How Jiyo Parsi help reaches a family
What the numbers show
Jiyo Parsi is a small scheme with a narrow aim: to slow the fall in India's Parsi population, which the Census put at 57,264 in 2011. In a Rajya Sabha reply on 10 August 2026, the Ministry of Minority Affairs said 534 births have been reported in the community since 2014-15 and that the scheme has spent Rs 37.43 crore since it began in 2013.
The scheme has helped 582 beneficiaries under its Medical component, which pays for infertility treatment, childbearing, childbirth and post-natal care. Since 2018-19, another 1,055 beneficiaries have been helped under the Health of Community component, which supports childcare and dependent elderly family members.
Where the money goes
Most of the yearly spending now goes to the Health of Community component. In 2025-26 it received Rs 2.93 crore, while the Medical component received Rs 0.24 crore and Advocacy used Rs 0.29 crore. Advocacy money pays for publicity, workshops and notices in Parsi newspapers. No money from it goes directly to families.
The number of couples taking medical help has dropped in recent years: 60 in 2022-23, then 10 in each of the next two years, according to a Rajya Sabha reply in February 2026. Children and elders supported under the community component have stayed at a steadier level.
A note on the figures
Two replies in 2026 give different amounts for the Health of Community component in 2024-25: Rs 2.38 crore in February and Rs 2.66 crore in August. The table uses the later reply. Birth counts also vary by period: the Ministry said in December 2025 that 232 babies were born under the scheme in the five years from 2020-21 to 2024-25, while the 534 figure covers births reported in the whole community since 2014-15.
Is the scheme continuing?
The Ministry told Lok Sabha in December 2025 that the scheme is being considered for continuation in the next Finance Commission cycle. An evaluation by the International Institute for Population Sciences in 2025 found that the scheme had largely reached its intended population.
Where to check
Parliament replies on Jiyo Parsi are published on PIB and sansad.in. The Ministry of Minority Affairs runs separate online portals for the Medical and Health of Community components, where couples can apply and track their applications.
