Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0: Why Registration Fails and How to Fix It

Registration under Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 usually fails for one of four reasons: the beneficiary falls outside the eligible category or age band, Aadhaar cannot be verified on the Poshan Tracker, the family lives outside that Anganwadi centre's catchment, or no growth record has been entered. None of these is a permanent bar. The scheme delivers food and services, not cash, so "rejection" means an entitlement is not yet recorded, fix the record and it starts.

For eligible categories, nutrition norms and the six-service package, read our main Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0 guide. This article covers only what to do when registration or ration delivery does not happen.

Why registration is refused or stalls

1. The beneficiary is outside an eligible category. Poshan 2.0 covers children aged 6 months to 6 years, pregnant women and lactating mothers everywhere, and adolescent girls aged 14 to 18 only in Aspirational Districts and all North Eastern districts. An adolescent girl outside those areas, a girl below 14 or above 18, or a child over six years falls outside the scheme.

Fix: Confirm the correct programme. School-going children over six are covered by PM POSHAN under the Ministry of Education, not by Poshan 2.0. There is no error to correct here, the beneficiary belongs to a different scheme.

2. Aadhaar cannot be verified on the Poshan Tracker. Registration is recorded on the Poshan Tracker, and Aadhaar of the beneficiary (and of the mother or guardian for a child under six) is used. A name or date-of-birth mismatch, an un-updated Aadhaar, or a failed verification blocks the entry.

Fix: Update Aadhaar so name and date of birth match the details given, then ask the Anganwadi Worker to retry. Do not abandon registration. The record is what creates the entitlement.

3. You are outside that centre's catchment. Every Anganwadi centre has an 11-digit code and serves a defined locality. Registering at a centre that does not cover your address is refused.

Fix: Ask the ward member, ASHA worker or Gram Panchayat office which centre covers your address, and register there. If you have moved, register afresh at the new centre.

4. No growth-monitoring record exists. The higher Rs 12 per day norm for a severely malnourished child is triggered by height and weight recorded on the Poshan Tracker. Without a growth record, a child cannot be moved to the enhanced norm.

Fix: Attend growth-monitoring sessions so measurements are entered. Identification of severe malnutrition, and the higher norm, follow from that record.

When registration is done but benefits still do not arrive

The guidelines are explicit that only beneficiaries registered at the Anganwadi centre are entitled to supplementary nutrition, and that at registration the worker must explain the entitlement and the Take-Home Ration or Hot Cooked Meal schedule. If you are registered but not receiving food:

  • Take-Home Ration not distributed on schedule: raise it with the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) for your project.
  • Child aged 3 to 6 not getting the Hot Cooked Meal, confirm the child is registered in the 3-to-6 category, since that band receives HCM plus a morning snack at the centre.
  • Ration consumed by other family members. The guidelines require age-specific labelling to prevent this; report misuse to the supervisor.
  • Wrong category recorded — a pregnant woman registered as something else, or a child in the wrong age band, gets the wrong entitlement. Ask the worker to correct the category on the Poshan Tracker.

How to fix a registration problem, step by step

  1. Ask the Anganwadi Worker for the exact reason the registration or ration is not going through, category, Aadhaar verification, catchment, or a missing measurement.
  2. Correct the underlying record: update Aadhaar, move to the correct catchment centre, or attend growth monitoring, rather than re-attempting the same failing entry.
  3. Re-register under the correct category on the Poshan Tracker with the Anganwadi Worker.
  4. Escalate to the Supervisor and then the CDPO at project level if the centre cannot resolve it.
  5. Go higher to the District Programme Officer (DPO) and District Nutrition Committee for unresolved cases.

Where to escalate

  • Anganwadi Worker and Supervisor, first point of contact at the centre.
  • Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), at project level.
  • District Programme Officer (DPO) and the District Nutrition Committee.
  • Women Helpline: 181 and Childline: 1098.
  • Ministry of Women and Child Development: wcd.gov.in for scheme guidelines and orders.

FAQ

Can I register online for Poshan 2.0? No. There is no online application form. Registration is done in person by the Anganwadi Worker, who creates the record on the Poshan Tracker.

Is Aadhaar mandatory to register? The guidelines list Aadhaar of the beneficiary, and of the mother or guardian for a child under six, as required for Poshan Tracker registration. Update Aadhaar rather than skip it.

My child was not weighed and missed the higher norm, what now? Attend growth monitoring so measurements are recorded; the severe-malnutrition norm follows from the Poshan Tracker entry, not from a separate application.

All Poshan 2.0 services are free. No Anganwadi Worker or official may charge for registration, Take-Home Ration or a Hot Cooked Meal.
