How a jobseeker uses the NCS portal
What the numbers show
The National Career Service portal at ncs.gov.in is run by the Directorate General of Employment in the Ministry of Labour and Employment. By July 2026 it had more than 6.46 crore registered jobseekers and 58.76 lakh registered employers since its launch in 2015. In 2025-26 alone, counted up to 20 January 2026, more than 3.43 crore vacancies were mobilised on the portal, and more than 2.23 crore jobseekers had been shortlisted by employers.
The trend over the years
A Rajya Sabha reply from December 2023 gives year-wise figures. Vacancies mobilised rose from 12,61,066 in 2020-21 and 13,46,765 in 2021-22 to 34,81,944 in 2022-23. The number of employers registering in a year jumped from 52,863 in 2021-22 to 8,19,827 in 2022-23. The same reply noted that the portal had been integrated with the Udyam portal, EPFO and ESIC to register employers automatically, and with private job portals for sharing vacancies. The 2025-26 figure of over 3.43 crore vacancies shows how much larger the portal has become since then.
State differences
As on 14 July 2025, Maharashtra had 8,70,482 active employers, far ahead of Uttar Pradesh (4,80,578) and Tamil Nadu (3,23,877). Active vacancies tell a different story: West Bengal had 62,855, the most for any single state, while 16,13,586 vacancies were listed for multiple states and 20,56,384 had no state given.
What the figures do not tell you
Registration counts are cumulative and include people who have since found work or stopped using the portal. Employers do not have to report final hiring, so the ministry publishes shortlisting numbers, not jobs filled. Vacancies "mobilised" also include listings shared by integrated private portals, so the same job may appear more than once.
Where to check the live numbers
The NCS home page shows running totals of registered users and live vacancies. The Labour Ministry also releases fresh figures through PIB whenever it answers a question on NCS in Parliament.
