What is the CIFE Institutional Fellowship?

CIFE Institutional Fellowship is a fellowship of the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai, a deemed university under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Who is eligible for the CIFE Institutional Fellowship?

How to check your CIFE Institutional Fellowship status

There is no separate online tracking portal for this fellowship, because it is not a scheme with an application ID or a benefit-disbursal dashboard. Status checks happen at two different stages:

1. Before admission, check your AICE-JRF/SRF result. The entrance result and merit list are published by the ICAR Education Division, not by CIFE. Watch the ICAR Education Division's notifications and the CIFE website, cife.edu.in, around the admission season for the result and the counselling schedule.
2. After admission, check fellowship status through the CIFE academic section. Once you are admitted and have submitted your declaration of no other fellowship, your eligibility for the institutional fellowship is confirmed as part of your student record at CIFE, not through a separate reference number.
3. For stipend and contingency-grant credit, follow up with the CIFE accounts or academic section directly. Since payment goes to the bank account you registered at admission, the fastest way to confirm a particular month's credit is a bank statement check, followed by a query to the institute if a payment appears delayed.
4. Use your student/registration number as the reference for any query. When writing to CIFE about fellowship status, quote your programme (M.F.Sc. or PhD), batch year and registration number, since the institute does not issue a fellowship-specific tracking ID.

Because this is an institutional stipend administered internally rather than a government portal-based disbursal, the practical channel for any status question is the CIFE administration itself rather than an online tracker.

Common reasons the CIFE Institutional Fellowship is not granted

• Not admitted to CIFE. The fellowship is available only to students already admitted to CIFE's M.F.Sc. or PhD programme. Applying for or asking about the fellowship without first clearing the ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF entrance and securing a CIFE seat cannot succeed; the fix is to appear for and qualify the entrance examination in the relevant admission cycle.
• Already holding another fellowship. Since the institutional fellowship exists specifically for students with no other funding, a student who is drawing an ICAR JRF/SRF or an external scholarship (UGC, DBT, ICMR, or similar) is not extended the institutional fellowship. If your other fellowship ends or you choose to give it up, inform CIFE in writing so your eligibility for the institutional fellowship can be reassessed.
• Missing or incomplete declaration of no other fellowship. CIFE relies on the student's own declaration at the time of registration. Not submitting this declaration, or submitting it late, can delay or hold up the start of stipend payments; the fix is to complete and file the declaration with the academic section as soon as you register.
• Bank details not provided or incorrect. Since the stipend and contingency grant are credited directly to the student's account, an unregistered account, a closed account, or a mismatch between the name on the account and the admission record will stop the payment from going through even though eligibility is otherwise in order. Provide a valid, active bank passbook copy at registration and update CIFE immediately if you change your account.
• Unsatisfactory academic progress. Continuation of the fellowship through the programme depends on maintaining the academic standing CIFE requires. Falling behind on coursework, research milestones, or attendance can put continued payment at risk; regular contact with your supervisor and the academic section on your progress record is the practical safeguard.
• Programme duration exceeded. The fellowship is tied to the normal duration of the programme, about two years for the M.F.Sc. and three years for the PhD. Payments are not automatically guaranteed beyond this period if the degree is not completed on time, so students nearing the end of their sanctioned duration should check with CIFE well in advance about any extension terms.
