National Overseas Scholarship for ST Students: How to Check Application and Payment Status

This is a supporting guide for National Overseas Scholarship for ST Students (NOS-ST). See the main guide for full eligibility, benefits and documents.

National Overseas Scholarship for ST Students: How to Check Application and Payment Status

To check your National Overseas Scholarship for ST Students (NOS-ST) application, log in to overseas.tribal.gov.in with your registered credentials and open the application status section on your dashboard, where the file shows as under scrutiny, shortlisted or rejected. Because only 20 awards are given a year, "status" means where you sit in the scrutiny → shortlist → selection → disbursement journey: not a monthly payment date. NOS-ST is the Ministry of Tribal Affairs scholarship that funds full-time Masters, PhD and post-doctoral study abroad; this article covers only how to track your application and payments, not the eligibility (in short: notified ST/PVTG, family income up to Rs 6 lakh, at least 60% in the qualifying degree, below 35 years).

Where to check NOS-ST status

The single authoritative place is the scholarship portal overseas.tribal.gov.in. Keep ready:

  • The registered mobile number and login credentials you created at registration.
  • Your application number from the acknowledgement you downloaded after submitting.

There is no separate app or SMS-only tracker, the portal dashboard and its notices/results page are where every stage appears.

What the NOS-ST journey looks like

An NOS-ST application moves through distinct stages rather than a single approved/paid flag:

  1. Submitted / registered; your online application and uploads are lodged and an application number is generated.
  2. Under scrutiny. The scholarship division checks category certificate, income certificate, marks and the foreign offer letter against the guidelines.
  3. Shortlisted, eligible applications go to the ministry's selection committee, which ranks candidates on academic merit and the standing of the offered institution.
  4. Selected / awarded. The final selection list for the year is published on the portal's notices and results page.
  5. Disbursement: after you submit award acceptance, visa and joining documents, the ministry releases the tuition fee, air fare and first maintenance instalment.

Because there are only 20 awards (17 ST, 3 PVTG) in a cycle, the wait between "under scrutiny" and the published result is usually the selection-committee stage, not a query on your file.

Checking application status step by step

  1. Open overseas.tribal.gov.in and log in with your registered credentials.
  2. Go to the application status section on the dashboard to see whether the file is under scrutiny, shortlisted or rejected.
  3. Watch the notices and results page on the same portal, where the year's final selection list is published.
  4. Act on any document or discrepancy query flagged against your application without delay — an unresolved query can stall scrutiny.

Checking payment / disbursement status

NOS-ST pays in components; full tuition to the foreign institution, an annual maintenance allowance of USD 15,400, contingency of USD 1,532, plus air fare, visa fee and insurance, and instalments are released against satisfactory progress reports from the foreign institution.

  • After selection, disbursement begins only once your award acceptance, visa and joining documents are submitted and verified.
  • Subsequent maintenance instalments depend on the progress report the foreign institution sends; a missing or late report is the usual cause of a delayed instalment.
  • For a disbursement query, use the portal's help page (overseas.tribal.gov.in/Help.aspx), which lists the scholarship-division contacts for the current cycle.

If status is stuck, who to contact

  • Portal help page: overseas.tribal.gov.in/Help.aspx, the scholarship-division contacts for the running cycle.
  • Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi: 011-23383303.
  • CPGRAMS (pgportal.gov.in) to lodge a written grievance with a tracking number.

Quick FAQ

How long does selection take? It depends on the year's cycle and the selection-committee schedule; there is no fixed number of days. Watch the notices/results page for the published list.

I lost my application number: can I still check? Log in with your registered credentials on overseas.tribal.gov.in; the dashboard shows your application without needing the number typed in separately.

Is there a fee to check status or influence selection? No. Applying and status-checking are free, and no consultant can influence a selection-committee decision: no official will ask you for money or an OTP. For full eligibility and the document set, see the parent NOS-ST guide.
