PM Kisan Status / Beneficiary Check
PM Kisan status check is the free online utility on pmkisan.gov.in that tells a registered farmer whether the next Rs 2,000 instalment is on the way. Know Your Status shows 3 verification flags, e-KYC, land seeding and Aadhaar-bank seeding, and needs only a registration number and an OTP sent to the mobile number registered with PM-KISAN. The check takes about a minute.

What is the PM Kisan status check?
PM Kisan status check is the free self-service utility on the PM-KISAN portal run by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. It is not the scheme itself and not an application form. It is the lookup that tells an already registered farmer where their record stands and why an instalment may not have arrived.
PM-KISAN pays Rs 6,000 a year in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 to eligible land-holding farmer families through Direct Benefit Transfer. Payment is automatic once a beneficiary is approved, so when money does not arrive, the cause is almost always a pending verification on the farmer's record rather than a missed application. The status check is how you find out which one.
The Know Your Status screen reports three things:
- e-KYC, whether Aadhaar-based verification of the beneficiary is complete.
- Land seeding; whether the state revenue department has linked your verified land record to your PM-KISAN account.
- Aadhaar-bank seeding: whether your bank account is mapped to your Aadhaar number so that DBT can reach it.
Any one of these showing "No" will hold the instalment. All three showing "Yes" means the record is clean and the next cycle should credit automatically.
Who can use the PM Kisan status check?
You can use it if:
- You are already registered under PM-KISAN, whether through self-registration on the portal, a Common Service Centre, or state-level enrolment.
- You have your registration number, or the mobile number or Aadhaar number recorded in your PM-KISAN account, so the registration number can be retrieved.
- Your registered mobile number is working, since the portal sends an OTP to it.
You cannot use it if:
- You have never registered under PM-KISAN. There is nothing to look up, and the portal will return no record. Use New Farmer Registration instead.
- Your registered mobile number has changed or been lost and you have not updated it. Use the Update Mobile Number option in Farmers Corner first, or go through a Common Service Centre.
- You are trying to check someone else's status without their registration number and access to their OTP. The OTP requirement is deliberate, it stops third parties from pulling up a farmer's record.
The status check itself has no eligibility test. Eligibility questions: income tax payers, government employees, pensioners drawing Rs 10,000 or more, constitutional post holders and practising professionals are excluded — apply to the scheme, not to the lookup.
What do you need for a PM Kisan status check?
| Item | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PM-KISAN registration number | No | Fastest route; can be retrieved if forgotten |
| Registered mobile number | Yes | The OTP is sent here |
| Aadhaar number | No | Used to retrieve a forgotten registration number |
| Bank account details | No | Needed only to fix a bank seeding failure |
No documents are uploaded and nothing is submitted. The status check is a read-only lookup.
How to check PM Kisan status online
- Open the official portal at pmkisan.gov.in in a browser, or launch the PM-KISAN mobile app.
- Go to the Farmers Corner section on the home page.
- Select Know Your Status.
- Enter your registration number and the captcha shown on screen.
- Click Get OTP. An OTP is sent to the mobile number registered in your PM-KISAN record.
- Enter the OTP and submit. Your beneficiary status screen appears.
- Read the three verification flags: e-KYC, land seeding and Aadhaar-bank seeding, and the instalment history below them. Note any flag showing "No".
How to find your PM Kisan registration number
- On pmkisan.gov.in, open Farmers Corner and select Know Your Registration Number.
- Choose to search by mobile number or Aadhaar number, and enter the one recorded in your PM-KISAN account.
- Enter the captcha and request the OTP.
- Enter the OTP; the portal displays your registration number. Write it down. You will need it for every future status check.
How to check the PM Kisan beneficiary list for your village
- Open Farmers Corner on pmkisan.gov.in and select Beneficiary List.
- Choose your state, then district, sub-district, block and village from the dropdowns.
- Select Get Report. The portal returns the list of PM-KISAN beneficiaries recorded for that village.
This is the check to use when you want to confirm whether your name has been added at all, as opposed to tracking a specific instalment.
What does the PM Kisan status check cost?
Nothing. Checking your PM-KISAN status on pmkisan.gov.in or in the official PM-KISAN mobile app is entirely free, and so is retrieving your registration number and viewing the beneficiary list.
A Common Service Centre may charge a small government-notified service fee if you ask an operator to do the check and complete biometric e-KYC for you. That is the only legitimate charge in this process.
Be direct about the risk here: a large number of private websites and local agents advertise "PM Kisan status check" and "instalment release" services, sometimes charging several hundred rupees, sometimes collecting Aadhaar and bank details along the way. No agent can release an instalment. Instalments are released centrally once the three verification flags are clear. Anyone promising to speed this up, or asking for money to "add your name to the list", is either wasting your money or harvesting your data. Use only pmkisan.gov.in, and never share the OTP with a third party; no PM-KISAN official will ever ask for it.
Why is my PM Kisan instalment not showing?
- e-KYC not completed, the single most common cause. Complete it yourself through the e-KYC link in Farmers Corner using an Aadhaar-linked mobile for OTP, or through face authentication in the PM-KISAN mobile app, or biometrically at a Common Service Centre.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT credit cannot land. This is fixed at your bank branch, which maps the account to your Aadhaar through NPCI. Note that Aadhaar being linked to an account is not the same as the account being seeded for DBT.
- Name mismatch between your Aadhaar record and your bank record.
- Land seeding pending with the state revenue department. This is not something you can fix online: follow up with your patwari, tehsildar or the district agriculture office.
- Exclusion criteria triggered, for example an income tax return filed in the last assessment year, or a government job in the household.
- Duplicate claim by another member of the same family. PM-KISAN pays one benefit per family, defined as husband, wife and minor children.
- Account dormant or closed, in which case the transfer is returned even though the portal shows the instalment as released.
Corrections to your own registration details can be made through the Edit / Update Self Registration option in Farmers Corner. Missing details can be added through Update Missing Information.
How long does the status take to change after a fix?
Completing e-KYC updates the flag on the portal quickly, usually within a day or two. Land seeding depends on the state revenue department and can take considerably longer, since it involves verification of your land record rather than an online action by you. Bank seeding depends on your branch and the NPCI mapping cycle.
A correction made after an instalment cycle has already been processed will normally be reflected in the next cycle rather than triggering an immediate payment. PM-KISAN instalment cycles run roughly April to July, August to November, and December to March.
Where do I complain about a PM Kisan status problem?
- PM-KISAN helpline: 155261 or 011-24300606
- Helpdesk query form on pmkisan.gov.in, for a written grievance with a tracking reference
- Kisan e-Mitra chatbot on the portal, for common queries
- Search Point of Contact (POC) in Farmers Corner, to find the nodal officer for your district
- District agriculture office or state nodal officer, for land record and eligibility disputes that the portal cannot resolve
Where a farmer has received money they were not entitled to, PM-KISAN provides an Online Refund option and a Voluntary Surrender of PM Kisan Benefits option in Farmers Corner. Returning wrongly received instalments voluntarily avoids recovery proceedings later.
Who is eligible
PM-KISAN registration, the step that comes before any status check, has its own eligibility rules. These decide whether a farmer family can be added to the scheme at all, separate from the e-KYC, land seeding and bank seeding flags checked later.
Who qualifies:
- A farmer family that holds cultivable agricultural land in its name, defined as husband, wife and their minor children, counted as one unit for the benefit.
- Land records that are updated in the name of the family in state or Union Territory land records as on the applicable cut-off date used by that state.
- Both small and marginal farmers and larger land-holding farmer families; the scheme dropped its original 2-hectare ceiling and now covers all land-holding farmer families subject to the exclusion list below.
Who does not qualify (excluded categories):
- Any family with a member who is a former or serving holder of a constitutional post, or a former or serving Minister, MP, MLA, MLC, mayor or district panchayat chairperson.
- Any family with a member who is a serving or retired officer or employee of the central or state government, its ministries, PSUs or attached offices (Group D and multi-tasking staff are not excluded).
- Any family with a member who is a retired pensioner drawing a monthly pension of Rs 10,000 or more, excluding Group D and multi-tasking staff pensioners.
- Any family member who paid income tax in the last assessment year.
- Professionals registered with a body and practising, such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants and architects.
- Landowners whose land is recorded but who do not personally cultivate it, where the record does not vest in the farmer family itself (institutional landholders, for example).
Because eligibility is judged at the family level, one disqualifying member (a government job, a tax return, a pension over the threshold) blocks the whole family's registration, not just that member.
How to apply
Registration under PM-KISAN, as distinct from checking status, can be done two ways.
Online self-registration:
- Go to pmkisan.gov.in and open Farmers Corner on the home page.
- Select New Farmer Registration.
- Choose Rural Farmer Registration or Urban Farmer Registration as applicable, and enter your Aadhaar number and mobile number.
- Complete Aadhaar OTP verification.
- Fill in personal details, bank account details and land record details exactly as they appear in your state's land records.
- Submit the form. A registration number is generated. Note it down; it is what every later status check runs on.
- Complete e-KYC at the same time if the option is offered, since this is the most common cause of a stalled first instalment.
Offline, through a Common Service Centre (CSC) or local officials:
- Visit the nearest Common Service Centre, or approach the local patwari, revenue officer, or state nodal officer for PM-KISAN, since some states route registration through the agriculture department rather than self-service.
- Carry your Aadhaar card, land ownership documents, and bank passbook details so the operator can enter them directly.
- The CSC operator enters the details and completes biometric e-KYC on the spot; a government-notified fee may apply for this assisted service.
- Collect the registration number or acknowledgement generated at the end of the process.
After registration, the application passes to the village level, then the state or UT government, for verification of land records before the farmer is approved and instalments begin. This verification step is why a first instalment can take longer to arrive than later ones; the status check described elsewhere on this page is how you track it.
Common reasons for rejection
Applications are rejected or stay stuck in "pending" for reasons that are usually specific and fixable, rather than a generic error.
- Land record does not match the applicant's name. The most frequent rejection cause: PM-KISAN cross-checks the applicant against the state land record database, and any mismatch in spelling, a not-yet-updated inheritance, or land still recorded in a deceased relative's name will fail verification. Fix it by getting the land record (khatauni/khasra or equivalent) corrected and updated at the tehsil or revenue office first, then reapply or ask for re-verification.
- Aadhaar details do not match bank account details. A mismatch between the name on Aadhaar and the name on the bank account, or an account that is not Aadhaar-seeded, causes rejection even when the land record is fine. Fix it at the bank branch by correcting the name or completing Aadhaar seeding through NPCI mapping.
- Family member falls under an excluded category. Applications from families with a government employee, a pensioner above the threshold, an income tax payer or a practising professional in the household are rejected once this is detected, sometimes after payment has already started, triggering a recovery notice. There is no fix except correctly declaring the exclusion; concealing it risks recovery of amounts already paid.
- Duplicate registration within the same family. PM-KISAN pays one benefit per family unit (husband, wife, minor children); a second application by a spouse or the same landholding registered twice is rejected as duplicate. Fix it by withdrawing the duplicate entry through the state nodal officer rather than leaving two live applications.
- Institutional or non-cultivator landholding. Land held by a trust, company, or an owner who does not fall within the farmer-family definition used by the scheme is not eligible, and such applications are rejected at the land-verification stage.
- Incomplete or unverifiable bank details. An inactive account, a closed account, or an account number entered incorrectly at registration causes the application to stall at the payment stage even after land verification is complete; correcting the bank details through Edit/Update Self Registration on the portal resolves this.
- State-level verification delay mistaken for rejection. Not every stuck application is a rejection; land verification by the state revenue department can simply take time. Checking the specific status flag (rather than assuming rejection) through the process described elsewhere on this page tells you whether it is a genuine rejection or a pending verification.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check my PM Kisan beneficiary status?
Open pmkisan.gov.in, go to Farmers Corner and select Know Your Status, enter your registration number, request the OTP sent to your registered mobile number, and submit. The status screen then shows your e-KYC, land seeding and Aadhaar-bank seeding flags along with instalment history.
Is there any fee to check PM Kisan status?
No. Checking PM-KISAN status on pmkisan.gov.in or in the PM-KISAN mobile app is completely free. A Common Service Centre may charge a small government-notified fee for an assisted check, but no agent may charge to "release" an instalment.
What if I do not know my PM Kisan registration number?
Use the Know Your Registration Number option in Farmers Corner and enter the mobile number or Aadhaar number recorded in your PM-KISAN account. The registration number is returned after OTP verification.
Why does my PM Kisan status show a red or "No" flag?
A "No" against e-KYC, land seeding or Aadhaar-bank seeding means that verification is pending, and any one of the three will stop your instalment. Complete e-KYC yourself online; land seeding and bank seeding need the revenue department and your bank respectively.
Can I check PM Kisan status by Aadhaar number?
Aadhaar can be used to retrieve your registration number, and the status check itself then runs on that registration number. The portal has moved to OTP-based verification on the registered mobile number for the status screen.
How do I see if my village is in the PM Kisan beneficiary list?
Use the Beneficiary List option in Farmers Corner and select state, district, sub-district, block and village. The portal returns the list of beneficiaries recorded for that village.
My status says approved but no money has arrived. What now?
Check the Aadhaar-bank seeding flag first, because a payment can be marked as released and still fail at the bank if the account is not Aadhaar-seeded or the account is dormant. Ask your bank branch to seed the account with Aadhaar through NPCI mapping.
Is the PM Kisan status check the same as applying for PM-KISAN?
No. Know Your Status only reports on an existing registration. New applicants must first complete New Farmer Registration in Farmers Corner or register through a Common Service Centre.
How often should I check my PM Kisan status?
Checking once each instalment cycle is enough, since PM-KISAN releases three instalments of Rs 2,000 roughly every four months. Check sooner only if neighbours in your village have received a cycle that you have not.
