PM-YASASVI: Why Applications Get Rejected and How to Fix It

Why does a PM-YASASVI application get rejected?

Most PM-YASASVI rejections are avoidable process failures, not merit failures — an application the school never verified, a certificate that does not match the form, or a bank account that is not Aadhaar-seeded. Because the whole process runs on the National Scholarship Portal, each cause has a specific screen where it goes wrong and a specific fix. This article covers each one. Institute verification not done in time

This is the single most common reason. After you submit on scholarships.gov.in, your school or institute nodal officer must verify the application on the portal. If they do not before the window closes, the application never reaches the ministry and is treated as incomplete.

• Fix: Do not stop at "Applied." Follow up in person with your school's nodal officer, confirm your application appears in their pending list, and get it verified well before the last date.

Income certificate above the ceiling or from a wrong authority

Family income must not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh a year, and the certificate must come from the competent state authority.

• Fix: Get a fresh income certificate from the correct issuing authority (typically the tehsildar/revenue authority notified by your state) showing income within Rs 2.5 lakh, and enter the figure exactly as on the certificate.

Caste certificate mismatch

PM-YASASVI is only for OBC, EBC and DNT students. If the category on your certificate does not match the category selected in the form, or the certificate is from a non-recognised authority, the application is rejected.

• Fix: Select the exact category on your valid caste certificate. General, SC and ST students are not eligible and must use their separate scholarship schemes.

Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded

Payment is by Direct Benefit Transfer, so the account must be Aadhaar-seeded. An un-seeded account fails at the payment stage even after sanction.

• Fix: Ask your bank to seed your Aadhaar to the account (NPCI mapping) and keep the account active before you apply.

Name or date-of-birth mismatch

If the name or date of birth differs across Aadhaar, marksheet and bank records, verification or payment fails.

• Fix: Make the three records consistent before applying; correct whichever document is wrong rather than entering a mismatched value to "match" the form.

Duplicate merit-based scholarship

The National Scholarship Portal allows only one merit-based central scholarship per student for the same course. Drawing another blocks PM-YASASVI.

• Fix: Choose one scheme. You cannot hold two merit-based central scholarships for the same course simultaneously.

Defective or mismatched documents

Blurred uploads, or details that do not match the uploaded certificate, get the application marked defective.

• Fix: Upload clear, legible scans in the required format, and make sure every typed field matches the document exactly.

How to find your rejection reason and correct it

1. Log in at scholarships.gov.in with your OTR number and open Check Your Status.
2. If it shows Rejected or Defective, read the reason recorded against your application ID.
3. Correct the specific item flagged.
4. If the correction window is open, resubmit and again ensure your institute verifies it. If the window has closed, apply afresh in the next cycle.
