The short answer
Social pensions in India are one payment a month, paid by the state, with a small central share from NSAP inside it. The central share is Rs 200 to Rs 500 a month. The state decides the total, the age and the income limit. So the same person gets Rs 400 a month in one state and Rs 4,000 in another. The calculator shows your state's figure and the conditions.
Example: a 65-year-old with a BPL card. Uttar Pradesh pays Rs 1,000 a month. Tamil Nadu pays Rs 1,200. Andhra Pradesh pays Rs 4,000.

Questions people ask
- How much is the old age pension in India?
- The central share under NSAP is Rs 200 a month from 60 to 79 and Rs 500 from 80. Each state adds its own share, so the amount you receive is set by the state. It ranges from Rs 400 a month in Bihar to Rs 4,000 in Andhra Pradesh.
- Can I get the central pension and the state pension together?
- You receive one pension. In most states the central NSAP share is folded into the state pension, so the state figure is the total. The calculator shows the total and says how much of it is central.
- What is the age for old age pension?
- 60 years for the central scheme and most states. Some states start earlier for SC, ST or women. The widow pension starts at 40 under NSAP and at 18 in many states. The disability pension needs 40% disability, 80% under the central rule.
- Is a BPL card needed?
- The central NSAP pensions need the household to be below the poverty line. Many states instead set an income limit, often Rs 48,000 to Rs 2 lakh a year. The calculator asks for both.
- Were the NSAP pensions renamed?
- Yes. The Cabinet renamed them on 14 October 2026: Pradhan Mantri Vridhavastha Pension, Pradhan Mantri Vidhawa Pension and Pradhan Mantri Divyangjan Pension. The amounts in this calculator follow the current rates.
- Are these amounts per month or per year?
- The calculator shows the year's total and states the monthly figure on each line.
