Who each scheme suits

Choose DAY-NRLM if you are a rural woman who wants to build savings and access affordable, collateral-free credit as part of a self-help group, and are willing to follow group savings and meeting discipline. It is the best fit for financing farm, livestock, non-farm and micro-enterprise activity over time, the Lakhpati Didi path to a household income above Rs 1 lakh.

Choose DAY-NULM EST&P if you live in a statutory town or municipal area, belong to an urban poor household, and want a short, certified course that leads to a salaried job or a micro-enterprise. It is the correct scheme for urban residents, who are not eligible for DAY-NRLM.

Choose DDU-GKY if you are a rural young person aged 15–35 (up to 45 for special groups) who wants free residential or non-residential training with a job at the end, and are willing to relocate for placement.

Can you hold more than one?

Yes, these schemes serve different needs and are not mutually exclusive, with one important caveat about repeat training.

• DAY-NRLM + DDU-GKY: fully compatible. In fact, DDU-GKY is itself a sub-programme of DAY-NRLM. An SHG household's youth can take DDU-GKY training while the mother or sister runs the family's SHG livelihood. The mission actively links the two.
• DAY-NRLM + DAY-NULM: you cannot benefit from both at the same time for the same household in the same place, because one is rural and one is urban. Your address decides which applies. A household that migrates from village to city moves from DAY-NRLM's coverage to DAY-NULM's.
• DDU-GKY + DAY-NULM EST&P: both are skilling schemes split by geography — rural (DDU-GKY) versus urban (EST&P). You apply to whichever matches your residence, not both. Note that EST&P bars a repeat claim if you were trained under DAY-NULM or SJSRY in the last three years; DDU-GKY bars repeating the same trade you already completed.

Which one first?

• If you are a rural woman, start with DAY-NRLM SHG membership. It gives you credit and a platform, and opens the door to DDU-GKY skilling for your household's youth.
• If you are a rural youth wanting a job now, go straight to DDU-GKY via Kaushal Panjee; you can still be part of your family's SHG.
• If you live in a town, your only route among these is DAY-NULM EST&P at the City Mission Management Unit.

Are DAY-NRLM and DAY-NULM the same scheme? No. They share the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana name and the livelihoods goal, but DAY-NRLM is rural (Ministry of Rural Development) and DAY-NULM is urban (Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs), with separate eligibility and delivery.
