What is Uttar Pradesh Panch Takht Yatra Yojana?

Uttar Pradesh Panch Takht Yatra Yojana is a pilgrimage assistance scheme announced by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 4 July 2025. Under the announcement, the Uttar Pradesh government proposes to pay Rs 10,000 per person to Sikh residents of the state so that they can travel to the five Takht Sahibs, the highest seats of temporal authority in Sikhism.

Panch Takht Yatra Yojana was announced alongside a parallel scheme for Buddhist pilgrims. Both were framed by the Chief Minister as an extension of the state's existing pilgrimage support work to communities that had not been covered before. The scheme is often written locally as Panch Takht Yatra Yojna or "Panch Takht Darshan Yojana"; all refer to the same 2025 announcement.

What has actually been decided so far

  • Assistance of Rs 10,000 per pilgrim.
  • Applications to be taken entirely online, to keep the process transparent.
  • Tours to be run in partnership with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which already operates the Railways' pilgrimage circuits.
  • Priority to economically weaker applicants.

What has not been decided or published

As of 2 August 2026, the Uttar Pradesh government has not issued a formal government order, a set of scheme rules, an application portal, an annual beneficiary target, a budget figure or an age limit for Panch Takht Yatra Yojana. Any website showing a "Panch Takht Yatra Yojana application form" today is not an official Uttar Pradesh government source. Do not pay anyone to "register" you.

Which five Takhts are covered?

The five Takhts named in the announcement are:

Takht Location
Sri Akal Takht Sahib Amritsar, Punjab
Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib Anandpur Sahib, Punjab
Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Talwandi Sabo, Punjab
Takht Sri Patna Sahib Patna, Bihar
Takht Sri Hazur Sahib Nanded, Maharashtra

A complete circuit of all five covers roughly 3,500 kilometres of rail travel across four states, which is exactly why an assisted, IRCTC-operated package was proposed rather than a simple cash reimbursement.

Who is eligible for Panch Takht Yatra Yojana?

Only two eligibility conditions have been stated publicly so far, so this section reflects the announcement and nothing more.

You are expected to be covered if:

  • You are a resident of Uttar Pradesh.
  • You are a Sikh devotee wishing to visit the five Takht Sahibs.
  • You belong to an economically weaker household. This is stated as a priority, not yet as a hard cut-off.

You are not eligible if:

  • You live outside Uttar Pradesh. The scheme was announced for devotees residing in the state and is funded from the state budget.

Age limits, income ceilings, a once-in-a-lifetime restriction and rules about accompanying attendants are all common in comparable state pilgrimage schemes, but none of them has been notified for Panch Takht Yatra Yojana. This guide will not guess at them.

How to apply for Panch Takht Yatra Yojana

Applications have not opened. Until the Uttar Pradesh government publishes the scheme rules, these are the only steps worth taking:

  1. Get your Uttar Pradesh residence certificate ready. Apply on the e-District portal at edistrict.up.gov.in or at a Jan Seva Kendra. Every state pilgrimage scheme starts with proof of domicile, and the certificate takes time to issue.
  2. Seed your Aadhaar with your bank account. Assistance of this kind is normally released through Direct Benefit Transfer, which fails if the bank account is not Aadhaar-linked. Ask your bank branch to confirm seeding status.
  3. Obtain a current income certificate from the tehsil or through edistrict.up.gov.in, because economically weaker applicants are to be given priority.
  4. Watch the Department of Religious Affairs portal at updharmarthkarya.in and the Uttar Pradesh government's official announcements for the scheme notification and the opening of the application window.
  5. Apply online when the window opens, using the portal named in the notification. Do not use any private website that offers to file the form for a fee.

When will applications open?

No date has been announced. The scheme was directed on 4 July 2025 and, as of 2 August 2026, has not been operationalised. Uttar Pradesh has run pilgrimage assistance for other yatras through the Department of Religious Affairs for years, so the administrative machinery exists; what is missing is the government order fixing eligibility, the budget line and the IRCTC agreement.

What to do if you see a fake application form

Announced-but-not-yet-launched schemes attract fraud. Three checks protect you:

  • An Uttar Pradesh government scheme portal always ends in .up.gov.in, .up.nic.in or is linked from up.gov.in. A .com or .in site with a form is not official.
  • No genuine Uttar Pradesh scheme charges a fee for the application form itself. A Jan Seva Kendra may charge a small notified assistance fee, and nothing more.
  • No official will ask for your Aadhaar OTP, your bank PIN or an advance "processing payment" for a pilgrimage seat.

Where to raise a query or complaint

  • Dharmarth Karya Vibhag (Department of Religious Affairs), Uttar Pradesh — portal at updharmarthkarya.in, directorate at Varanasi with a sub-office at Kailash Mansarovar Bhawan, Ghaziabad.
  • Jansunwai: Integrated Grievance Redressal System, jansunwai.up.nic.in, is the state's general complaint channel. A query asking when the scheme will be notified can be filed here and is routed to the concerned department.
  • District Magistrate's office in your district, which will hold the application collection responsibility once the scheme starts, as it does for other Uttar Pradesh pilgrimage schemes.

Uttar Pradesh Panch Takht Yatra Yojana remains, as of August 2026, a stated policy commitment with a stated amount of Rs 10,000 per pilgrim and no operational rules. That is the accurate position, and it is better to wait for the government order than to act on the detailed "eligibility criteria" being circulated by unofficial websites.
