What is the AGR-2 farm mechanization scheme?

AGR-2 is the general-category component of Gujarat's farm mechanization assistance, run by the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation Department, Government of Gujarat through the Directorate of Agriculture. Its full name on scheme lists is "AGR-2 (Farm Mechanization) Scheme of Farmers Other Than SC/ST".

The Directorate of Agriculture runs farm mechanization as a set of three parallel components under the Chief Minister's agriculture mechanization programme:

• AGR-2, farmers other than SC and ST, that is general category farmers.
• AGR-3, Scheduled Tribe farmers.
• AGR-4; Scheduled Caste farmers.

The three components deliver essentially the same list of machinery. What differs is the applicant category, the budget head the money comes from and, in practice, the rate of assistance, which is typically more generous for the SC and ST components.

The purpose of AGR-2 is straightforward. Financial assistance is given to farmers for the purchase of agricultural equipment so that they can raise the productivity of their crops. A Gujarat farmer with 3 to 5 acres who currently hires a tractor by the hour spends a significant part of every season's margin on that hire; owning a rotavator or a seed drill changes the arithmetic. AGR-2 subsidises part of that capital cost.

Who is eligible for AGR-2?

You can apply if:

• You are a farmer of Gujarat holding cultivable land in your own name, as shown in the 7/12 and 8-A land records.
• You belong to a category other than Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe.
• You are registered on the iKhedut portal, or you register at the time of applying.
• You hold an Aadhaar-linked bank account capable of receiving direct benefit transfer.
• The implement you want is listed in the iKhedut component list for AGR-2 in that application window.

You cannot apply if:

• You are a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe farmer. You are not eligible under AGR-2 and should apply under AGR-4 or AGR-3 respectively — you are not excluded from mechanization support, only from this component.
• You are a landless agricultural labourer, or a tenant or sharecropper with no land record in your own name.
• You are not a resident cultivator of Gujarat.
• You have already taken subsidy on the same implement within the cooling-off period notified for that item. Each implement carries a rule on how often the benefit can be repeated, and it is stated on the component page.
• You bought the machine before your application was approved. A purchase made ahead of sanction is not eligible for reimbursement.
• Your invoice is from a supplier that is not empanelled or from a manufacturer whose model is not on the approved list.

How much subsidy does AGR-2 give?

AGR-2 assistance is structured as a percentage of the purchase price subject to a fixed rupee ceiling, and both the percentage and the ceiling are set separately for every implement. A rotavator, a tractor, a thresher and a power sprayer all carry different rates.

Those rates are notified afresh with the annual budget and are shown on the component page on iKhedut when the window opens. This guide deliberately does not quote a single figure, because a farmer who plans a purchase around a subsidy number from a previous year or from an unofficial website usually ends up short. Open the component on iKhedut, read the rate and the ceiling for your exact item, and take a screenshot before you apply.

The subsidy is paid after purchase and verification, by direct benefit transfer into the farmer's bank account. It is a reimbursement of part of the cost, not an advance, so you must be able to fund the full purchase first.

What documents are required for AGR-2?

How to apply for AGR-2 on iKhedut

1. Check that the window is open. Go to ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in and open the schemes section for the Agriculture department. AGR-2 components appear only while the application window announced by the department is running.
2. Choose your applicant status. The portal asks whether you are a registered farmer with an existing iKhedut registration number or a new applicant. New applicants complete registration with Aadhaar and land details first.
3. Select the AGR-2 component and the exact implement you want, and read the subsidy rate, the ceiling and any conditions shown on that component page.
4. Fill the application form with your personal details, village, survey number, land area from the 7/12, caste category, and bank account details. Enter the account number and IFSC exactly as printed in your passbook.
5. Submit the application and note the application number, then use the portal's option to confirm the application. An unconfirmed application is not treated as filed.
6. Print the submitted application, sign it, attach self-attested copies of the 7/12 and 8-A, Aadhaar, bank passbook and the joint-holder consent if applicable, and deliver it to the taluka or district agriculture office within the period stated on the printout.
7. Wait for the pre-approval order. Do not buy the machine until you have it.
8. Purchase the implement from an approved supplier after approval, keep the original invoice, and submit the invoice and any required documents for verification.
9. Receive the subsidy by DBT into your bank account after the field verification is complete.

How to check your AGR-2 application status

Open ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in and use the application status option, entering your application number and land or Aadhaar details as prompted. The status moves through stages: submitted, confirmed, received at the taluka office, pre-approved, purchase verified, and payment released. If your application shows as submitted but never confirmed, it will not progress; go back into the portal and confirm it. If the printed copy never reached the taluka office, the file does not exist on the ground however good the online record looks.

Why AGR-2 applications get rejected

• Application not confirmed on the portal after submission.
• Printed application not delivered to the taluka or district agriculture office within the stated period.
• Machine purchased before pre-approval, so the invoice date disqualifies the claim.
• Land record mismatch. The name on the 7/12 differs from the Aadhaar name, or the land is jointly held without a consent form.
• Wrong category. An SC or ST farmer applying under AGR-2 instead of AGR-4 or AGR-3.
• Bank details incorrect, causing the DBT to fail.
• Target exhausted for the district. Farm mechanization components run against a fixed physical and financial target, and applications beyond it are held or returned even when the applicant is fully eligible.
• Supplier not approved, or the model purchased is not on the approved list.

Most of these are avoidable by doing two things: confirm the application online and hand in the signed printout, and never buy the machine before the approval order arrives.

Help and grievance redressal

• Village level: the Village Computer Entrepreneur assists with iKhedut data entry.
• Taluka level: the Taluka Agriculture Officer or extension officer, who receives the printed application and does the field verification.
• District level: the District Agriculture Officer, for delays and target questions.
• State level: the Directorate of Agriculture, dag.gujarat.gov.in, and the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation Department, agri.gujarat.gov.in.

Applying under AGR-2 is free. No dealer can require you to buy from him as a condition of the subsidy, and no agent can charge a commission on the subsidy amount you receive.
