What is the Best Urban Local Body Vayoshreshtha Samman?

The National Award for Senior Citizens, known as Vayoshreshtha Samman, is a set of national awards instituted by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to recognise the contribution of eminent senior citizens and of institutions that work for older persons. • Bodies that can demonstrate concrete services for senior citizens, such as old-age homes, day-care centres, senior-citizen helplines, dedicated grievance channels, barrier-free public spaces, parks, and rebates or concessions on municipal charges.

Cannot apply:

• Individual senior citizens cannot apply for this category and receive no personal financial benefit from it. This is an award to a city government, not a welfare payment. Older persons who need financial or health support should look at schemes such as the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana or the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana.
• Rural bodies, district and gram panchayats; are not eligible in this category; a separate category covers panchayats.
• Private organisations and NGOs are not eligible here; they may qualify under the "Best Institution for providing services to Senior Citizens" category instead.

How to apply for the Best Urban Local Body Vayoshreshtha Samman

Because this is an award and not an individual benefit, there is no citizen application form. The urban local body itself is nominated through the National Awards Portal.
