What the numbers show

Shakti Sadan is the relief and rehabilitation home of Mission Shakti for women in distress, including trafficked women. The Mission Shakti dashboard of the Ministry of Women and Child Development showed 431 functional Shakti Sadans and 3,36,090 women assisted when checked in October 2026.

State differences

Odisha stands far ahead, with 61,866 women assisted and 68 homes, the most of any state. Telangana has 54,116 women assisted from just 21 homes. Manipur has 47 homes and Tamil Nadu 46, but fewer women assisted than the leading states. Gujarat shows 6,176 women assisted but no functional home listed on the dashboard. Haryana, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu show no women assisted.

Funds over the years

A Lok Sabha answer of 20 December 2024 gave the central funds released for the last three years. Releases were Rs 1,847.00 lakh in 2021-22 under the old Swadhar Greh name and Rs 1,544.83 lakh in 2022-23, the first year as Shakti Sadan. They then rose sharply to Rs 11,897.97 lakh in 2023-24. Manipur received the most that year, Rs 2,889.94 lakh, followed by Assam and Tamil Nadu.

What the figures do not tell you

The dashboard figure for women assisted is a running total and counts women helped over the years, not the number living in homes today. The Lok Sabha answer of December 2024 counted 11,196 women benefiting at that point. The funds data shows money released by the Centre, not what states spent, and Shakti Sadan is a demand driven scheme, so a state that sends no proposal gets no release in that year.
