National Mission on Edible Oil–Oil Palm: Maintenance and Input Cost for Intercropping in Oilpalm
Gujarat state government scheme
National Mission on Edible Oil–Oil Palm Maintenance and Input Cost for Intercropping pays a Gujarat oil palm grower Rs 10,500 per year for four years, a total of Rs 42,000, to cover upkeep and intercrop inputs during the plantation's gestation period. Farmers apply online on the iKhedut portal.
What is the oil palm maintenance and intercropping assistance?
National Mission on Edible Oil–Oil Palm: Maintenance and Input Cost for Intercropping in Oilpalm is a component of the central National Mission on Edible Oil–Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) as implemented in Gujarat by the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation Department, worked through the Directorate of Horticulture and delivered on the iKhedut portal. The component pays a grower a fixed annual amount for the upkeep of a young oil palm plantation and for the inputs needed to raise an intercrop between the palm rows.
India imports a very large share of the edible oil it consumes, and oil palm gives more oil per hectare than any other oilseed grown in the country. The obstacle is not agronomy but cash flow. An oil palm sapling planted today yields nothing marketable for about four years. A farmer who converts land to oil palm therefore gives up four seasons of income while still paying for irrigation, fertiliser, weeding and plant protection. This component exists to keep that farmer solvent through the gap.
Key features
- Rs 10,500 per year for four years; Rs 42,000 in total per beneficiary.
- Covers maintenance of the plantation and input cost for intercropping between the palm rows.
- Inputs contemplated include seeds, fertilisers and crop protection material.
- Filed online on iKhedut under Agricultural Schemes.
- Implemented by the Directorate of Horticulture, Gujarat.
How much does the scheme pay and when?
| Year of plantation | Assistance |
|---|---|
| First year | Rs 10,500 |
| Second year | Rs 10,500 |
| Third year | Rs 10,500 |
| Fourth year | Rs 10,500 |
| Total | Rs 42,000 |
The flat structure is deliberate. Maintenance cost does not fall away as the palm matures; irrigation demand actually rises, so the department pays the same amount in each of the four gestation years rather than tapering it.
Two practical points follow from the year-by-year design. First, the money is not a single sanction covering four years. Each year is its own claim, supported by its own field check, and a grower who misses a year's application window simply loses that year's Rs 10,500. Second, the intercrop is expected to be real. The component is called input cost for intercropping, and field staff look for an actual intercrop, pulses, vegetables, flowers or fodder; in the inter-row space, not bare ground.
Unit costs and the pattern of assistance under NMEO-OP are revised by the centre and re-notified by the state from time to time. The rate displayed against the component on iKhedut in the year you apply is the rate that binds.
Who is eligible for the oil palm intercropping assistance?
You can apply if:
- You are a resident of Gujarat.
- You are a farmer with land in your own name, evidenced by the 7/12 and 8-A extract.
- You have planted oil palm on that land and the plantation is inside its four-year gestation period.
- You are actually maintaining the plantation and raising an intercrop.
- You have a bank account in your own name for the transfer.
You cannot apply if:
- You have not planted oil palm. This component funds maintenance of an existing plantation, so an intending grower is not eligible until the palms are in the ground.
- Your plantation is past the four-year gestation window and has come into bearing.
- You cannot produce a land record for the survey number carrying the plantation.
- You are not a resident of Gujarat, or the land lies outside the state.
- You are claiming for a year in which the application window has closed — a missed year cannot be claimed retrospectively.
Oil palm in Gujarat is concentrated in the districts where a processing company has been allotted a zone, because harvested fresh fruit bunches must reach a mill within about 24 hours. If no zone company operates near your land, raise that with the district horticulture office before planting rather than after.
What documents are required?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 7/12 and 8-A land extract | Yes | Must cover the survey number carrying the oil palm |
| Aadhaar card | Yes | Identity, and matching with land and bank records |
| Bank passbook or cancelled cheque | Yes | Name must match the applicant exactly |
| Proof of oil palm planting | Yes | Nursery bill, planting material receipt or zone company agreement |
| Ration card | Usually | Residence proof attached to the printed form |
| Caste certificate | If applicable | Only for sub-plan components |
Scan every page cleanly and keep each file under the size limit iKhedut displays. An unreadable 7/12 upload is one of the commonest causes of an otherwise sound application being returned.
How to apply for the oil palm maintenance assistance
- Open ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in during the application window notified for the financial year.
- If you are new to the portal, click Login, then Beneficiary Registration, and choose Farmer as the beneficiary type.
- Select your district, taluka and village, state what kind of account holder you are, enter your bank account number and name, solve the captcha and click Save and Next.
- Enter your mobile number and email, click Send OTP, enter the OTP, set a password, solve the captcha and Submit.
- Log in, click Schemes, then Agricultural Schemes, find the oil palm maintenance and intercropping component and click Apply.
- Click Apply New and fill the form; personal details, survey number, area under oil palm, year of planting and bank details.
- Use Update Application to correct anything, then confirm the application; once confirmed it cannot be edited.
- Print the confirmed application, sign it and submit it with photocopies of all documents to the office shown on the acknowledgement, then wait for field verification and the credit to your account.
How to apply if you cannot use a computer
National Mission on Edible Oil–Oil Palm assistance has no purely paper route in Gujarat. The application must originate on iKhedut. Three workable options exist.
- Use the Village Computer Entrepreneur (VCE) at the gram panchayat e-Gram centre.
- Use a Common Service Centre or an authorised cyber café and collect the printout.
- Ask the taluka or district horticulture office to identify the correct component for your plantation year and help with the form.
How to check your application and payment status
- Open ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in and go to the Applicant Corner.
- Enter your application number and registered mobile number.
- The screen shows whether the application is pending, sanctioned or rejected, and lets you reprint it or upload documents against it.
- For the payment itself, check the bank account you gave on the form; the credit appears as a direct benefit transfer after field verification.
- If nothing moves for several weeks after the window closes, follow up at the district horticulture office with your printed application.
Why oil palm applications get rejected
- Signed printout never submitted. The application is confirmed online but the paper copy never reaches the office. This is the most avoidable rejection of all.
- No intercrop found on the field visit, when the claim is specifically for intercropping input cost.
- Land record not in the applicant's name, or a survey number on the form that does not match the 7/12.
- Plantation outside the gestation window, either not yet planted, or already bearing.
- Bank account name mismatch, which stops the transfer even after sanction.
- Annual target exhausted. iKhedut components run against district-wise physical and financial targets, and a valid application filed late can be held over.
Where to get help
- Taluka and district horticulture offices; first point of contact for the current year's window, targets and field verification.
- Directorate of Horticulture, Gandhinagar (doh.gujarat.gov.in) for scheme guidelines and government resolutions.
- iKhedut Applicant Corner for login, application-number and document upload problems.
- Mari Yojana (mariyojana.gujarat.gov.in), the state's citizen scheme directory, where this component is listed as scheme number 382.
Because the rate, the target and the window are re-notified each financial year, read the scheme text shown on iKhedut for the current year before you commit expenditure. The Rs 10,500 per year figure is what the state currently publishes for this component, and it is subject to revision in a later year's resolution.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the oil palm intercropping maintenance assistance pay?
The scheme pays Rs 10,500 per year for four years — Rs 10,500 in the first year, Rs 10,500 in the second, Rs 10,500 in the third and Rs 10,500 in the fourth. That works out to Rs 42,000 across the plantation's gestation period, paid year by year rather than as one lump sum.
Who is eligible for this oil palm scheme in Gujarat?
A farmer who is a resident of Gujarat and has planted oil palm is eligible. The published eligibility on the myScheme record is short — applicant should be a farmer and a resident of Gujarat — and the operational filter is that the plantation must be inside its four-year gestation period.
Why does oil palm need four years of maintenance support?
Oil palm yields no marketable fruit bunches for roughly four years after planting, so the grower carries input and upkeep costs with no crop income. The scheme bridges that gap and pays for the intercrop — pulses, vegetables or similar — grown between the palm rows in those years.
Where do I apply for the oil palm maintenance assistance?
Apply online at ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in under Schemes, then Agricultural Schemes, during the window notified for the financial year. After confirming the application online you must print it, sign it and submit it with your documents to the office named on the acknowledgement.
Is this a central scheme or a Gujarat scheme?
It is both — the National Mission on Edible Oil–Oil Palm is a central mission, and Gujarat's Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation Department implements this component in the state through the Directorate of Horticulture and the iKhedut portal.
Can I claim the money before planting the oil palm?
No. The assistance is for maintenance and input cost during the gestation period, which only begins once the palms are in the ground. Planting material itself is supported under a separate component of the same mission.
Do I get all four instalments automatically once sanctioned?
No. Each year's instalment follows that year's application and field verification. Departmental staff check that the plantation is standing and being maintained before the next Rs 10,500 is released.
Is there any fee to apply on iKhedut?
No. Applying on iKhedut is free, and no official or agent is authorised to charge a commission for getting the assistance sanctioned. A small notified data entry charge at a Village Computer Entrepreneur counter is a separate, legitimate service fee.
