What is the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar?

Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) is the highest civilian honour for children conferred by the Government of India through the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar recognises children who have shown exceptional ability and outstanding achievement, and it carries a medal, a certificate and a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 for each awardee.

The award is presented in six broad fields, Bravery, Art and Culture, Environment, Innovation (Science and Technology), Social Service, and Sports. It was earlier given as two separate awards (the National Bravery Award and the National Child Award) before being brought together and renamed. How to check your application status

PMRBP does not use a numbered acknowledgement and tracking system the way a subsidy or scholarship scheme does. A nomination is either shortlisted, referred back, or not selected, and the process moves in stages over several months, so "checking status" here means following the right stage at the right time rather than logging in for a live tracker.

1. Confirm the nomination went through. After submitting on the National Awards Portal (awards.gov.in), log back in with the same credentials used to nominate and open the "My Nominations" or equivalent dashboard section. A successfully filed nomination shows as submitted, with the category and the child's details as entered.
2. Watch for a screening-stage query. If the screening committee needs a missing document or a clarification on the achievement described, this is usually communicated through the portal account or to the email and mobile number given at the time of nomination. 3. Wait for the results announcement. PMRBP does not notify unsuccessful nominees individually. Common reasons for rejection

PMRBP nominations are competitive by design, since only a small number of children are honoured each year across all six categories, so most nominations that do not proceed are not "rejected" for a procedural error but simply not selected against stronger evidence from other nominees. That said, a nomination can be screened out before it even reaches the selection committee for reasons that are avoidable:

• Age falls outside the window. The child must be above 5 and not more than 18 years old as on 31 July of the award year. A nomination for a child who turned 19 before that date, or who is younger than 5, is screened out regardless of how strong the achievement is. Fix: check the child's age against 31 July of the specific award year before nominating, not against the date of filing.
• The achievement is outside the two-year window. If the act or accomplishment being cited happened more than two years before the closing date for that year's nominations, it is not considered. Fix: nominate in the award cycle that falls within two years of the achievement, and do not wait several years to file.
• Evidence is thin or undated. A description of the achievement without supporting material, such as certificates, media coverage, photographs, or an official record with a date, is difficult for the screening committee to verify. Fix: attach dated, third-party evidence wherever possible, not just a personal account of what happened.
• The achievement does not clearly fit one of the six categories. Nominations that describe a general quality (being a good student, being well-behaved) rather than a specific act of bravery, a documented contribution in art and culture, environment, innovation, social service, or sports are harder to place and weigh against category-specific nominations. Fix: frame the nomination around one clear, specific achievement that maps to a single category.
• Citizenship or residence proof is missing or unclear. Since the award is limited to Indian citizens resident in India, a nomination without adequate proof of this can be held up at screening. Fix: upload a clear identity and residence document that matches the child's other submitted details.
• Incomplete or exaggerated description. Overstated claims that evidence does not support can count against a nomination once the committee cross-checks the material submitted. Fix: keep the written description factual and let the supporting evidence carry the weight of the claim.
• Simply not selected on merit. Because the number of awards each year is small and nominations from across the country compete within each category, a well-documented and eligible nomination can still not be chosen if other nominations that year are judged more exceptional. This is not a defect in the nomination and there is no appeal process; a family may choose to renominate in a later year if the achievement still falls within the eligibility window, or nominate for a fresh achievement.
