The Prime Minister Early Career Research Grant (PM-ECRG), an Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) programme for newly appointed faculty, needs eight documents to move from a saved draft to a submitted, institution-endorsed application. The complete PM-ECRG document checklist

1. PhD, MD, MS, MDS or MVSc degree certificate. Proves your qualifying research degree in science, engineering or medicine. Provisional certificates are risky, upload the final degree if you have it.
2. Proof of date of joining your current institution. This is the document that carries the most weight, because two eligibility conditions ride on it: joining on or after 1 February 2023, and applying within two years of that date. Use the appointment letter or joining report, and enter the date on the form exactly as printed.
3. Endorsement from the host institution. Signed by the head of the institution, confirming that lab space, facilities and administrative support are available. This is processed online after you forward the application. You do not upload it as a file first, so leave time for the head's office to act.
4. Principal Investigator certificate. The standard ANRF proforma in which you declare you do not hold a listed ANRF or SERB individual grant. A false declaration here is an automatic disqualifier, so check your grant history before signing.
5. Age proof. Matriculation (Class 10) certificate or equivalent showing date of birth. ANRF counts age as on the last date of the call.
6. Category certificate. Needed only if you claim the three-year age relaxation as SC, ST, OBC or physically challenged (women also get the relaxation). If you are within 42 without relaxation, skip it.
7. Technical research proposal (PDF). A single PDF, maximum 10 MB, covering objectives, methodology, a line-by-line three-year budget within the Rs 60 lakh ceiling, and a timeline. This is the document expert committees actually score.
8. Plagiarism undertaking. A declaration that the proposal text is original.

What each document proves

The documents split into three jobs. Identity and eligibility; degree certificate, joining proof, age proof and, where relevant, the category certificate: establish that you are the person the scheme is for. Declarations — the PI certificate and plagiarism undertaking; put your integrity on record. Format and size rules that trip people up

• The proposal must be one PDF under 10 MB. Applicants who embed high-resolution figures routinely breach the limit; compress images before export rather than splitting the file.
• Joining date must match across every document. The appointment letter, the profile field and the form must all show the same date. A mismatch is read as an eligibility failure, not a typo.
• The endorsement is an online step, not a scanned upload. Forward the application early, the head of the institution has to approve it before submission, and this is the most common last-day bottleneck.
• Category certificate only when claiming relaxation. Uploading it when you are not claiming relaxation adds nothing; omitting it when you are claiming relaxation loses you the three extra years.

Common mistakes

• Treating a provisional or contractual appointment as a "regular" position, ad-hoc, guest, visiting and annually renewed roles do not qualify, so the joining proof must show a regular post.
• Leaving the endorsement to the last day, so the call closes before the institution approves it.
• Declaring "no other grant" on the PI certificate while still holding a Start-up Research Grant or Core Research Grant, which triggers exclusion at scrutiny.
• Building a budget above Rs 60 lakh or without line-item justification, which the review committee penalises.
