Pragati Scholarship Scheme: Why Applications Get Rejected and How to Fix It

Most Pragati Scholarship Scheme rejections come from avoidable process errors, not from being ineligible, an application the institute never verified, a name that does not match across documents, or a bank account in the wrong name. Each has a specific fix, and several can be corrected within the portal's correction window if you act before the deadline. Pragati Scholarship Scheme, AICTE's Rs 50,000-a-year award for girl students in technical courses, is the parent scheme; this article troubleshoots rejections rather than restating who qualifies (in short: girl students in AICTE-approved technical courses with family income up to Rs 8 lakh).

Process rejections and how to fix them

1. Institute verification not completed before the portal closed. This is the biggest single cause. An application the institute nodal officer never verifies is not forwarded to AICTE and lapses. Fix: submit early and personally confirm with the institute nodal officer that they have verified it on scholarships.gov.in well before the deadline.
2. Name mismatch across Aadhaar, marksheet and bank records. The portal runs Aadhaar-based e-KYC and DBT, and a spelling or initials mismatch fails verification. Fix: make the name identical across Aadhaar, marksheets and the bank account before applying; correct the weakest record first.
3. Bank account not in the student's own name. A parent's or joint account fails DBT. Fix: open or use an account in the student's own name, Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped.
4. Defective or mismatched documents. Uploads that are unreadable, or details in the form that do not match the uploaded certificate, get marked defective. Fix: check every uploaded document against the form fields before submitting, and use the correction window if one opens.

Eligibility rejections and how to fix them

1. Institution not AICTE-approved, or the course is not technical. Pragati is only for AICTE-approved technical degree and diploma courses. Fix: confirm your institution and course appear as AICTE-approved; if not, the scheme does not apply.
2. Income certificate above Rs 8 lakh, or from a non-competent authority. Family income must not exceed Rs 8 lakh a year, certified by the competent authority. Fix: obtain a valid certificate from the correct authority; an income above the ceiling cannot be fixed.
3. Third girl child in the family applying. The cap is two girl children per family, declared on the application. There is no fix. A third daughter is not eligible.
4. Male student. Pragati is reserved for girl students; differently-abled students of any gender should look at AICTE's separate Saksham scholarship instead.
5. Already drawing another merit-based central scholarship for the same course. Fix: you cannot double up; choose one scheme.

What is "sanctioned but unpaid", and is that a rejection?

No. A "sanctioned" application that shows no payment is not rejected. It is almost always a DBT failure — the bank account is not Aadhaar-seeded or NPCI-mapped. Fix: get the account Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped, then the DBT credit is re-pushed. Track it on the PFMS portal.

The correction and grievance route

1. Correction window: if the portal opens a correction/defective-application window, log in with your OTR, fix the flagged field or re-upload the document, and resubmit before it closes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reapply the same year after a rejection? If the portal is still open and the reason is fixable (a defect or a document error), use the correction window; otherwise apply in the next cycle.

Does a rejection this year block me next year? No. If you meet the conditions, you can apply again in a later cycle.

My institute says it verified but the status is still pending: what now? Ask the nodal officer for the verification date and reference, and if unresolved, raise it with the NSP helpdesk on 0120-6619540.
