What is the SECI Internship?

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Internship is a structured internship programme run by SECI, a public-sector undertaking under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. SECI is the nodal agency for implementing many of India's solar and renewable-energy schemes, and the internship gives students exposure to the Corporation's work across solar projects, finance, human resources, IT, contracts, procurement and corporate planning.

Who is eligible for the SECI Internship?

You can apply if:

• You are a student pursuing a degree in engineering, renewable energy, CA, CS, ICWA/CMA or MBA from a recognised institution.
• You have your own laptop, which SECI requires for the internship.
• You can provide an institutional letter confirming your enrolment and a no-objection to the internship.
• You are willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement and maintain professional conduct.

You cannot apply if:

• You are not enrolled in one of the eligible disciplines.
• You cannot provide the institutional enrolment / no-objection letter.
• You are unable to meet the practical conditions, such as bringing your own laptop or signing the NDA.

Selection also depends on availability. A department may take up to three interns: or up to six in specific cases such as engineering, M.Tech, CA or CMA students, so meeting the eligibility conditions does not by itself secure a place.

2. Open the internship application form and enter your personal details, name as per your Class 10 certificate, date of birth, address, a valid 10-digit mobile number and a working email.
3. Select your discipline and department, for example Solar, Finance, IT, HR & Admin, Projects, Contracts & Procurement or Corporate Planning — and your area of interest.
4. Upload your CV/Resume (PDF or DOC, under 2 MB) and your institutional letter confirming enrolment and no-objection.
5. Enter your desired internship dates and submit the form within the monthly window.
6. Await SECI's response. If selected, sign the non-disclosure agreement, arrange your own laptop and join on the agreed date.

How much benefit does the SECI Internship provide?

The benefit is the monthly stipend, Rs 8,000 for internships shorter than 6 months and Rs 12,000 for internships of 6 months or more, plus the experience and a completion certificate. Internship duration varies by stream: engineering and M.Tech run 3 to 6 months, CA/CS/ICWA/CMA run from 6 months up to 3 years, and MBA internships run from about 7 weeks to 6 months.

SECI is clear that the stipend is the only payment: there is no boarding, lodging or transport support, and completing the internship does not guarantee employment at SECI.

Interns can be placed across a range of departments: Solar, HR & Admin, Finance, IT, Projects, Contracts & Procurement, Company Secretary, Corporate Planning and the Engineering & Monitoring Division, so the practical experience differs markedly by placement. A finance or CA intern works on very different tasks from an engineering intern on a solar project. Choosing a department and area of interest that matches your course is therefore worth doing carefully at the application stage.

How to check your application status

SECI does not run a separate online tracker or application-ID lookup for internship applicants, so status checking works differently from most government scheme portals:

• Watch your email and phone. SECI contacts shortlisted candidates directly using the email address and mobile number entered on the application form. Check your inbox (including the spam folder) regularly after the 10th of the month, when the application window closes.
• No news within a few weeks of the window closing usually means not shortlisted for that cycle. SECI does not send rejection emails to every applicant; silence after the selection period is the practical signal.
• Call or email the corporate office for a manual check. If you applied and heard nothing after a reasonable interval, you can write to corporate@seci.co.in or call 011-24666200 and ask about your application, quoting the discipline, department and month you applied in.
• Reapply the next month if unsuccessful. Because the application window reopens every month (1st to 10th), an applicant not selected in one cycle can submit a fresh application in the next cycle without any cooling-off period being specified by SECI.
• Once selected, the next checkpoint is the joining formalities, not an online status page: SECI's response itself functions as the "status update," followed by signing the non-disclosure agreement and confirming your joining date.

Common reasons for rejection

• Discipline or course does not match an eligible stream. SECI's internship is open only to specific streams: engineering, renewable energy, CA, CS, ICWA/CMA and MBA. An application from a student in an unrelated degree is turned down regardless of academic performance. Fix: check that your current course falls into one of these named disciplines before applying.
• Missing or inadequate institutional letter. The letter from your institution must confirm both your enrolment and a no-objection to undertaking the internship. A generic bonafide certificate that omits the no-objection statement, or a letter not on institutional letterhead, is a common cause of applications being set aside. Fix: ask your institution specifically for a letter that confirms enrolment and grants no-objection, not just a standard bonafide certificate.
• CV/Resume not uploaded in the accepted format. Applications where the CV is missing, uploaded as an image, or in a format the portal does not accept get dropped at the screening stage. Fix: upload your CV as a PDF or DOC file as the form specifies.
• Applying outside the monthly window. The form is only open from the 1st to the 10th of each month; submissions attempted outside this window simply are not accepted. Fix: prepare your documents in advance and submit only within the open window.
• Department already at intake capacity. Each department can take a limited number of interns (up to three generally, up to six for engineering, M.Tech, CA or CMA candidates in specific cases). A well-qualified, fully compliant application can still be turned down if the chosen department has already filled its quota for that cycle. Fix: this is a capacity issue rather than a documentation issue; reapplying in a subsequent month, or indicating flexibility across departments where the form allows it, improves the odds.
• Unable to commit to practical conditions. Applicants who cannot arrange their own laptop or are unwilling to sign the non-disclosure agreement are not taken on, since SECI treats both as conditions of joining, not optional preferences. Fix: confirm you can meet these conditions before applying, since backing out after selection wastes a place another intern could have used.
• Inconsistent personal details. Mismatches between the name, date of birth or contact details on the form and on supporting documents can cause an application to be flagged during verification. Fix: enter details exactly as they appear on your academic records and institutional letter.
