Pragati Scholarship Scheme: How to Check Application and Payment Status
To check your Pragati Scholarship Scheme status, log in to the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in with your One Time Registration (OTR) number and open "Check Your Status" or "Track Application". The dashboard shows the stage, pending at institute, verified, pending at AICTE, or sanctioned, and once sanctioned, the money is tracked on PFMS. Pragati Scholarship Scheme, the AICTE scholarship of Rs 50,000 a year for girl students in technical courses, is the parent scheme; this article is the granular status-tracking walkthrough, not a restatement of eligibility.
Step 1: Check the application stage on scholarships.gov.in
- Open scholarships.gov.in and log in using your 14-digit OTR number and password.
- On the dashboard, open "Check Your Status" (also labelled "Track Application").
- Read the current stage. There is no charge and the status updates as your application moves through verification.
What each status stage means
| Status shown | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Application submitted / pending at institute | You filed it, but your institute nodal officer has not verified it yet | Follow up with the institute, an unverified application never reaches AICTE |
| Verified by institute / forwarded | The institute has approved and pushed it up | No action; wait for AICTE-level processing |
| Pending at ministry / AICTE | Under AICTE scrutiny | No action; monitor periodically |
| Sanctioned / approved | AICTE has approved the scholarship | Move to payment tracking on PFMS |
| Rejected / defective | Turned back for a defect | Read the reason; use the correction window if open |
The most damaging stall is an application that stays "pending at institute" until the portal closes. An application that the institute never verifies is not forwarded to AICTE and lapses, so the institute nodal officer is the first person to chase.
Step 2: Track the payment on PFMS
A "sanctioned" status is not the same as money received. Payment runs by Direct Benefit Transfer through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS):
- Go to the PFMS portal (pfms.nic.in) and open the "Know Your Payment" or DBT status option.
- Enter your bank account number to see whether the DBT credit has been generated.
- If the status shows the amount sent but your account has not been credited, the usual cause is a broken Aadhaar–NPCI mapping: your bank account must be Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped for DBT to land.
Why "sanctioned" money may not arrive
- Account not Aadhaar-seeded or NPCI-mapped. Fix: ask your bank to seed Aadhaar and confirm NPCI mapping, then the failed credit is usually re-pushed.
- Account in someone else's name. The Pragati account must be in the student's own name. A parent's or joint account fails DBT.
- Account dormant or KYC-incomplete. Reactivate the account and complete KYC.
- Bank account number or IFSC entered wrong in the application. Correct it in the next available correction or renewal window.
Step 3: Track a renewal separately
A renewal is a fresh status track each year. Log in with the same OTR, open the renewal application, and confirm the institute has verified it before the renewal window closes — a missed renewal window ends the scholarship for that year, and no status will show for an unfiled renewal.
Frequently asked questions
How often does the status update? It changes as your application is verified and processed; check every few weeks rather than daily, and always before the portal deadline.
Status says sanctioned but no SMS about payment: is that normal? Yes, the sanction and the DBT credit are separate steps. Track the credit on PFMS using your account number.
Whom do I contact if the status is stuck? For portal and login issues, the National Scholarship Portal helpdesk on 0120-6619540; for payment, the PFMS helpline; for scheme queries, the students development schemes page on aicte.gov.in.
Can I check status without logging in? No. Pragati status is tied to your OTR login on scholarships.gov.in.
For eligibility, the benefit amount and the full application steps, see the parent guide to Pragati Scholarship Scheme. Checking your status is free: no agent can charge to "release" a sanctioned scholarship.
