SPARSH: Why Pension Requests Get Rejected or Stuck, and How to Fix Them
This is a supporting guide for SPARSH — System for Pension Administration (Raksha). See the main guide for full eligibility, benefits and documents.
Why a SPARSH request stalls, and the fix for each
On SPARSH, the Ministry of Defence's System for Pension Administration (Raksha). A "rejection" is rarely a final no. It is usually a request that cannot be processed because a detail does not match, a certificate was not accepted, or a step was skipped. Because SPARSH pays pension directly to your bank account with no bank in between, the fix almost always lives inside your SPARSH profile or a service request. This article works through the common causes and the exact route to clear each one. The SPARSH pillar covers what the system is and how to register; the one-line reminder is that SPARSH serves Army, Navy, Air Force and Defence Civilian pensioners whose accounts have been migrated, using the PPO number as the User ID.
Cause 1: Cannot log in / no password received
The commonest wall is login itself. Credentials are sent by SMS to the mobile number recorded in your pension record, so if that number is wrong or outdated, no password arrives.
Fix: This cannot be corrected online. Take your PPO and ID to an authorised SPARSH service centre (a Common Service Centre, bank branch or India Post Payments Bank branch. These serve SPARSH free of cost), or call the helpline 1800-180-5325, to update the mobile number. Once corrected, retry with your PPO number as User ID. If you have logged in before but forgot the password, use Forgot Password with Aadhaar OTP.
Cause 2: Annual identification (Life Certificate) not accepted
Annual identification is a statutory requirement, and pension credit stops until it is completed and accepted. A Digital Life Certificate can be rejected when the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is inactive, the biometric/face authentication fails, or your name or date of birth in SPARSH does not match Aadhaar.
Fix:
- Confirm your Aadhaar-linked mobile is active, then retry the Digital Life Certificate (DLC) using Aadhaar biometric or face authentication (SPARSH is integrated with Jeevan Pramaan).
- If a name/DOB mismatch blocks the DLC, either raise a service request to correct the SPARSH record, or submit a Manual Life Certificate (MLC) — a signed certificate scanned and uploaded, for that year.
- Use View Status in the Identification tab to confirm the certificate was accepted, then, if credit was stopped, file a service request to restart it.
Cause 3: Pension not credited despite everything looking done
Two causes dominate a stopped credit: annual identification not completed, and an incorrect or dormant bank account in the profile.
Fix: Check the Identification status first. If that is clear, open your profile and verify the bank account number and IFSC; a closed, frozen or mistyped account will bounce the credit. Raise a service request to correct the bank details: do not approach the bank to "release" the pension, because under SPARSH the bank has no role in computing or sanctioning it.
Cause 4: Wrong pension amount or missing arrears
An incorrect amount usually traces to incomplete Personal Data Verification (PDV) or a pending corrigendum to your pension entitlement, not to a payment error.
Fix: Raise a grievance ticket from the portal describing the shortfall or missing arrears, and attach any entitlement document you hold. Do not route this through a bank; SPARSH computes the pension.
Cause 5: Name not appearing in SPARSH at all
Newly retired pensioners sometimes find no SPARSH account exists yet. Migration after retirement takes time, and until your account is migrated the old disbursing agency continues to pay.
Fix: Contact your Record Office or the PCDA (Pensions), Prayagraj helpline to check migration status. Verifying your service and personal data in SPARSH before you retire is the single most effective way to avoid a delayed first pension.
Cause 6: Family pension not started after a death
When a spouse or dependent cannot start family pension, the usual cause is incomplete family details in the deceased pensioner's SPARSH profile.
Fix: Take the death certificate and relationship proof to a SPARSH service centre for assisted filing, or initiate the family pension request through SPARSH. This is why keeping spouse and dependent particulars current in the profile matters while the pensioner is alive.
How to raise and escalate a grievance
- Log in to sparsh.defencepension.gov.in and open grievance registration under Services.
- Select the category, describe the issue, attach documents, and submit to generate a ticket number.
- Track the ticket on the portal.
- If unresolved, escalate on the toll-free helpline 1800-180-5325 quoting the ticket, or write to pcdapprayagraj.dad@gov.in / PCDA (Pensions), Draupadi Ghat, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh 211014.
A safety note
SPARSH never charges a pensioner for any service, and no SPARSH official will ask for your password or OTP. Treat any call demanding money or credentials in the name of SPARSH as fraud and report it on the helpline.
