Who is eligible for Coaching Sahay?

You can apply if:

• You belong to the Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) or the Economically Backward Class (EBC) and hold a valid certificate from the competent authority.
• You are a native of Gujarat.
• You are a science stream student, since the scheme is tied to NEET, JEE and GUJCET.
• You scored 70% or more marks in Class 10.

Who cannot apply, or is not eligible:

• Students outside the SEBC and EBC categories under this particular advertisement. Scheduled Caste students apply through the Director, Scheduled Caste Welfare, and Scheduled Tribe students through the tribal development route; unreserved and EWS learners are served by GUEEDC's own coaching help scheme. Applying under the wrong directorate is the most common avoidable mistake.
• Commerce and arts stream students, who fall outside a scheme built around NEET, JEE and GUJCET.
• Students who scored below 70% in Class 10.
• Families with annual income above Rs 6 lakh.
• Students who have not enrolled in a coaching class, since there is no fee to reimburse.
• Applicants applying outside the advertised window, because the portal simply does not accept the form when the scheme is closed.

How much assistance is given?

The assistance is capped at Rs 20,000 or the actual coaching fee, whichever is lower, and is disbursed by DBT as per the notified rules.

Two consequences follow from the "whichever is lower" rule. A student paying Rs 12,000 receives Rs 12,000, not Rs 20,000. A student paying Rs 90,000 receives Rs 20,000 and funds the rest themselves. Keep the fee receipt for the exact amount paid, because that receipt sets the ceiling on your own claim.

What documents are required?

Get the income certificate fresh. An income certificate issued two or three years earlier is the single most common document defect in Social Justice and Empowerment Department applications, and it takes a week to replace.

How to apply for Coaching Sahay online

1. Watch the news page of the Director, Developing Castes Welfare at sje.gujarat.gov.in/ddcw for the year's coaching scheme advertisement, which announces the exam groups covered and the online application window.
2. Open esamajkalyan.gujarat.gov.in and register as a new user with your name, mobile number and email, or sign in if you already have an account.
3. Select Director, Developing Castes Welfare as the department and choose the coaching assistance scheme for NEET, JEE and GUJCET.
4. Fill in the application: personal details, category, school, science stream, Class 10 percentage, family income and the coaching institute's name and fee.
5. Upload the scanned documents; caste or EBC certificate, Class 10 marksheet, income certificate, bonafide certificate, coaching fee receipt, Aadhaar and bank passbook page.
6. Enter the student's bank account number and IFSC exactly as printed in the passbook, since the DBT credit fails on a wrong IFSC.
7. Submit the application, then print or save the acknowledgement carrying the application number.
8. Where the advertisement requires it, submit the printed application with attested copies to the district Social Welfare Officer within the days stated on the printout.

Can I apply offline?

The scheme is run through e-Samaj Kalyan and there is no separate paper scheme. How do I check my application status?

1. Sign in at esamajkalyan.gujarat.gov.in with the credentials used to apply.
2. Open the application status or my applications section and locate your application number.
3. The status moves through submitted, verified at district level, sanctioned and paid.
4. If the file sits at district verification, contact the District Social Welfare Officer with the application number; the district office does the document scrutiny, not Gandhinagar.
5. Confirm the credit in the student's bank passbook.

When is the scheme open?

Coaching Sahay is not open all year. The Director, Developing Castes Welfare, publishes an advertisement for online applications for a given academic year, for example the advertisement covering the coaching scheme for NEET, JEE, IIM, CEPT, IELTS and TOEFL for the year 2024-25 — and the e-Samaj Kalyan portal accepts applications only during that window. Students should check the ddcw news page at the start of the academic year and again after Class 11 admissions, rather than assuming the portal is permanently open.

Why applications get rejected, and how to fix them

• Wrong directorate. SC students applying under the Developing Castes Welfare advertisement, or SEBC students applying to the SC directorate, are rejected regardless of merit. Check your certificate category first.
• Class 10 below 70%. There is no relaxation published for this threshold.
• Stale income certificate, or one showing income above Rs 6 lakh.
• Non-science stream enrolment, which does not fit a NEET, JEE and GUJCET scheme.
• No fee receipt from the coaching institute, so there is nothing to reimburse against.
• Bank account in a parent's name rather than the student's, or a mismatched IFSC, causing a sanctioned payment to fail.
• Applied after the window closed. Wait for the next year's advertisement; a late application cannot be revived.
• Illegible uploads, particularly photographed marksheets. Scan them.
