What is the CIFE Institutional Fellowship?

CIFE Institutional Fellowship is a fellowship of the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), Mumbai, a deemed university under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. According to CIFE, the institutional fellowship supports postgraduate and doctoral students admitted to its fisheries-science programmes who do not hold any other fellowship, so that a lack of external funding does not stop a qualified student from pursuing higher study and research.

Who is eligible for the CIFE Institutional Fellowship?

• You maintain satisfactory academic progress as required by CIFE.

You cannot get it if:

• You are not admitted to CIFE, the fellowship is institutional and follows admission, so there is no route to it from outside the institute.
• You already hold another fellowship; the institutional fellowship is specifically for students who do not.
• You have not qualified the ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF entrance and therefore cannot gain admission to the programme.

There is no general public application. The fellowship is not a benefit an ordinary citizen can claim; it is available only to students who first clear the national entrance examination and secure a seat at CIFE.

The institutional fellowship is reached through the admission process, not through a separate benefit application:

1. Appear for the ICAR AICE (All India Competitive Examination) for JRF/SRF conducted by the ICAR Education Division, usually held in the admission season.
2. Qualify and secure admission to a Master's (M.F.Sc.) or PhD programme at ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, through the counselling / allotment process.
3. Register at CIFE and declare whether you already hold any other fellowship. Students who do not hold one are extended the institutional fellowship.
4. Provide your bank details to CIFE so the monthly stipend and contingency grant can be credited during the programme.
