Kisan Credit Card: Why Applications Get Rejected and How to Fix It
Most Kisan Credit Card rejections come down to one of five things: an unverifiable land record, no accepted tenancy proof, an existing loan default, missing Aadhaar, or a requested limit above the district Scale of Finance. This article, a companion to the main Kisan Credit Card guide, takes each reason in turn and gives the fix, plus the grievance route when the branch will not move. The KCC limit is fixed by the bank branch against your verified land record, no agent can arrange a sanction.
Reason 1: Land record does not match or is not verifiable
The most common KCC rejection is a mismatch between the revenue record (khasra, khatauni, patta) and the applicant's name, or an unresolved partition where the land still stands in a deceased parent's name.
Fix: Get the record mutated into your name at the revenue/tehsil office before re-applying. Where land is jointly held, bring the co-owners' consent or apply jointly. Carry the latest record of rights so the bank can verify it against the revenue authority.
Reason 2: No accepted proof of tenancy
Tenant farmers, oral lessees and sharecroppers are eligible for KCC, but a bank will decline if the tenancy cannot be documented in a form it accepts. This is the practical barrier in most states.
Fix: Obtain a written lease agreement or a state-recognised tenancy/cultivation certificate. Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) of tenant farmers are an accepted route where individual tenancy proof is hard to produce: ask the branch about forming or joining a JLG.
Reason 3: Existing default or weak credit record
An agricultural loan classified as a default at the same or another bank will stop a KCC sanction at the appraisal stage, even if paperwork is complete.
Fix: Clear or regularise the earlier account, obtain a no-dues certificate, and let the credit bureau record update before re-applying. There is no shortcut here. The bank's appraisal governs.
Reason 4: Aadhaar not submitted to the bank
Aadhaar submission to the bank is mandatory to receive interest subvention. A farmer without Aadhaar on the bank record may still get a loan, but will not get the 3% prompt-repayment incentive or the subvention, and some banks decline outright.
Fix: Submit your Aadhaar and ensure the name matches your other KYC documents. A PAN–Aadhaar mismatch also stops the automated verification, so correct any spelling difference first.
Reason 5: Requested limit exceeds the Scale of Finance
Your KCC limit is not a number you choose; banks compute it from the Scale of Finance notified for your district and crop, multiplied by your cultivated area, plus allowances. Asking for more than that formula supports gets the excess trimmed or the application returned.
Fix: Ask the branch for the current Scale of Finance for your crop and district, and apply for a limit within it. The interest-subvention ceiling has covered loans up to Rs 3 lakh, with Budget 2025-26 announcing a rise to Rs 5 lakh — confirm which limit your bank currently applies.
Reason 6: Incomplete or unreadable documents
Blurred or missing uploads on the online route (jansamarth.in or the bank's website) are a frequent, avoidable cause of return.
Fix: Upload clear scans of Aadhaar, land records and a passport-size photograph within the size limit shown on the upload screen, and respond promptly when the branch contacts you for verification.
How to fix a rejection: step by step
- Ask the branch for the specific reason in writing; do not accept a verbal "not eligible".
- Correct the underlying issue: mutate the land record, document the tenancy, clear the default, or add Aadhaar.
- Re-apply at the same branch, or use the simplified one-page form if you are a PM-KISAN beneficiary, since your land and Aadhaar are already verified.
- Note the fresh application reference number and track it.
Where to escalate
- Your bank branch is the first point of contact for the rejection reason and for limit revision.
- Banking Ombudsman under the RBI Integrated Ombudsman Scheme handles complaints the bank does not resolve in 30 days.
- PM-KISAN helpline 155261 for KCC applications routed through the PM-KISAN saturation drive.
- jansamarth.in grievance tracking for applications filed through that portal.
FAQ
The bank says my land record is fine but still rejected me, why? Check for an existing default or a Scale-of-Finance overshoot; both stop a sanction independently of land verification.
Can I re-apply immediately after a rejection? Yes. There is no waiting period. Fix the cited reason first, or the same rejection repeats.
Does rejection affect my credit score? A rejection alone is recorded as an enquiry; an actual default on an earlier loan is what damages the record. Regularise any existing default before re-applying.
