How an ABHA links your health records
What the numbers show
The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has given a health ID to most of India. A PIB explainer put the count at 97.61 crore ABHA IDs on 17 September 2026, with 119.95 crore health records linked to them. On the supply side, over 5.78 lakh health facilities and over 11 lakh healthcare professionals are on the national registries.
The trend over the years
ABHA creation came in big bursts. The ABDM dashboard shows about 20 crore IDs in 2021-22, the first year after the national launch in September 2021, and a peak of 22.29 crore in 2023-24. The pace fell to 10.80 crore in 2025-26 as most adults were already covered, but 2026-27 has already crossed 11 crore by mid-October.
Record linking is now growing faster than ID creation. Linked records rose from about 90.7 crore in March 2026 (PIB release 2241085) to 119.95 crore in September 2026, which matters more for patients than the ID count itself.
State differences
Uttar Pradesh alone had about 14.94 crore ABHA IDs on 22 March 2026, per a Lok Sabha reply. Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Bihar follow. Tamil Nadu, a large state, is lower at about 2 crore. About 1.14 crore early IDs have no state attached, because state was not a mandatory field before September 2023.
What the figures do not tell you
An ABHA ID does not mean the person uses it. Many IDs were created in bulk at camps or along with Ayushman cards, and one person can hold more than one. The records count shows documents linked, not how often doctors open them. Incentive payments under the Digital Health Incentive Scheme are still small: about Rs 136 crore in all by June 2026.
