Admission under the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) is decided by merit through each state's ITI admission process, not by a central sanction, so "rejection" here means one of a handful of specific failures: an entry-qualification mismatch, a merit rank too low for your chosen trade, documents that fail at reporting, or, the one that hurts later, a trainee never registered on NCVT MIS. This article works through each and the fix.

Trade entry-qualification mismatch

Each trade has its own minimum qualification: most CTS trades need class 10, while a smaller set (such as Dress Making) accept class 8. Applying to a class 10 entry trade with a class 8 pass is rejected outright. Fix: check the entry qualification of each trade before locking your choices, and apply only to trades your qualification actually opens.

Merit rank too low for the chosen trade and institute

In most states merit is calculated on your class 10 or class 8 marks, and popular trade-and-institute combinations fill from the top of the merit list. A genuine, eligible candidate can still miss out purely on rank. Fix: this is not a defect to correct; add more trade and institute preferences, and watch later allotment rounds, since seats free up as higher-ranked candidates drop out.

Documents not verified at the reporting stage

Even after seat allotment, the seat is confirmed only when you report to the allotted ITI with original documents for verification. If a document is missing or does not match, the allotted seat lapses. The core set is the class 10 or class 8 marksheet, date of birth proof and Aadhaar, plus a caste certificate if you claim SC/ST/OBC reservation and a domicile certificate for state-quota eligibility. Fix: carry originals of everything you uploaded, and make sure names and dates match across documents.

Missing the reporting deadline after allotment

An allotted seat is not yours until you report within the deadline. Students who wait for a "better" round sometimes let a confirmed seat lapse. Fix: report within the deadline for any acceptable allotment; you can usually still participate in upgrade rounds after securing a seat, per your state's rules.

Reservation claimed without a valid certificate

A caste certificate is needed only if you claim SC, ST or OBC reservation, but if you claim it and cannot produce a valid certificate at verification, the reserved-category seat is refused. Fix: either produce a valid caste certificate in the correct format, or apply in the general category.

Trainee not registered on NCVT MIS

This is the failure that surfaces late and hurts most. After admission, the institute must register you on the NCVT MIS portal. A trainee whose record is missing or wrong is blocked from the examination and the National Trade Certificate, even after completing a year or two of training. Fix: verify early that your trainee record appears on NCVT MIS with the correct name, trade, ITI and session, and if it is missing, escalate to the ITI principal's office immediately; corrections are made by the institute, not the trainee.

Trade-specific physical requirements

A few technical trades prescribe physical or vision standards in the trade syllabus. A candidate who cannot meet a prescribed standard for that specific trade is not eligible for it. Fix: check the trade's requirements before choosing it, and pick a trade whose standards you meet.

CTS charges no cash benefit and pays nothing to a trainee, so there is no payment rejection to worry about, the failures are all about qualification, merit, documents and NCVT MIS registration. No agent can secure an ITI seat for a fee, and no payment beyond the notified institute fee should be made to anyone.
