadi Centre, sub-centre or government health facility.
- You hold a bank account in your own name that is seeded with your Aadhaar.
You cannot apply / are not eligible if:
- You are pregnant with your first child. That pregnancy is covered by the central Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, not by this scheme.
- You are pregnant with a third or later child. Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana stops at the second child.
- You are not a permanent resident of Rajasthan, or have no Jan Aadhaar record in the state.
- Your conception date falls before the notified start date for your district's phase of the scheme.
- You have no bank account of your own, a husband's account or a joint account where you are not the primary holder will not receive the DBT.
There is no separate caste restriction and no separate income ceiling published for the scheme. Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana is targeted by birth order and residence rather than by income category, which is unusual among Rajasthan welfare schemes and worth knowing, because families sometimes assume wrongly that a BPL card is required.
How much does Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana pay, and when?
Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana pays Rs 6,000 in five stages. Each stage is released only after a health worker records the corresponding milestone.
| Instalment | Amount | Released when |
|---|---|---|
| First | Rs 1,000 | Pregnancy registered at the Anganwadi Centre or sub-centre and the first antenatal check-up done, generally within 120 days of conception |
| Second | Rs 1,000 | Second antenatal check-up completed, around the sixth month |
| Third | Rs 1,000 | Delivery at a government or empanelled hospital, recorded with the discharge slip |
| Fourth | Rs 2,000 | Key immunisation doses given to the newborn within about 105 days of birth, and birth registration done |
| Fifth | Rs 1,000 | Final post-delivery stage — measles vaccination and the child's weight recorded around the ninth month, and the family planning condition met |
The largest single instalment is the fourth, at Rs 2,000, deliberately placed at the immunisation stage. Money moves by DBT, usually within a few weeks of the milestone being entered on PCTS, not on the day the milestone happens.

How to apply for Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana
- Register the pregnancy early. Visit your Anganwadi Centre, sub-centre or primary health centre as soon as the pregnancy is confirmed, and ask the Anganwadi worker, ASHA or ANM to register you under Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana. Registering within the first 120 days protects the first instalment.
- Hand over the documents. Give copies of the Jan Aadhaar card, your Aadhaar card, your own bank passbook and the Mamta card. Ask the worker to confirm on the spot that this is your second child in the record, because a wrong birth-order entry is the single most common cause of rejection.
- Let the worker make the PCTS entry. The ANM or Anganwadi worker enters your details into the state's PCTS system. Ask for the registration or tracking number and write it on your Mamta card.
- Complete each health milestone and get it recorded. Attend both antenatal check-ups, deliver at a government or empanelled facility, and complete the child's immunisation on schedule. After each one, check that the entry has been made. An unrecorded milestone means an unreleased instalment.
- Confirm each credit in your passbook. Update your passbook or check the SMS after every stage. If an amount has not arrived four to six weeks after the milestone, raise it with the ANM first and then with the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of your block.
There is no citizen-facing online form. Any website that asks you to pay to "apply online for IGMPY" is not an official channel.
How to check the status of your Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana payment
- Ask your ANM or Anganwadi worker to open your record on the PCTS system and show which milestones are marked complete.
- Update your bank passbook at the branch or a passbook printer. The DBT credit appears with a state government narration.
- If a milestone is complete on PCTS but no money has arrived, ask the ANM to check whether the Aadhaar seeding of your account has failed.
- Escalate to the Child Development Project Officer at the block office, or the District Programme Officer of the Women and Child Development Department.
Why Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana payments get rejected
- Wrong birth order recorded, the child is entered as first or third rather than second.
- Bank account not in the mother's name, or not Aadhaar-seeded.
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar, Jan Aadhaar and the bank record.
- Delivery at a non-empanelled private hospital, which breaks the third instalment condition.
- Milestone not entered on PCTS even though the check-up or vaccination actually happened.
- Late registration past the window for the first instalment, which can forfeit that stage while leaving the later ones intact.
Most of these are fixable. A name mismatch is corrected by updating the Jan Aadhaar record at an e-Mitra kiosk and re-seeding the bank account. An unentered milestone is corrected by the ANM at the sub-centre.

Frequently asked questions
How much money does Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana give?
Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana gives Rs 6,000 in total, paid in five instalments of Rs 1,000, Rs 1,000, Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000. Each instalment is released only after the linked health milestone — registration and first check-up, second check-up, institutional delivery, the child's immunisation, and the final post-delivery stage — has been recorded by the health worker.
Is Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana only for the second child?
Yes. Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana is designed specifically for the second child. The first child is covered by the central Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana instead, and the Rajasthan scheme was created to fill the gap for the second pregnancy, which no scheme covered earlier.
Who cannot get Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana?
Women who are pregnant with their first child, women pregnant with a third or later child, and women who are not permanent residents of Rajasthan are not eligible. Women whose pregnancy began before the scheme's cut-off date for their district's roll-out phase also fall outside the scheme.
Where do I apply for Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana?
Apply through your Anganwadi worker, ASHA or ANM at the nearest Anganwadi Centre, sub-centre or primary health centre. There is no self-service online form for citizens — the health worker records your details on the state's PCTS (Pregnancy, Child Tracking and Health Services) system, and the payments flow from there.
Does the money come to the mother or the husband?
The money is credited only to the mother's own Aadhaar-seeded bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer. Accounts in the husband's name, or joint accounts where the mother is not the primary holder, are a common reason for a failed transfer.
Why has an instalment of Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana not arrived?
The most common reasons are that the health milestone for that instalment has not been entered by the ANM, the bank account is not Aadhaar-seeded, the Jan Aadhaar record does not match the Aadhaar name, or the delivery was at a non-empanelled private hospital. Ask the ANM to show you the PCTS entry for your case before assuming the payment was refused.
Is there any fee to register for Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana?
No. Registration and all five instalments are free. No Anganwadi worker, ASHA, ANM or agent may charge a fee, and none of them needs your bank OTP.
