How an ABVKY claim is paid
What the numbers show
The Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana pays cash relief to workers covered by the Employees' State Insurance scheme who lose their jobs. A written reply in the Lok Sabha on 27 July 2026 gives the all India figures for three years. In 2025-26, 1,406 insured persons received relief and ESIC paid out Rs 1,52,20,915.
The trend over the years
The scheme paid 688 people in 2023-24, a total of Rs 1,01,87,728. The count rose to 1,978 people and Rs 2,72,08,672 in 2024-25, then fell back to 1,406 people and Rs 1,52,20,915 in 2025-26. The reply does not explain the fall in the last year.
What the scheme pays
Relief is 50 per cent of the average daily wage for up to 90 days of unemployment, once in a lifetime. The worker must have been in insurable employment for at least 12 months before losing the job and must have contributed for at least 78 days in one completed contribution period. Relief is not paid if the job loss came from misconduct, a lockout, superannuation or a false statement under the ESI Act.
Is the scheme still open?
Yes. The reply states that ESIC approved an extension of ABVKY from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. The scheme has been extended a number of times since it began in 2018.
What the figures do not tell you
The reply gives only national totals. It does not give state-wise numbers, the number of claims rejected, or how long claims took to settle. The amounts are total payouts, so they depend both on how many people claimed and on their wages before they lost their jobs.
Where to check
ESIC lists the scheme rules and the claim process on its website. Newer figures usually appear in replies to questions in Parliament, which PIB publishes on its website.
