How help from the National Fund is given
What the numbers show
Only a small part of the National Fund for Persons with Disabilities has been used so far. A Lok Sabha answer of 22 July 2025 gives a corpus of Rs 250 crore. Up to 31 March 2025, only Rs 23.69 crore had been sanctioned and Rs 22.75 crore disbursed, of which Rs 17.24 crore had been utilised.
The trend over the years
The number of people helped has grown. It was 84 in 2021-22, 347 in 2022-23 and 346 in 2023-24, then jumped to 907 in 2024-25. Over the four years, 1,684 persons with disabilities benefited.
The mix changed sharply. In 2022-23 and 2023-24 almost all help went to entrepreneurship support (336 and 282 people). In 2024-25 no one was listed under entrepreneurship, while education rose to 728 beneficiaries and skill development to 179. Only two people received assistive devices in the four years.
What the figures do not tell you
The Department does not keep state-wise figures for the fund, so it is not possible to see where the money went. The answer does not give the amount spent in each category or each year, only the cumulative totals. It also does not show how many applications were received or rejected.
Where to check
These figures come from the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities' answer in the Lok Sabha. Guidelines and the application portal for the National Fund are on the Department's website, depwd.gov.in.
