JanSamarth Portal: Why Applications Get Rejected and How to Fix It
This is a supporting guide for JanSamarth Portal. See the main guide for full eligibility, benefits and documents.
Why JanSamarth applications get rejected
On JanSamarth, rejection happens in two very different places, the portal's eligibility check and the bank's credit appraisal, and most applicants confuse them. Clearing the portal only gets you a digital in-principle approval; the final sanction rests entirely with the lender you pick. The JanSamarth Portal pillar covers how the single-window process works; this article covers each failure point and its fix.
Understanding which stage rejected you tells you where to fix it. A portal-stage failure is about data and eligibility; a bank-stage failure is about credit and documents.
Portal-stage failures
Reason: Aadhaar OTP authentication fails. The portal authenticates through an OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number. If your mobile is not linked to Aadhaar, you cannot proceed.
Fix: Link your current mobile number to Aadhaar at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra before applying.
Reason: PAN and Aadhaar mismatch. A name or detail mismatch between PAN and Aadhaar stops the automated verification.
Fix: Correct the mismatched record so PAN and Aadhaar carry the same name and date of birth, then retry.
Reason: Your need is not one of the 15 hosted schemes. JanSamarth hosts 15 credit-linked central schemes only. Ordinary personal loans, vehicle loans and credit cards are not eligible and are not on the portal.
Fix: If your purpose is education, farming, a micro or small business, a livelihood activity, urban housing or rooftop solar, run the eligibility questionnaire to find the right scheme. If it falls outside all 15, JanSamarth is not the route.
Reason: You fail the specific scheme's own criteria. The portal maps you to a scheme, but each scheme has its own age, income, category, activity or project-cost conditions written into it — for example PMEGP, PM SVANidhi or the Weaver Mudra Scheme.
Fix: Read the on-screen scheme conditions before selecting it, and choose a scheme whose criteria you actually meet.
Bank-stage failures
Even with a clean portal in-principle approval, the bank runs its own appraisal and can decline. According to the portal, the common bank-stage reasons are:
Reason: Weak credit history or an existing default. An existing default with any lender, or a poor credit score, leads banks to decline at appraisal.
Fix: Clear outstanding defaults and check your credit report before applying. A co-applicant or guarantor may help where the scheme allows it.
Reason: Incomplete or unreadable document uploads. This is the most common avoidable reason. Blurred, oversized or missing scans force resubmission or rejection.
Fix: Upload clear scans within the size limit shown on the upload screen. The portal displays the exact document list after you select a scheme, because requirements differ scheme to scheme.
Reason: Project report gaps. For PMEGP and startup applications, banks decline most often on viability grounds when the project report is thin.
Fix: Prepare a short project report with cost, capacity and expected revenue before applying.
Reason: Wrong branch mapping. Choosing a branch that does not operate the scheme in your district stalls or rejects the application.
Fix: Select a branch that actually runs the scheme in your district from the roughly 250 onboarded lenders shown for your location.
What a portal approval does and does not mean
- Does mean: you cleared the eligibility screening and got a digital in-principle approval.
- Does not mean: your loan is sanctioned. The bank runs its own credit appraisal, verification and documentation before disbursing, and may still decline.
