What is the SECI Internship?

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) Internship is a structured internship programme run by SECI, a public-sector undertaking under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. SECI is the nodal agency for implementing many of India's solar and renewable-energy schemes, and the internship gives students exposure to the Corporation's work across solar projects, finance, human resources, IT, contracts, procurement and corporate planning.

According to the scheme details on the myScheme portal, the internship pays a monthly stipend that depends on its length: Rs 8,000 a month for internships of less than 6 months and Rs 12,000 a month for internships of 6 months or longer. SECI clarifies that the programme does not include any additional compensation such as boarding, lodging or transport, the stipend is the only payment.

Who is eligible for the SECI Internship?

You can apply if:

• You are a student pursuing a degree in engineering, renewable energy, CA, CS, ICWA/CMA or MBA from a recognised institution.
• You have your own laptop, which SECI requires for the internship.
• You can provide an institutional letter confirming your enrolment and a no-objection to the internship.
• You are willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement and maintain professional conduct.

You cannot apply if:

• You are not enrolled in one of the eligible disciplines.
• You cannot provide the institutional enrolment / no-objection letter.
• You are unable to meet the practical conditions, such as bringing your own laptop or signing the NDA.

Selection also depends on availability. A department may take up to three interns: or up to six in specific cases such as engineering, M.Tech, CA or CMA students, so meeting the eligibility conditions does not by itself secure a place.

How to apply for the SECI Internship

1. Visit the SECI website, seci.co.in, during the application window, which opens from the 1st to the 10th of each month.
2. Open the internship application form and enter your personal details, name as per your Class 10 certificate, date of birth, address, a valid 10-digit mobile number and a working email.
3. Select your discipline and department, for example Solar, Finance, IT, HR & Admin, Projects, Contracts & Procurement or Corporate Planning — and your area of interest.
4. Upload your CV/Resume (PDF or DOC, under 2 MB) and your institutional letter confirming enrolment and no-objection.
5. Enter your desired internship dates and submit the form within the monthly window.
6. Await SECI's response. If selected, sign the non-disclosure agreement, arrange your own laptop and join on the agreed date.

How much benefit does the SECI Internship provide?

The benefit is the monthly stipend, Rs 8,000 for internships shorter than 6 months and Rs 12,000 for internships of 6 months or more, plus the experience and a completion certificate. Internship duration varies by stream: engineering and M.Tech run 3 to 6 months, CA/CS/ICWA/CMA run from 6 months up to 3 years, and MBA internships run from about 7 weeks to 6 months.

SECI is clear that the stipend is the only payment: there is no boarding, lodging or transport support, and completing the internship does not guarantee employment at SECI.

Interns can be placed across a range of departments: Solar, HR & Admin, Finance, IT, Projects, Contracts & Procurement, Company Secretary, Corporate Planning and the Engineering & Monitoring Division, so the practical experience differs markedly by placement. A finance or CA intern works on very different tasks from an engineering intern on a solar project. Choosing a department and area of interest that matches your course is therefore worth doing carefully at the application stage.
