How an institution claims Seva Bhoj reimbursement
What the numbers show
Seva Bhoj Yojna pays back the Central share of GST that religious and charitable bodies pay on raw food for free meals, langar and prasad. In a Lok Sabha answer of 3 February 2025, the Ministry of Culture listed every release since the scheme began. It paid Rs 146.00 lakh in 2023-24 and Rs 143.00 lakh in 2022-23.
The trend over the years
Releases to Punjab were Rs 171.00 lakh in 2019-20 and have eased since, to Rs 169.45 lakh in 2020-21, Rs 154.92 lakh in 2021-22, Rs 143.00 lakh in 2022-23 and Rs 146.00 lakh in 2023-24. The Sikh Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee in Amritsar, which runs the langar at the Golden Temple, received most of this each year: Rs 142.12 lakh in 2023-24.
Who else has been paid
Only a handful of other institutions appear. In 2019-20, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams received Rs 19.63 lakh and the Sri Venkateswara Annaprasadam Trust Rs 5.27 lakh, the only releases outside Punjab. The Durgiana Temple in Amritsar and a Ludhiana charitable trust have received smaller amounts in later years.
What the figures do not tell you
The answer gives money released, not the number of institutions registered or the claims still pending. A body that serves free food but has not completed Darpan and CSMS registration, or has not filed claims, will not show up. The latest year in the answer is 2023-24, so releases for 2024-25 onwards are not yet in the public record used here.
Where to check the numbers
Year-wise releases are given in Parliament answers by the Ministry of Culture, published on sansad.in. The Ministry's own site, indiaculture.gov.in, has the scheme guidelines and registration details.
