ABVKY Claim Guide: Apply, Track Status and Fix Rejections
An Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana (ABVKY) claim is filed online on the ESIC portal after 30 days of unemployment, then finalised with a notarised affidavit at your ESIC Branch Office, and tracked with the claim ID that office issues. This guide walks through applying, checking status, and the reasons ESIC most often turns claims down.
Step-by-step: how to apply
- Wait out the 30-day gap. Relief is due only after 30 days from the date of unemployment; no claim for a future period is accepted.
- Go to esic.gov.in and open the ABVKY claim link. Enter your 10-digit Insurance Number, Aadhaar number, bank account number with IFSC, the claim period, and your mobile number.
- Let the portal run its eligibility check. If you clear it, the system generates the claim in Form AB-1 and an employer forwarding letter in Form AB-2, with a unique claim ID. If not, it tells you why on screen.
- Print Form AB-1 and turn it into an affidavit. Sign or thumb-mark it, then get it notarised on Rs 20 non-judicial stamp paper, as the ESIC circular requires.
- Get Form AB-2 signed and stamped by your last employer, confirming your employment period and the reason you lost the job.
- Submit at your designated ESIC Branch Office or DCBO, in person or by post, with the affidavit, Form AB-2, an Aadhaar photocopy, and a cancelled cheque or self-attested passbook copy.
- Keep the claim ID. It is what the Branch Office needs for every follow-up, and what you quote if you escalate later.
The Branch Office verifies your details, computes the relief on Form AB-3, and the Branch Manager releases payment electronically to your bank account.
How to check your claim status
ABVKY has no online status-tracking dashboard on the ESIC portal; status is checked manually, through the Branch Office that processes your claim.
- Have your claim ID and Insurance Number ready. Both are needed for any status query.
- Contact the ESIC Branch Office or DCBO where you filed the affidavit and Form AB-2. The office maintains a register of ABVKY claims in Form AB-4, and can tell you whether your claim is under verification, sanctioned on Form AB-3, or paid.
- Call the ESIC toll-free helpline, 1800-11-2526, if the Branch Office is slow to respond or you cannot visit in person.
- Watch your bank account. Relief is credited electronically with no separate notice; the credit itself is often the first confirmation that the claim cleared, unless the Branch Office contacts you for a correction.
- If the Branch Office is unresponsive, file a grievance on CPGRAMS, selecting ESIC under Ministry/Department and your Regional Office under Subordinate Department.
Why ABVKY claims get rejected, and how to fix each one
| Reason | Fix |
|---|---|
| Less than one year of insurable employment before unemployment | Not correctable after the fact; check your ESI service record with your employer before filing |
| Fewer than 78 days of contribution in the relevant contribution period | Confirm your contribution history with your employer or the ESIC portal before submitting |
| Aadhaar or bank account not linked to the insured person database | Get the linkage updated at the Branch Office; the claim will not pass the system check without it |
| Unemployment was resignation, voluntary retirement, or superannuation | Not admissible under the scheme's rules; no remedy exists for this cause |
| Dismissal or termination under disciplinary action | Not admissible; ABVKY only covers involuntary loss of employment for other reasons |
| Form AB-2 missing or unsigned by the last employer | Follow up with the employer directly; the forwarding letter is mandatory |
| Claim filed after one year from the date of unemployment | No cure once the deadline passes; file as soon as you are eligible next time |
| Re-employed during the claim period | Relief stops from the date of re-employment; only the clear unemployed month is payable |
| Bank details in the ESIC database are outdated | The Branch Manager can authenticate a new account from a cancelled cheque or passbook in the claimant's name |
If a claim is rejected, take the specific reason back to your Branch Office rather than resubmitting blind: most of the fixable causes above (missing AB-2, unlinked Aadhaar or bank, outdated bank details) can be corrected and refiled within the one-year window; the eligibility-based rejections cannot.
FAQ
Is there a portal to track ABVKY status online, like a tracking number? No. ESIC does not publish a self-service online tracker for ABVKY; status is obtained by contacting your Branch Office with the claim ID, or by calling the toll-free helpline 1800-11-2526.
How long does an ABVKY claim take to process after submission? The ESIC sources reviewed do not state a fixed processing timeline. Follow up with your Branch Office directly using your claim ID if you have not heard back within a reasonable period.
Can I refile after a rejection? Yes, if the reason is fixable, such as a missing Form AB-2 or an unlinked bank account, and you are still within one year of your date of unemployment. Rejections based on insufficient contribution period, resignation, or disciplinary termination cannot be refiled.
