PM-Vidyalaxmi Documents Required: Complete Checklist

This is a supporting guide for PM-Vidyalaxmi (Pradhan Mantri Vidyalaxmi). See the main guide for full eligibility, benefits and documents.

PM-Vidyalaxmi documents required: the complete checklist

To apply for a PM-Vidyalaxmi collateral-free education loan you need eight core documents: a merit-based admission letter from a listed Quality Higher Education Institution (QHEI), the student's Aadhaar, the student's and co-applicant's PAN, a family income certificate, the institution's fee structure, Class 10/12 and last-degree marksheets, the student's bank account details, and a self-declaration on other scholarships. This is the document companion to the main PM-Vidyalaxmi guide, which covers the 3 per cent interest subvention and 75 per cent credit guarantee, here we cover only what to gather, what each proves, and the mistakes that stall an application.

The complete document set

# Document Mandatory What it proves
1 Admission letter from a listed QHEI Yes Admission through merit or open competitive exam; management quota is excluded
2 Student's Aadhaar card Yes Identity, and links the loan account for interest subvention
3 PAN of student and co-applicant Yes Required by the lending bank for the loan
4 Family income certificate Yes Annual family income up to Rs 8 lakh for the 3% subvention
5 Fee structure from the institution Yes Sets the loan amount, which also covers hostel, mess, laptop and living costs
6 Class 10 and 12 marksheets and last qualifying degree marksheet Yes Academic record and, for the sequential method, the type of school attended
7 Student's bank account details Yes The loan account into which subvention is credited must be live at transfer
8 Self-declaration on other scholarships Yes A student availing another central/state scholarship, subvention or fee reimbursement is not eligible

What each document specifically does

Admission letter. The gatekeeper. PM-Vidyalaxmi only funds students admitted on their own merit to a QHEI on the published list. The admission letter must show a merit or open-competitive-exam route; a management-quota letter is rejected outright. Before anything else, confirm your institution appears on the QHEI list on pmvidyalaxmi.co.in, no listing, no benefit.

Income certificate; decides the subvention, not the loan. The loan itself is open to all income groups. The income certificate matters for the 3 per cent interest subvention, which needs annual family income up to Rs 8 lakh. It is also read in the sequential allocation used when applicants exceed the one-lakh annual subvention cap.

Marksheets; proof plus tie-break data. Class 10 and 12 marksheets and your last qualifying degree establish your record. They also carry the government-school and rural-school information that the sequential method uses (from UDISE+ data) when subvention slots are oversubscribed.

Fee structure: sizes the loan. There is no cap on the loan amount; it follows the fee structure plus associated expenses; hostel and mess fees, other refundable and non-refundable fees, a reasonable-quality laptop, and reasonable living expenses. A clear, itemised fee structure lets the bank sanction the full eligible amount.

Self-declaration — the eligibility switch. A student already availing any other central or state scholarship, interest subvention or fee reimbursement is not eligible. The self-declaration is how the Department of Higher Education later identifies who may file the subvention claim, so it must be truthful.

Common mistakes that stall the application

  1. Institution not on the QHEI list. The single most common wasted application. Check the list first.
  2. Management-quota admission letter, excluded; the loan product needs a merit or competitive-exam admission.
  3. Name or date-of-birth mismatch across Aadhaar, PAN, marksheets and bank records; banks reject on mismatch.
  4. Income certificate too old or from the wrong authority; use a current certificate that reflects annual family income.
  5. Inactive bank account, the guidelines state subvention is paid only if the loan account is live at the time the amount is transferred; keep it active.
  6. Claiming both PM-Vidyalaxmi and another scholarship. This is an eligibility failure, not a paperwork gap.

Upload and format tips

The portal uses a simple two-page unified application form. Keep each scan legible, right-side up and correctly cropped; scan the original where possible rather than a photocopy of a photocopy. Confirm the current file-format and size limits on pmvidyalaxmi.co.in at the time you apply, since the portal specifies these and they can change.

FAQ

Do I need collateral or a guarantor's documents? No. PM-Vidyalaxmi loans are collateral-free and guarantor-free for merit admissions to a listed QHEI; a bank cannot demand either for a covered loan.

Is a co-applicant always required? The bank requires the co-applicant's PAN as part of the loan file; confirm your specific lender's requirement, as PM-Vidyalaxmi routes through all scheduled banks, RRBs and cooperative banks.

Which document decides my interest subvention? The family income certificate: subvention needs annual family income up to Rs 8 lakh, while the loan itself has no income bar.
