What is Nanda Gaura Yojana?

Nanda Gaura Yojana is a girl-child welfare scheme of the Government of Uttarakhand, run by the Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development. The scheme merges two older programmes, the Nanda Devi Kanya Yojana, which supports a girl at birth, and the Gaura Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana, which supports her when she completes higher secondary schooling. Together they are delivered as a single scheme so a family deals with one department and one set of rules.

According to the state government order, Nanda Gaura Yojana pays Rs 11,000 at the girl's birth and Rs 51,000 when she passes Class 12, a total of Rs 62,000 per eligible girl. Who is eligible for Nanda Gaura Yojana?

You can apply if:

• The family is a permanent resident of Uttarakhand.

• The family income is within the ceiling fixed by the department for that year. This scheme is meant for economically weaker families, so an income certificate is checked.
• For the birth grant, the girl's birth is registered and a birth certificate is available.
• For the Class 12 grant, the girl has passed the Class 12 examination.

You cannot apply if:

• The family is not a permanent resident of Uttarakhand.
• The family income is above the ceiling notified for the scheme.
• You are claiming for a third or later girl child, the scheme is limited to two girls per family.
• The claim is for the Class 12 grant but the girl has not yet passed Class 12.

The exact income ceiling and the age or timing windows for each grant are set in the department's government orders and are revised from time to time. How much does Nanda Gaura Yojana pay?

Nanda Gaura Yojana pays in two instalments tied to milestones, not on a monthly calendar:

• Rs 11,000 after the birth of the girl child, once the birth is registered.
• Rs 51,000 after the girl passes the Class 12 examination.

The two grants add up to Rs 62,000 per girl. A family with two eligible daughters can claim the birth grant and the Class 12 grant for each daughter separately. The money is transferred to the bank account linked to the application after the documents are verified.

What documents are required for Nanda Gaura Yojana?

Keep both original documents and photocopies. For the birth grant the birth certificate is the key document; for the Class 12 grant the marksheet is the key document.

How to apply for Nanda Gaura Yojana

1. Visit your nearest Anganwadi centre and ask the Anganwadi worker for the Nanda Gaura Yojana application form, or collect it from the district Women and Child Development office (District Programme Officer / Child Development Project Officer).
2. Fill in the form for the correct component. The birth grant (Rs 11,000) for a newborn girl, or the Class 12 grant (Rs 51,000) for a girl who has passed Class 12.
3. Attach the required documents: Aadhaar, permanent residence certificate, income certificate, bank passbook, and the birth certificate or Class 12 marksheet depending on the grant.
4. Submit the completed form and documents to the Anganwadi worker or the CDPO/DPO office, which forwards it for verification.
5. After verification, the grant is transferred to the bank account given in the form. Keep the acknowledgement or receipt for follow-up.

Because the scheme is delivered through the Anganwadi and district offices, the Anganwadi worker is the first point of contact for forms, help with filling them, and status updates. Some parts of the process, such as verification and payment tracking, are handled through the state's e-services systems by the department.

How to check your Nanda Gaura Yojana application status

Nanda Gaura Yojana applications are tracked at the district level. To check the status:

1. Ask the Anganwadi worker who submitted your form, or visit the CDPO / DPO office with your acknowledgement.
2. Quote your application details and the component you applied for — the birth grant or the Class 12 grant.
3. If the payment has been approved, confirm that your bank account details are correct so the transfer does not fail.

Why Nanda Gaura Yojana applications get rejected

• Family income above the ceiling set for the scheme.
• Residence not established, the permanent residence certificate is missing or does not cover Uttarakhand.
• Claim beyond the two-girl limit, a third or later daughter is not covered.
• Wrong document for the grant claimed, for example, applying for the Rs 51,000 grant without the Class 12 marksheet.
• Bank account mismatch so the transfer cannot be completed.
