What is the educational instruments assistance scheme in Gujarat?

Assistance for Purchase of Educational Instruments for Medical, Engineering and Technical Diploma Courses is run by the Tribal Development Department, Government of Gujarat. The scheme gives Scheduled Tribe students a fixed annual grant to buy the instruments their professional course requires, the dissection set and stethoscope of a medical student, the drawing and surveying instruments of an engineering student, the workshop tools of a diploma student.

Who is eligible for this scheme?

You can apply if:

• You are a resident of Gujarat.
• You belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category and hold a caste certificate from the competent authority.
• You have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC / Std. 12) examination.
• You are enrolled in a recognised medical, engineering or technical diploma course.
• Your annual family income does not exceed Rs 6,00,000.

You cannot apply if:

• You are not a Scheduled Tribe student. The scheme is closed to Scheduled Caste, SEBC, OBC and general category students.
• Your annual family income is above Rs 6,00,000.
• You are enrolled in an unrecognised institution or an unapproved course.
• Your course is not a medical, engineering or technical diploma course. General arts, commerce and science degrees are not covered by this particular scheme.
• You are a resident of another state.
• You have already submitted another application for the same scholarship in the same year. Only one application per student is accepted, whether from a single institute or from more than one.

How much assistance is given?

The amounts are fixed by course type, not reimbursed against bills. A medical student receives Rs 15,000 for the year whether the instruments cost more or less. The grant is credited directly to the student's own bank account, which is why a passbook or cancelled cheque in the student's name is a mandatory document.

Because the benefit is annual, a five-and-a-half-year MBBS student can draw the grant in each year of the course, subject to applying each year and continuing to satisfy the income and enrolment conditions. Nothing carries forward automatically; a year you do not apply for is a year you do not receive.

What documents are required?

Get the income certificate refreshed before each year's application. A certificate issued two or three years earlier is the item most often queried when the application is scrutinised, because the ceiling is a current-income test.

How to apply for the educational instruments assistance

1. Open the Digital Gujarat portal at digitalgujarat.gov.in.
2. Click Register on the home page, enter your mobile number, email address and a password, then click Save.
3. Log in with your user name. The mobile number or email you registered, and your password.
4. Open My Profile, fill in all the mandatory information, and click Update Profile. Confirm with the OTP sent to your mobile number. The scholarship forms do not open until the profile is complete.
5. Under Services, select Scholarship Services, then the scheme group for your category.
6. Select the financial year you are applying for and click Change Financial Year.
7. Choose this scheme, read the instructions carefully, and click Continue to Service.
8. Fill the application form completely and upload every required document, including the photograph.
9. Click Save as Draft, accept the terms and conditions, then submit with Confirm & Final Submit.
10. Save the application number shown on the acknowledgement and print a copy for your records.

Important instructions from the portal: photograph upload is mandatory for every applicant; an application is treated as complete only when every section has been filled; and only one application per applicant is accepted for a scholarship. Submitting more than one application, from the same institute or from different institutions, can lead to all of them being rejected.

How do I check my application status?

1. Log in to digitalgujarat.gov.in with your registered credentials.
2. Open the application tracking section of the scholarship services dashboard.
3. Look up your application number to see whether it is with the institute, with the verifying officer, sanctioned, or returned with a query.

If a query is raised, correct the flagged document and resubmit within the time the portal allows. An unanswered query at the end of the financial-year cycle is usually treated as a closed application rather than a pending one.

Why applications get rejected

• Income certificate above Rs 6,00,000 or too old to be accepted.
• Course or institution not recognised, which is an outright disqualification.
• Caste certificate not issued by a Gujarat competent authority.
• Bank account not in the student's own name, which blocks the credit.
• Name mismatch between Aadhaar, the marksheet and the bank record.
• Duplicate applications by the same student in one year.
• Incomplete profile or an application saved as a draft and never finally submitted.
• Missing previous-year marksheet for a continuing student.

Most of these are correctable. Fix the underlying document at source — Mamlatdar office for income and caste certificates, the bank for account-name problems: rather than resubmitting the same file.

When should I apply?

The scheme has no published statutory last date. Applications are accepted through the annual scholarship window on the Digital Gujarat portal, which is organised by financial year. Apply as soon as your admission is confirmed and the window for that financial year opens, and always check that the correct financial year is selected before you fill the form. Waiting until the end of the academic year risks the window closing.
