What is the Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund?

Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund is a contributory social security scheme of the Government of Uttarakhand for the women who run the state's Anganwadi centres. Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund pays a one-time amount to an Anganwadi worker, mini-Anganwadi worker or Anganwadi helper when she leaves service on attaining the age of 60 years. The scheme is administered by the Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development (Mahila Sashaktikaran evam Bal Vikas Vibhag), whose portal is wecd.uk.gov.in, through the district and project-level machinery of the Integrated Child Development Services network.

The reason the fund exists is straightforward. Anganwadi workers and helpers are honorarium-based functionaries rather than regular government employees, so they do not receive a government pension or gratuity when they stop working. Many of them serve for two or three decades, running a village Anganwadi centre, delivering supplementary nutrition, weighing children, keeping immunisation records and supporting pregnant and lactating mothers, and then leave at 60 with no terminal payment at all. The welfare fund is the state's answer: a pool built from the workers' own small monthly deposits, topped up by the state, out of which a lump sum is released at the end of service.

Main features

  • Applies to Anganwadi workers, mini-Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi helpers of Uttarakhand.
  • Benefit is released on attaining 60 years of age, when the worker leaves service.
  • Contributory. The worker deposits a fixed amount every month during service.
  • Paid as a single lump sum, not as a monthly pension.
  • Administered by the Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development through CDPO offices.

Who is eligible for the Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund?

You are eligible if:

  • You are a permanent resident of Uttarakhand.
  • You are an Anganwadi worker, mini-Anganwadi worker or Anganwadi helper in the state's ICDS network.
  • You have attained the age of 60 years and are leaving, or have left, service on that ground.
  • You have been depositing the prescribed monthly contribution into the welfare fund during your service.

You are not eligible and cannot claim if:

  • You are not a resident of Uttarakhand or were not engaged as an Anganwadi worker, mini-worker or helper in the state.
  • You are below 60 years of age and still in service, since the payment is a terminal benefit tied to leaving service at 60.
  • You worked in a private crèche, a non-government childcare centre or an NGO programme rather than in a government Anganwadi centre.
  • Your engagement was ended on disciplinary grounds and the department has not cleared your terminal dues, in which case the CDPO office will tell you what has to be settled first.

There is no income limit and no separate caste or category condition attached to this fund. The two things that decide the claim are the worker's status in the Anganwadi system and the completion of 60 years of age. The length of service does not decide whether you get paid, it decides how much.

How much does the Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund pay?

Two sets of figures are in circulation and it is worth keeping them separate.

The published slab. According to the scheme description carried on the national myScheme portal for Uttarakhand, the fund pays a minimum of Rs 30,000, rising to Rs 1,30,000 for a worker who has completed 20 years of service, with a provision for an increase of 5 per cent per year on the deposited amount. In practice this means two workers retiring in the same month can receive very different sums depending on how long they served and how much had accumulated against their names.

The enhanced payment announced for 2026. Uttarakhand press reports of November 2025 and 2026 describe the Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development revising the fund upward so that a retiring Anganwadi worker receives a minimum of about Rs 1 lakh, with the higher slabs reported to run up to roughly Rs 4 lakh for very long service. The reports state that workers retiring from 1 April 2026 onwards are covered, that the monthly contribution moves from Rs 100 to Rs 300, and that around 38,000 to 40,000 workers and helpers in the state are affected.

Because the revised slab has been reported through press statements rather than published as a scheme table on the department portal, treat the Rs 30,000 to Rs 1,30,000 range as the confirmed published position and the higher figures as the announced revision, and confirm your own entitlement with your CDPO office before you plan around a number.

How to apply for the Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund

  1. Confirm your date of leaving service. Check with your supervisor and the Child Development Project Officer that your date of attaining 60 years and the corresponding date of leaving service are correctly recorded.
  2. Collect the claim form from the CDPO office. The Child Development Project Officer's office for your block is the designated point for this fund. Ask for the welfare fund claim form and the list of enclosures currently required.
  3. Attach the documents. Retirement or leaving-service proof, Aadhaar, Uttarakhand residence proof, age proof, service record and a copy of the bank passbook showing account number and IFSC in your own name.
  4. Submit the claim to the CDPO and take an acknowledgement. Keep a photocopy of the complete set along with the receiving stamp and date.
  5. Follow the file through the District Programme Officer. The CDPO office verifies your service and contribution record and forwards the case to the District Programme Officer and the directorate for sanction.
  6. Check the credit in your bank account. The sanctioned amount is released by transfer, so verify the credit in the passbook or statement rather than waiting for a separate letter.

How do I check the status of my claim?

Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund claims are processed through the department's own offices, so the status check is offline. The CDPO office that received your papers is the first point of contact and can tell you whether the case has been verified and forwarded. If the file has moved on, the District Programme Officer (DPO) for your district holds it next. Contact details for CDPOs and DPOs are published as PDFs on wecd.uk.gov.in, which is the practical way to find the right office number if you have shifted district after retirement.

Keep the acknowledgement you received when submitting the claim. Almost every delay that Anganwadi retirees report is traced back to a claim that cannot be located because no receiving date was recorded.

Why do claims get delayed or rejected?

  • Service record incomplete; gaps or missing appointment records make it hard to fix the number of years served, and the years decide the slab.
  • Date of birth mismatch, the age recorded in the service file differs from Aadhaar or the school certificate, so the date of attaining 60 is disputed.
  • Bank details wrong or in a joint name. The transfer fails and the case returns to the project office.
  • Contribution not deposited for part of the service period. The amount payable is reduced or the case is held while the shortfall is worked out.
  • Claim filed at the wrong office — applications sent to a district office rather than routed through the CDPO tend to sit unactioned.

Most of these are record problems rather than eligibility bars. A worker who checks her date of birth and service entries in the project register a year before turning 60, and corrects them then, avoids nearly all of them.

Help and grievance redressal

  • Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), your block, receives the claim and answers the first level of queries.
  • District Programme Officer (DPO), your district. The next level if the CDPO office cannot resolve it.
  • Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development, Uttarakhand, wecd.uk.gov.in carries CDPO and DPO contact lists and a feedback form; the directorate in Dehradun is the final departmental authority for the fund.

No separate helpline number is published for this welfare fund. Uttarakhand's Anganwadi worker unions are also active on the subject and are often the fastest source of information on where a batch of claims currently stands. There is no fee for filing a claim, and no official or agent should ask for money to process a retirement payment that is built out of the worker's own deposits.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund in Uttarakhand?

Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund is a contributory social security scheme of the Uttarakhand Department of Women Empowerment and Child Development that pays a one-time amount to Anganwadi workers, mini-workers and helpers when they leave service on attaining 60 years of age. Workers pay a small monthly contribution into the fund during service and draw the accumulated benefit at the end.

How much money does an Anganwadi worker get from the fund?

Under the published slab a minimum of Rs 30,000 is paid, rising to Rs 1,30,000 for a worker who completes 20 years of service, with a provision for a 5 per cent yearly increase on the deposited amount. The state government has announced an enhanced retirement payment starting at about Rs 1 lakh for workers retiring on or after 1 April 2026.

Who is eligible for the Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund?

A permanent resident of Uttarakhand who works as an Anganwadi worker, mini-Anganwadi worker or Anganwadi helper and has attained the age of 60 years is eligible. The benefit is tied to leaving service at 60, so a serving worker below that age cannot draw it.

Where do I apply for the Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund?

Apply at the office of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) for your project block. The CDPO office is the point where the service record, contribution record and retirement papers are held, and it forwards the claim to the District Programme Officer and the department.

Is there a monthly contribution to pay?

Yes, the fund is contributory. Anganwadi workers deposit a fixed monthly amount into it during service; Uttarakhand news reports of November 2025 and 2026 describe the contribution moving from Rs 100 to Rs 300 a month alongside the higher retirement payment. Confirm the current figure with your CDPO office.

Do Anganwadi helpers and mini-workers get the benefit too?

Yes. The fund covers Anganwadi workers, mini-Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi helpers of the state, not only full Anganwadi workers. The amount depends on the years of service completed and the contributions deposited.

Is this the same as a monthly pension?

No. The Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund pays a one-time lump sum at the end of service, not a monthly pension. Proposals for a regular pension for Anganwadi personnel have been discussed in Uttarakhand, but the welfare fund described here remains a single terminal payment.
