Swachh Bharat Mission - Grameen: How to Check Application and Payment Status
This is a supporting guide for Swachh Bharat Mission - Grameen (SBM-G). See the main guide for full eligibility, benefits and documents.
How do I check my SBM-Grameen toilet application status?
Log in at sbm.gov.in or through the Citizen's Corner on swachhbharatmission.ddws.gov.in with your registered mobile number and OTP, then open the IHHL application tracker to see whether your application is registered, verified or paid. The Rs 12,000 incentive under Swachh Bharat Mission - Grameen is released only after your completed toilet is verified and geo-tagged, so the status you see reflects that verification chain, not the day you filled the form.
Which portal shows SBM-G status?
SBM-Grameen runs on two linked addresses. The public information and Citizen's Corner sit on swachhbharatmission.ddws.gov.in, while the transactional management information system: where individual household latrine (IHHL) registration and payment records live; is on sbm.gov.in. Both use the same login: your registered mobile number and a one-time password. If you registered your demand through the Gram Panchayat rather than online, your record still exists in this system; the Panchayat Secretary entered it on your behalf.
Do not trust third-party "status check" websites that ask for money or Aadhaar details. The only official portals are the two ddws.gov.in and sbm.gov.in addresses named above.
Step-by-step: checking your IHHL status online
- Open sbm.gov.in (or the Citizen's Corner link on swachhbharatmission.ddws.gov.in) on a phone or computer.
- Choose the login option and enter your registered mobile number, the number the Gram Panchayat recorded against your IHHL demand.
- Request an OTP, enter it with the captcha, and sign in.
- Open the IHHL application or track application section.
- Select your State, District, Block, Gram Panchayat and village if the portal asks, or enter your application reference number.
- Read the current stage against your household record.
If you cannot log in because the mobile number on file is not yours, the fix is at the Gram Panchayat: the number recorded during registration must be corrected there before the online tracker will work for you.
What each SBM-G status means and what to do next
- Registered / demand recorded: your household is on the IHHL list but construction and verification have not been completed. Next step: build the toilet to the approved twin-pit specification if you have not already.
- Verification pending. The Gram Panchayat has not yet inspected the completed toilet or uploaded the geo-tagged photograph. This is the single most common place applications stall. Next step: ask the Panchayat Secretary or Swachhata Gramin Sanyojak to inspect and upload the photograph.
- Verified — inspection is done and the geo-tagged photograph is on the management information system. Payment is queued. Next step: confirm your bank account is Aadhaar-seeded so the direct benefit transfer does not fail.
- Paid / DBT credited, the Rs 12,000 has been released to your bank account. Next step: check your passbook; if the credit has not arrived within a few working days, raise it with the Block Development Officer, who holds the payment records.
The scheme's own FAQ confirms the incentive is "released after construction is verified, not in advance", so a status stuck before the paid stage almost always points back to the geo-tagged photograph step, not to the money itself.
Checking payment status specifically
Once your application shows verified, the payment moves through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) rail to your bank account. If the portal shows the payment as initiated or transferred but nothing reaches your passbook, the usual cause is a bank account that is not seeded with your Aadhaar, which makes the DBT bounce. Get the account Aadhaar-seeded at your bank branch, then ask the Gram Panchayat or Block Development Officer to re-trigger the failed transfer.
Who to contact if the status is stuck
- Gram Panchayat (Panchayat Secretary / Swachhata Gramin Sanyojak), holds the verification record and uploads the geo-tagged photograph. First stop.
- Block Development Officer: holds the payment records for the block.
- SBM Academy toll free: 18001800404. The mission's help line.
- Grievance redressal portal of the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, linked from swachhbharatmission.ddws.gov.in.
No fee is payable to check status or release the incentive. No official or agent may charge a household to update or unblock its record. For eligibility, the document set and the full application walkthrough, see the parent Swachh Bharat Mission - Grameen guide.
