Assistance to Farmers for Mini Tractor and Power Tiller in Farm Mechanization Program
Gujarat state government scheme
Assistance to Farmers for Mini Tractor and Power Tiller is a Gujarat farm mechanization subsidy that pays up to Rs 45,000 to a general category farmer and up to Rs 60,000 to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe farmer buying a mini tractor up to 20 HP or a power tiller. Farmers apply on the iKhedut portal.
What is the mini tractor and power tiller assistance scheme?
Assistance to Farmers for Mini Tractor and Power Tiller in Farm Mechanization Program is a capital subsidy of the Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation Department, Government of Gujarat, delivered through the Directorate of Agriculture and listed on the iKhedut portal under Agricultural Schemes. The scheme pays part of the price of a mini tractor of up to 20 horsepower or a power tiller, and the amount depends on two things. The size of the machine and the social category of the buyer.
The problem it addresses is the shape of landholding in Gujarat. A large share of the state's cultivators work holdings of one to three hectares. A full-size 45 HP tractor is both physically unsuitable for those plots and financially out of reach. A mini tractor or a power tiller does the ploughing, puddling, rotavating and transport work such a holding needs at a fraction of the capital cost, but even that fraction is a serious sum for a small farmer, and hiring in custom services eats the margin every season. A subsidy of 40 to 50 per cent turns the purchase into a realistic decision.
Key features
- State-funded mechanization subsidy under the farm mechanization programme.
- Covers mini tractors up to 20 HP and power tillers, both above and below 8 BHP.
- Assistance of Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000, or 40 to 50 per cent of cost, whichever is less.
- Higher rate for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe farmers.
- Filed online on iKhedut, with a signed printout submitted at the taluka office.
How much subsidy do you get on a mini tractor or power tiller?
| Machine | General category | SC / ST |
|---|---|---|
| Mini tractor up to 20 HP | Rs 45,000 or 40% of cost, whichever is less | Rs 60,000 or 50% of cost, whichever is less |
| Power tiller above 8 BHP | Rs 45,000 or 40% of cost, whichever is less | Rs 60,000 or 50% of cost, whichever is less |
| Power tiller below 8 BHP | Rs 40,000 or 40% of cost, whichever is less | Rs 50,000 or 50% of cost, whichever is less |
The phrase "whichever is less" is what decides most claims, and it is worth working through with real numbers. A general category farmer who buys a mini tractor invoiced at Rs 2,50,000 does not get Rs 1,00,000; 40 per cent is Rs 1,00,000 but the cap is Rs 45,000, so Rs 45,000 is paid. A Scheduled Tribe farmer who buys a power tiller below 8 BHP invoiced at Rs 80,000 gets 50 per cent, that is Rs 40,000, because Rs 40,000 is less than the Rs 50,000 cap.
The 8 BHP line on power tillers matters too. A machine of exactly 8 BHP or below sits in the lower slab. Check the horsepower printed on the manufacturer's plate and on the invoice before you buy, because the department reads the invoice and not the salesman's description.
Rates and unit costs under the farm mechanization programme are re-notified each financial year, so the figures shown against the component on iKhedut in the year you apply are the figures that bind.
Who is eligible for the mini tractor and power tiller subsidy?
You can apply if:
- You are a resident of Gujarat and a farmer engaged in agricultural practice.
- You hold land in your own name, evidenced by the 7/12 and 8-A extract.
- You require mechanization support and intend to buy a mini tractor up to 20 HP or a power tiller above or below 8 BHP.
- You have a bank account in your own name for the direct benefit transfer.
- For the higher rate, you can produce a valid Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe certificate.
You cannot apply if:
- You are not a resident of Gujarat, or your land lies outside the state.
- You cannot produce a land record establishing that you are a farmer.
- You want a subsidy on a tractor above 20 HP, that machine is not eligible under this component.
- You have already bought the machine before sanction; a purchase made ahead of the sanction order is normally not eligible.
- You claim the SC or ST rate but cannot produce a caste certificate.
- You have drawn the same component within the cooling-off period the department applies to mechanization items; iKhedut blocks a repeat claim on the same machine class within that period.
What documents are required?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 7/12 and 8-A land extract | Yes | Establishes farmer status and the holding's taluka |
| Aadhaar card | Yes | Identity, and matching with land and bank records |
| Bank passbook or cancelled cheque | Yes | Name must match the applicant exactly |
| Quotation or invoice from an approved dealer | Yes | Make, model and horsepower must be stated |
| Caste certificate | If claiming SC/ST rate | Issued by the Mamlatdar or competent authority |
| Ration card | Usually | Residence proof attached to the printed form |
Buy only from a dealer handling a make and model on the department's approved list. A machine outside that list can be perfectly good and still be ineligible for subsidy, and no appeal fixes that after the purchase.

How to apply without using a computer
Assistance to Farmers for Mini Tractor and Power Tiller has no purely paper route — the application has to originate on iKhedut. Three practical options exist.
- Go to the Village Computer Entrepreneur (VCE) at the gram panchayat e-Gram centre and have the form filled there.
- Use a Common Service Centre or an authorised cyber café and collect the printout.
- Ask the Gram Sevak or the taluka Extension Officer (Agriculture) to identify the correct component and help with the paperwork.
How to check your application status
- Open ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in and go to the Applicant Corner.
- Enter your application number and registered mobile number.
- The screen shows whether the application is pending, sanctioned or rejected, and lets you view, reprint or upload documents against it.
- Once sanctioned, watch for the pre-sanction letter before you pay the dealer anything.
- If nothing moves for several weeks after the window closes, follow up in person at the taluka agriculture office with your printed application.
Why mini tractor subsidy applications get rejected
- Machine bought before sanction. The commonest and costliest error; the farmer pays in full and then discovers the claim cannot be entertained.
- Printout never submitted at the taluka office after online confirmation.
- Horsepower above the ceiling, a tractor over 20 HP, however small it looks.
- Model not on the approved list, so the purchase cannot be certified.
- Caste certificate missing while the higher SC or ST rate is claimed.
- Bank account name mismatch. A maiden name on the passbook against a married name on Aadhaar stops the transfer.
- Annual target exhausted. iKhedut mechanization components run against district-wise targets, and applications are ranked; a valid application can simply be carried to the next year's list.
Where to get help
- Taluka agriculture office; first point of contact for the current window, targets, sanction status and verification.
- District Agriculture Officer for escalation when a taluka-level objection is not resolved.
- iKhedut Applicant Corner for login, application-number and document upload problems.
- Mari Yojana (mariyojana.gujarat.gov.in), the state's citizen scheme directory, where this component is listed as scheme number 83.
Because the rate, the target and the window are re-notified every financial year, read the scheme text shown on iKhedut for the current year before you place an order. The Rs 45,000 and Rs 60,000 caps are what the state currently publishes, and both are subject to revision in a later year's resolution.

Frequently asked questions
How much subsidy does Gujarat give on a mini tractor?
A general category farmer gets Rs 45,000 or 40 per cent of the cost of a mini tractor up to 20 HP, whichever is less, and a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe farmer gets Rs 60,000 or 50 per cent, whichever is less. Power tillers above 8 BHP are paid at the same two rates.
What is the subsidy on a power tiller below 8 BHP?
A power tiller below 8 BHP carries a lower cap — Rs 40,000 or 40 per cent of cost for a general category farmer and Rs 50,000 or 50 per cent for a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe farmer, whichever is less in each case.
Who is eligible for the mini tractor and power tiller assistance?
A farmer resident in Gujarat who is engaged in agriculture and intends to buy a mini tractor up to 20 HP or a power tiller above or below 8 BHP is eligible. The published eligibility does not set an income ceiling, but a land record in the applicant's name is what establishes farmer status.
Can I buy the tractor first and claim the subsidy afterwards?
No, that is the single commonest way farmers lose the money. The iKhedut sequence is application, then sanction, then purchase from an approved dealer, then verification, then payment — a machine bought before sanction is normally disallowed.
Does a tractor above 20 HP qualify?
No. This component is capped at mini tractors of up to 20 HP. Larger tractors fall outside it, though the Directorate of Agriculture runs separate implement and mechanization components on iKhedut for other machinery.
Where do I apply for the mini tractor subsidy?
Apply online at ikhedut.gujarat.gov.in under Schemes, then Agricultural Schemes, during the window notified for the financial year. After confirming the application you must print it, sign it and submit it with your documents at the taluka agriculture office.
Is there any fee to apply?
No. Applying on iKhedut is free, and no official or dealer is authorised to charge a commission for getting a subsidy sanctioned. A small notified data entry charge at a Village Computer Entrepreneur counter is a separate, legitimate service fee.
How long does the subsidy take to reach the bank account?
Payment follows physical verification of the purchased machine, so the time depends on when the field staff inspect it and when the district's funds are released. Keep the original invoice, the chassis and engine numbers and the registration papers ready to speed that check up.
