How an artisan moves through PM Vishwakarma
What the numbers show
PM Vishwakarma filled its registration target early. The scheme was approved for 30 lakh beneficiaries over five years, FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28, and the Ministry of MSME says that target was met within about two years (MSME Annual Report 2025-26). The rest of the work is moving those registered artisans through training, toolkits and credit.
As of 15 September 2026, over 24.37 lakh artisans had completed basic training and over 18.16 lakh had received toolkits. More than 6.19 lakh loans worth about Rs 5,316 crore had been sanctioned (PIB, 16 September 2026).
The trend
Credit is the slowest step. The MSME Annual Report 2025-26 counted 5.31 lakh beneficiaries with loans of Rs 4,578.40 crore, and by September 2026 the count had grown to 6.19 lakh. So about one registered artisan in five has a loan, while about four in five have finished training. Spending rose sharply after the first year, from Rs 745.92 crore in 2023-24 to Rs 3,993.10 crore in 2024-25.
What the figures do not tell you
These are counts of benefits given, not a measure of whether artisans' businesses have grown. The one income finding is from an IIM Mumbai evaluation of 11,591 beneficiaries, where 93% reported a moderate to significant rise in income after training. The figures do not split loans into the first Rs 1 lakh and second Rs 2 lakh tranches, or say how many loans are repaid. Recent official state-wise or trade-wise tables have not been released on pib.gov.in.
