Registering on National Career Service (NCS) takes a jobseeker four things: a working mobile number for OTP verification, an email address, basic personal details and a completed profile. There is no fee, no income ceiling and no age bar; NCS is the free job portal of the Ministry of Labour and Employment at www.ncs.gov.in. Before you start: what to keep ready

• A mobile number you control: registration is OTP-verified against it, and a person with no working mobile number cannot complete online sign-up.
• An email address and a password you will remember.
• Educational certificates to fill the qualification section accurately (not uploaded to register, but needed for a complete profile).
• Optional but useful: Aadhaar (helps verify identity and link to other government platforms), experience certificates, and NSQF or Skill India Digital Hub certificates.

Step 1: Open the portal and choose the right account type

1. Open www.ncs.gov.in.
2. Click Register.
3. Choose the Jobseeker account type. NCS has separate registration types for employers, placement organisations, skill providers, counsellors and local service providers; pick Jobseeker if you are looking for work. Choosing the wrong type sends you into a form built for a different user.

Step 2: Enter your personal details

1. Enter your full name exactly as on your certificates.
2. Enter your date of birth; there is no age bar, but the field must be accurate for age-appropriate matching.
3. Enter your mobile number and email address.
4. Set a password.

Step 3: Verify the OTP

1. NCS sends a one-time password to the mobile number you entered.
2. Enter the OTP to verify. If it does not arrive, confirm the number is correct and active; a wrong or already-registered number is the most common sign-up block.

Step 4: Build your profile, the part that actually matters

Job matching on NCS is driven by profile data, so a complete profile is what surfaces you in employer searches. Fill every section:

1. Education: qualifications, institutions and years. Keep your certificates handy for accuracy.
2. Skills; list the specific skills employers search on; reflect any NSQF or SIDH certificates here.
3. Work experience — roles, employers and durations; experience certificates improve matching.
4. Preferred job role, the role you want, which anchors your matches.
5. Preferred location: set this carefully. Vacancy density varies sharply by state; the Ministry's July 2025 data showed Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Gujarat with the largest employer bases.
6. Expected salary, a realistic band widens your matches.

Step 5: Search and apply for jobs

1. Open Job Search.
2. Filter vacancies by role, sector, location, salary and employer type, NCS carries both private-sector and government-sector jobs, and local service provider work.
3. Apply to the vacancies that match. More than 3.43 crore vacancies were mobilised on the portal during FY 2025-26, according to the Ministry.

Step 6: Use job fairs and counselling

1. Check the Job Fairs section for online and offline recruitment drives near you and register for those you want to attend. Offline drives are announced at short notice by Model Career Centres, so re-check weekly.
2. Book a career counselling session with one of the 1,180-plus approved counsellors onboarded on the portal if you need help choosing a role or course.
3. Take the free employability enhancement, digital skill enhancement and self-paced career skill programmes before applying widely.

The offline route: registering at a Model Career Centre

If you cannot use the portal, no mobile number, or you would prefer in-person help; use a Model Career Centre. The government has approved 407 MCCs across the country in collaboration with states and institutions.

1. Locate the nearest Model Career Centre.
2. Carry your Aadhaar card, educational certificates and mobile phone.
3. Ask centre staff to complete your NCS jobseeker registration and build your profile.
4. Attend the counselling, orientation and workshop sessions the centre runs.
5. Register for the job fairs the MCC organises with local employers.

After you register

• Keep the profile current; update your preferred location and skills as they change; a half-filled profile appears in fewer searches.
