What is SCOPE?

Senior Citizen Opportunities for Productive Engagement (SCOPE) is a component of Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana, the umbrella senior citizens scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. SCOPE is, in practice, an online employment exchange for older people, hosted on the Senior Citizens Welfare Portal at scw.dosje.gov.in.

According to the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, the reasoning behind SCOPE is straightforward: many senior citizens have experience, time and energy that businesses need, and the human resource departments of many private enterprises want experienced and stable people for certain roles. SCOPE brings the two sides together by virtual matching of preferences rather than by running any training or placement programme of its own.

When checked on 31 July 2026, the SCOPE job board carried about 1,572 active listings, filterable by state or union territory and by full-time or part-time work, with salary range, qualifications, experience and skills shown against each posting.

Who is eligible for SCOPE?

You can register as a job seeker if:

• You are a senior citizen aged 60 years or above.
• You are an Indian resident with a working mobile number and email address for portal verification.

Employers who can use SCOPE:

• Private companies, enterprises and organisations wanting to hire experienced older workers can list vacancies on the portal.

Who cannot apply:

• People below 60 years of age are not eligible to register as job seekers on SCOPE. Younger job seekers should use the National Career Service instead.
• SCOPE gives no cash benefit, so a senior citizen looking for a pension or an allowance cannot apply through it. For a pension, see the National Social Assistance Programme.
• Registration does not guarantee a job. There is no quota, no reservation and no entitlement to placement, the hiring decision rests entirely with the employer.

There is no income ceiling, no BPL condition and no educational minimum imposed by the scheme itself. Individual listings set their own requirements.

How to apply for a job through SCOPE

1. Open the Senior Citizens Welfare Portal at scw.dosje.gov.in and go to the SCOPE section.
2. Register using your mobile number and email address, and complete the profile with your date of birth, district and state.
3. Enter your work history, qualifications and skills, and state your preference for full-time or part-time work.
4. Use the filters on the job board to search by state and job type, and read the salary range, experience and skill requirements on each listing.
5. Apply to the listings that fit through the application link shown against the posting. The employer contacts you directly.
6. Keep the profile updated; employers search the database, so an incomplete or stale profile is skipped.

How much does a senior citizen earn through SCOPE?

SCOPE itself pays nothing. There is no stipend, honorarium, allowance or pension attached to registering or being placed. Earnings depend entirely on the job taken up and the salary the employer offers, which is shown on each listing.

This is the most common misunderstanding about SCOPE: searches for a "SCOPE scheme amount" or "SCOPE pension" find nothing, because the component funds a matching platform, not a benefit.

SCOPE registration is free. No agent, consultant or "placement office" may charge a senior citizen a fee, a deposit or a commission for a SCOPE listing or placement. Report any such demand on 14567.
