The short answer

A student can usually hold one government scholarship at a time. The central schemes pay a maintenance allowance by course group and reimburse compulsory fees. The income limit is Rs 2.5 lakh a year for SC, ST and OBC students. Many states pay their own scholarship instead, or add a top-up. The calculator lists each one and shows which pays most.

Example: an SC hosteller in a BSc course, family income under Rs 2.5 lakh. The central maintenance allowance is Rs 7,000 a year, plus fee reimbursement. A day scholar gets Rs 3,500.

Questions people ask

How much scholarship does an SC student get after Class 10?
Under the central post-matric scholarship, a day scholar gets Rs 2,500 to Rs 5,500 a year, by course group. A hosteller gets Rs 4,000 to Rs 13,500. Compulsory fees are reimbursed on top. The family income limit is Rs 2.5 lakh a year. Several states add their own amount.
Can a student hold two scholarships at once?
Usually not. Most central and state scholarship guidelines say a student may take only one government scholarship at a time. The calculator shows each as its own route. Pick the highest.
What is the income limit for scholarships?
Rs 2.5 lakh a year for the central post-matric SC, ST and OBC schemes. Rs 2 lakh for minority pre-matric and post-matric. Rs 3.5 lakh for NMMSS and the merit-cum-means minority scholarship. States set their own limits, often Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh.
Does a hosteller get more than a day scholar?
Yes. Maintenance allowance is higher for hostellers in almost every scheme, because it covers lodging. Tick the hosteller box to see the difference.
Are these amounts per year or per month?
Per year. Where a scheme pays per month for 10 months, the calculator shows the year's total.
Is the figure guaranteed?
No. It follows the current rate tables. The institution and the scholarship portal verify marks, income and attendance before payment.
